What an incredible sermon!! My husband and I have been so incredibly blessed by Dr. James White! God brought us out of the oneness heresy and into His glorious truth as we saw debates where James White was speaking! Now, I’m just trying to learn as much as I can so I can defend the doctrine of the Trinity. God bless him, Pastor Durbin, and this church!

oneness is just another form of Trinity. It's an attempt to solve logical problems in Trinity but in so doing onenesss reates new illogical problems, such as Jesus is his own daddy.

The Oneness heresy is as bad as the Trinity heresy. The trinity is totally FALSE!!! No matter how we try to cloak it with biblical language, it will never have the strength of Scripture. The Bible is clear as to God's nature, so why do we insist on a humanly designed philosophy of God. While there is God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, God does NOT EXPRESS Himself as a Trinity. That is what makes arguing against the Trinity tricky. Those who uphold the doctrine erroneously think that questioning the Trinity means that one does not believe in the deity of Christ or of the Holy Spirit. That is absurd. Some might, but more thoughtful thinkers who are philologist in their approach believe otherwise. Is it not a bit strange that we insist on using a word that the Bible does not use? It defeats the purpose of God forbidding anyone to add to the words of the Bible. According to the Bible, the Father ALONE is God (1 Corinthians 8:6). The Son is the visible representation of the Father and is God by virtue of Him having the FULNESS of the Father in Him (Colossians 1:15, 19). there is a close connection between Father and Son. Jesus Himself testified to it: "The Father and I are one." The trinity states that the Son is NOT the Father and vice versa, when the Bible clearly states that the Father is inside the Son. Finally, the Holy Spirit is God by virtue of being the VERY Spirit of God. If the Holy Spirit IS the Spirit of God, how can He not be God? So, why does the doctrine of the Trinity declare that the Holy Spirit IS NOT the Father? How could the Spirit of the Father not be the Father? The doctrine of trinity describes us a caricature of God that is totally unrecognizable from how God describes Himself in His word. The true mystery is how God got to be existing while being in the Son and simultaneously have a Spirit that is both from the Son and Him, the Father (Romans 8:9)? This can be easily explained, because God can divide Himself and still remain Himself (Isaiah 66:9). The problem is that Isaiah 66:9 has been purposefully mistranslated. For some unknown reason, the Hebrew word "shabar" which normally means "to break into pieces" was translated in all versions "to bring forth birth." That latter translation is very doubtful since "shabar" shows up 148 times in the OT, and ONLY in this ONE instance did the translators render it "to bring forth birth." My humble opinion is that they did so, because they did not want to contradict the indivisibility of God purported by the trinity doctrine. The Trinity claims that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are co-eternal, meaning that they exist in eternity as they are. This is nonsense since the concept of fatherhood involves an originator and an offspring. Eternity does not impede that relationship. The fatherhood of God can only happen as a result of the Son originating from Him, thus God's ability to divide Himself. The divisibility of God is a BIBLICAL principle and an attribute of God. As God is able to divide Himself, he can also gather Himself back together (Job 34:14-15). This scripture proves to us that the spirit that God has put inside each one of us and inside the animals came from Him (where else would the spirit be from?). The trinity doctrine is dangerous in that it promotes a human definition of God to the expense of God's description of Himself in His word and in His own words. It is time for the deception to be over. Christians need to wake up and shake it off.

@@brucemercerblamelessshamel3104 God is one spirit being, invisible. Jesus is a man, God’s Son and servant, our brother and mediator. This is plainly documented throughout scripture. God is one being and three persons is not in the Bible. This man made doctrine started in the fourth century under Greek and Roman influence. Jesus and other New Testament writers referred to the Hebrew text to show that God’s human Messiah must suffer and die and that God would raise him back to life and exalt him to the highest position possible, his own right hand. The second person of a trinity didn’t die for your sins. The man Christ Jesus did. God raised Jesus from the dead. When God sends Jesus back he (who has been given all power and authority by God) will raise the dead and judge all people. 1 Corinthians 15:1-28 and the rest of scripture when rightly divided confirm. Jesus prayed that we might know the Father, the only true God (John 17:3). there are over 760 distinctions between nGod and Jesus in the Bible. They are not the same being and only one of them is the true God. God is one. Nowhere does it say he is three persons in one being. I think it’s time we get back to the simple truth of one God and one Lord as proclaimed by David in Psalm 110:1. God bless you

