Mike I am a member of 3 different gun ranges. While they are all different and have somewhat different philosophy, I am very fortunate in that they are all very welcoming to new members. Having said that I have among small fractions witnessed the attitude you are talking about the good ol boy thing, the "we built this club" chest pounding attitude. Yes you did build this club and it is very much appreciated by at least this member, but we will all lose if we do not welcome new members. One of the fasts growing demographics in the gun community is women. From what I can see they work hard, are very open minded, and from what I hear out of them is they VOTE. I have a wife who has stolen a rifle from me and bought her own handgun she has worked very hard to be part of the range and I feel has succeeded on most fronts. We must be careful to welcome but not smother the new members especially the ladies. As for community outreach I feel it important to ask questions and allow friends and family to come to their own conclusions in a lot of cases. What is going on in the Ukraine right now with the government handing out weapons to private citizens is a interesting phenomenon that warrants at least a discussion with family members and friends that are on the fence. Keep up the great work and keep supporting your very own ambassador to the gun community Kili.

So much truth in this video. The ignorance of those shown in that clip is the problem (note ignorance is not an insult, it just means that you lack knowledge). Education from all sides is key, without positive messages they will only hear and believe the views they hear from the legacy media and the anti gun groups who are very effective at getting their message out.

Thanks for making this video. If you really think having people that shoot your match come to the board meetings will make a difference then possibly look at dangling some carrots in front of them like 'Come to the board meeting and get a stage mulligan' or 'attend the board meeting and get half / full off next match'. Honestly though it sounds like you could get 100 people to show up and still not move the needle, you really need to get yourself and others that think like you voted onto the board - I'd make that my mission!

sad thig is we are our own echo chamber. We are dealing with a facts vs emotions discussion. People do not want to deal with the actual facts vs emotions. As you shared the whole discussion of 40,000 deaths and well over half are suicide. A significant portion is gang violence. YES! I grew up in a liberal family who only used guns for hunting purposes and didn’t understand why people would be opposed to these “common sense” gun laws. If you don’t understand the industry and the politics it DOES seem like common sense (to a total outsider). Since picking up competition shooting I’ve flipped 180 degrees just by understanding and being exposed to the industry. I’m now converted and a huge advocate for gun rights and constantly look for opportunities to invite non-gun people to the range. I’ve been saying this for years- this is how we end the debate for gun rights, we need to invite people IN, not ostracize them.

As a Brit with no second amendment and lots of control you need to take control of your sport. Establish the sport with its own gun control with lots of good reason to have the rifles you have. Your not missing anything, if you leave it to people outside the sport you will get crazy controls on there perception of the danger. I think your spot on.

Same issue with the borough I live in. People complain how things are run. In the 6 months since I became a member I've seen 3 or 4 people actually show up. This embolden those on the council to keep doing what ever they want. I used to think I could join a group like the NRA to fight for my rights. That way my membership would show my vote on the matter. It turns out it is just a money laundering organization.

Thanks so much!! Here in Québec, Canada, freedom to have a firearm without being cut, is the motivation to bring a spontaneous ,often momentary primal instinct, deep in to unknown part of mind ,for everyone,,depending the context I believe. I had guns on my head a couple times, but blades haven't disappeared.... Bringing a great open-minded in our community,going toward th troubled ones,giving the meaning ,the true one, the one that everyone is supposed to be happy in this world... The rest, depends on the rest of you. Thanks again, I really appreciate you! Alex Parent

Spot on! All I see online is "Shall not be infringed!". Uh huh. Yep, that's helping. I've been saying it for a long time that we, the 2A community, are really our own worst enemy. We obviously haven't learned how to engage in a PR campaign. Keeping our heads down and relying on the Bill of Rights isn't enough anymore. I write my reps, I vote, I have uncomfortable conversations. (To include rather unpleasant conversations at my local range with guys that don't care for "modern sporting rifles". Those can honestly be the worst conversations to have.) Those of us that compete and hunt should really try to show the positives of owning firearms and that we all aren't what the media likes to show. We also need to stop the infighting. Again, something we haven't seemed to learn from the folks that oppose firearms. They're pretty united and have great communication/PR skills. The organizations fighting for the 2A need more help than money. We have to do our part too. Let's get our house in order and let our voices be heard. (In a logical positive way) And, like Mike said, thank the corporations that we get our gear from. They really need to know that everything they do for us is appreciated. That's my main goal this PRS season (Besides being the best gas gunner I can be) is making sure on social media and via email letting them know I appreciate them and their products. W/out them and the time, money, etc that they put into R&D we wouldn't have the outstanding gear we do whether it's hunting or comp.