I've been studying on the trinity for a while now and can I just say that there is a genuine need for thorough comprehensive study of the fundamental Bible truths we hold. People rely so much on the Pope, pastors, prophets and others to teach them the Bible, that they are prone to putting the pastor's word above the Lord's. We need to study the Bible ourselves through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We have to allow God to speak for Himself. This is what God has opened my eyes to, now I see why sometimes Athiests and Agnostics and people of other faith think Christians are brainwashed, because we rather rely on pastors and church leaders to teach us about God other than having a relationship with God, studying His word, and questioning the doctrines that we are taught. The Lord laid it on my heart to tell you this. To tell anyone that would listen this. The doctrine of the trinity is false. I've studied the history of the trinity, tracing from Athanasius to Constantine and thanks to the Holy Spirit, I've left that belief. I believe in Jesus Christ, He is the Father incarnated. The Father, Son, and HS are not sperate "persons" but one person who has revealed Himself in more ways than one. It's important to know, especially when telling others about our faith, the truth about out beliefs. The Trinity has always been a hot topic in the church for centuries after Jesus ascended. It's nothing new. This is a brief summary of the history concerning this doctrine. But centuries ago, in the late 200s and early 300s, the leaders of the Christians church were trying to figure out what the NT books meant when they talked about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Because we have to note that the NT books were compiled around the 3 or 4 century. And this caused confusion The church leaders had no idea the relationship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. So out of confusion they began coming up with theories, marking out their positions, kicking each other out of the church, and breaking up (this is one of the things that caused the East and West schism which was the break of communion between the Catholic church and other churches) and they told everyone who didn't believe in their doctrine that they would go to hell. The topic of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit was one of, if not the biggest topic among Christian leaders in the year 325. The Roman Emperor Constantine who is sometimes seen as "the first Christian" emperor when in reality the guy was a pagan and saw religion as a way to expand and unite his empire. So Constantine along with some of the church bishops held a council in the town called Nicaea, and these bishops came up with the first version of the statement of faith that attempted to define the relationship between the Son and the Father. The statement they drafted is called the Nicene Creed which is what the vast majority of Christians and Christian churches have accepted as essential doctrine. And yet this is where the church got off track why? because although the Nicene creed does not contain the words "trinity" or "persons" (neither does the Bible by the way), what it DID say about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit set the church on a course towards the doctrine of the Trinity of persons. One or 2 centuries later, the Athanasian creed, another statement of faith which was composed and assembled by St Athanasius, greatly expanded on the Nicene creed and DID include the words "trinity" and persons. This introduced contradiction, confusion, and polytheism into the church even though no one wants to admit it. (notice how none of them, not the church fathers, not Tertullian, or even St. Athanasius called upon the Lord, like the people in the Bible did. Whenever the children of the Lord wanted to know about God they called to Him and He answered. But in this situation, no one did that. None of them claim to even be inspired by God. All of this confusion was created by men trying to figure God out without the Spirit of God. God is not the author of confusion, but we get ourselves confused when we don't consult God about anything.

@Vivienne I believed the Oneness doctrine for 29 years,and during those years I had accepted the teaching by the words of men,rather than the word of God. I left it in 2012,restudied scripture and have come to the conclusion that the doctrine of Oneness Pentecostalism is scripturally void and false. You’ve mentioned about brainwashing,and yes I was when I was a part of the movement. You can talk about history,but still you cannot deny what is so clearly evident throughout the scriptures. I thank God for men like James White who proclaim through much study of a biblical truth.

Trinitarianism is easy to refute. Noticed that most of his references are scattered in peace together through the Bible but when you look at some of these scriptures, I’m about to post you’ll notice that only one person is called God in them. 👉And this is eternal life, that they may know YOU, THE ONLY TRUE GOD, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17:3 👉yet for us there is ONE GOD, THE FATHER from whom are all things, and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him. 1 Corinthians 8:6 👉 For there is ONE GOD, and ONE MEDIATOR BETWEEN GOD and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. 1 Timothy 2:5‭-‬6 👉and ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s. 1 Corinthians 3:23 ASV 👉Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, TO MY GOD AND YOUR GOD.'" John 20:17 👉 the same came unto him by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that thou doest, except God be with him. John 3:2 ASV 👉 And Jesus advanced in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. Luke 2:52 ASV 👉 and walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of a sweet smell. Ephesians 5:2 ASV 👉 For Christ entered not into a holy place made with hands, like in pattern to the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear before the face of God for us: Hebrews 9:24 ASV 👉 “to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory for ever. Amen.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭16:27‬ ‭ASV‬‬ 👉and has made us to be a kingdom and priests TO SERVE HIS GOD AND FATHER--to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. Rev 1:6 👉Why do you call me good?" And they said, Some say John the Baptist; some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But who say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jonah: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven. Jude 1:4 ASV 👉to all that are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world. @@angbry8305 God did not create a man to die for our sins. This would make God a coward and the sacrifice on the cross would not be a true showing of God's grace. As if a husband sent his friend to die for his wife because he was to cowardly to do it when the moment called for it. The significance of the cross comes from the fact that Jesus IS God and died for His own people. God is one in ESSENCE, but 3 in person. This also shows us that God did not create us because He was lonely or had need of companionship. He had existed in 3 persons eternally and has had eternal fellowship with Himself. It shoukd humble us that God would create us, and then die (PHYSICALLY) for us. He who knew no sin became sin (suffered for us). Now we know God can't die spiritually. But God did die physically for us. He became flesh to do that, for it is the only kind of death which was possible for us to be redeemed. Because Jesus can't die spiritually, apart from Him coming to earth in physical form, no sacrifice would have been possible for our sins.