But thank you for making this I'll be shoving it down friends throats as nicely as possible haha and hb 5067(might be off on the exact number) but it's important to still fight the up hill battle by putting the info as easy to access as possible.

Great video! It’s the people within not willing to stand up BUT the people that don’t want to come together. Many people talk about this “community” but it’s not a community. I’m a normal guy. I’m younger, in college, I don’t have a specific skill so to many, I shouldn’t have an opinion. It’s just sad to see normal people getting shot down on social media when they as a question, show a piece of gear or firearm and then just get called names like we’re on a middle school play ground. There’s always room for having fun and joking but this is the time we need to take this stuff serious. You have all these factions like fudds and the far far right guys and everything in between. I sometimes hate going on social media because of the negativity that these so called 2A influencers or meme pages spread just because of the brand of rifle or if you have a micro chest rig or not. It’s truly sad. Just found your channel, makes me want to get into long range shooting!

The problem is people associate gun rights with political leaning. The current "gun right" party is also the party that is extremely polarized in certain views, which alienates the other side and moderates. Stop associating the pro-2A movement with a political party. Both political parties aim to take your rights away, just in different forms. People will continue to vote with emotions and not data and rationale. Both sides suck at both.

Speaking from europe where our "gun rights" were supposed to be "obvioius" and therefore not consecrated in marble. We lost every once of right to defend ourselves against tyranny but moreover against direct threats to us and our familly. Ok guns are fun and we would like to be able to keep shooting it but please, listen to me, it's more important than fun and larping. If you are not lobbying in an intelligent way and really fighting for these, you will lose EVERYTHING including the right to defend your life and that my friend is way more important that 2nd amendment.

The only part I disagree with is that they can vote to take our right away. They may be able to vote away the *protection* of our rights, but if you truly believe that your rights are "endowed by our Creator" and not given you by the government, then they cannot take that right. I understand what you were saying and don't mean to be pedantic, but I feel that that's a very important distinction to make. Other than that, I 100% agree with you.

Mike, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I sorta agree and sorta disagree. I don’t think the gun owning community has a voter turnout issue. On the contrary, I think the gun owning community will turn out and vote on that one issue to the detriment of other policies that would benefit their families. I think the larger issue is that the gun owning community is a minority of the population that does not respect the idea of majority rule. If the gun owning community wants to succeed, then we need to adopt positions that are popular instead of unpopular. For example disallowing convicted domestic abusers from gun ownership. Requiring a 4473 and more thorough background checks for all firearm transfers would be another popular measure. If the gun owning community continues to refuse to take even the most basic measures to keep firearms out of the hands of maniacs, then it will just continue to be a shrinking minority that will eventually be outnumbered so badly that we can’t even stop laws that are truly oppressive instead of a minor inconvenience.

Thanks, this needed to be said. I think part of the problem is our side has unrealistic expectations. We don't objectively look at our opposition's motives, and look for ways to address their legitimate concerns in a way that doesn't take away our rights. I don't really want this, but I think we need to consider a compromise if we get close to major loses: A one time, shall issue licenses to own anything semi-auto, in exchange for it being a national conceal carry permit, and for permanent, constitutional protection of what we have now in all 50 states. If the license had a 40 hr NRA course and federal background, I do think it would be an effective barrier to some mass shootings. Mass shootings being a tiny minority of homicides, but prevoke the most gun control. And I think it would make gun ownership like a right of passage; something that would be appreciated more when people work for it. Like getting your driver's license as a teenager. Again, not what I want. But if we don't start coming up with something, people who don't care about our rights will.
@LeadFarmer_84
@LeadFarmer_84 2 жыл бұрын
And more practically, I think there needs to be a major initiative to protect schools. Right now the government requires an armed guard at every federal office open to the public (what I do for work). That same protection should be extended to our kids. Knowing what our operation costs are, I think you could cover all public schools for roughly $30 billion. Take it out of our $700 billion defense budget, it wouldn't be a noticeable hit.