The earliest believers who introduced a Trinitarian concept was, Origin and Tertullian, who had a different understanding of the Trinitarian doctrine. They talked about subsistence of Christ to the Father and also the Latin term personae which is taken directly from the stage when an actor would change his mask out from a happy face to a sad face for example. This is what the original understanding of what person meant. We can understand this with the example of an individual imPERSONating an officer. He’s acting as an officer though he’s not. It is better to understand God to be one who manifests himself rather than to say that he is 3 persons such as you and I would understand to be today in the year 2020. Later both Origin and Tertullian were deemed Heretics as the Trinitarian doctrine developed over the course of 400 years plus. A ridiculous doctrine.

Except that despite the insistence of Trinitarians, the Trinity doctrine isn't really described anywhere in scripture "literally" or otherwise. @@DillonJan ; And in turn I must disagree there is any evidence that Trinitarian discussion extended back to the 1st century CE. As such a concept or mentality was definitely the product of a much later age. And I agree the ANF did not deny the doctrine, but because there's no evidence any were even aware of the Trinity to even have an opportunity to deny it. Though I agree that some of them, principally Tertullian, in their unwise course of mixing Christianity with pagan philosophy, help pave the way for the later formulation of the doctrine at Nicea. And regarding Matt. 3:16, 17, I see that as Christ being formally anointed with the power of the holy spirit as a sign of his Father in heaven approval. I agree that Jesus has the Nature of God (Phil. 2:5, 6) but Jesus calls the Father "the only true God..." John 17:3 And even more strikingly says He is His God - John 20:17 which agrees with Eph. 1:2, 3. It cannot be that a coeternal member of a generic Trinity has any real submissive parts - all are necessarily coequal and co-authoritative. The Bible indicates Jesus was given His life, power and name by "inheritance" from His Father. See John 5:26; Heb. 1:1-5 That is not possible in a described Trinity.

James White is brilliant and explains one of our main beliefs very clearly. We need to sharpen our views regarding the Trinity, not only for our overall philosophical blueprint, but for giving a defense when Muslims, Mormons, J.W.s, et. al. approach us. This was very helpful in explaining that most early Christians simply took the triune God as a given (and invented a word for this reality somewhat later). J.W. (surely not a Watch Tower kind of J.W.) has a folksy, down-to-earth and often humorous approach, which effectively helps deliver his ingenious messages. Excellent stuff!

When you die, its your body that ceases to function and your spirit goes to be with God in heaven or in Hell. so how can 'God die'? easy the same way the rest of us do in a bodily death NOT spiritual death. God is Spirit, God's Spirit can't die, but when God takes on a physical body and takes on physical limitations aka Christ Jesus, that bodily death does nothing to impact his spirit. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28

@@virgiliogarrett4463 The Holy Spirit most definitely IS a person - for He is referred to multiple times using the personal pronoun "he" by Jesus Himself - John 14:17; 15:26; 16:13, etc. A "force" or other entity besides an actual person cannot be grieved - which of course the Holy Spirit of God can according to Eph. 4:30. The point at hand is not IF it is a person, but WHO this person of the Holy Spirit is. We find that answer in: Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. The "He" here clearly is the Spirit of the Father, which is again referred to by the personal pronoun. And since the Father IS a person, His Spirit - the Holy Spirit - is also. Additionally, in vs. 9 we find the Holy Spirit is also the person of Christ as well. It is their very own Divine presence. If you simply read the Bible language regarding the actions and references of the Holy Spirit, Spirit of God, Spirit of Christ - you cannot come to another conclusion unless you want to discount the plain meaning of the verses.

I'd say whites argument that a trinitarian nature of God isn't spelled out in scripture is because they all knew who God was. The epistles are going out to gentiles who do not know God, and a trinity is foreign to Judaism. They absolutely would have clearly taught a trinity if it was true. It is the spirit of the Father given through the son, so that we share in one spirit.

I became Christian in 1976 when I was 18. I didn't grow up in a religious family. We were very secular, so I didn't have any preconceived doctrines. I knew there was supposed to be a trinity, but when I read the Bible, I couldn't see it in the scriptures. So I'm not trinitarian. I asked God to reveal it to me in the scriptures. And what He revealed to me is that He is the Holy Spirit. So the Father and the Son are both the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit is their being. And there is only one Holy Spirit. Yes, wherever the Father and the Word are, there will also be the Holy Spirit, because they are the Holy Spirit. But the Holy Spirit is not a third person. Before He became the Son of man, Jesus did exist with the one we call the Father. John 1 says He was with God in the beginning and He was God. They were both YHVH. Our minds always try to diagram or picture things. This is how my mind pictures it. Draw a circle. That circle is the Holy Spirit. Now write Father and Son inside that circle. You can't draw an infinite circle, but the circle is infinite. That is how I visualize it now. But when I think of it before Jesus came as the Son of man, I think of the same circle with YHVH written inside. But it is the exact same thing, except He hadn't taken on the flesh yet. But within YHVH there are still the two personifications. The Holy Spirit is the whole of YHVH, it is His being. So when the Holy Spirit comes to us, it is the Father and the Son coming to us in their Spirit. Lu @ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Ro @ The Spirit ITSELF beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Ro @ ¶ Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit ITSELF maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 2Co @ Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; 22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the EARNEST of the Spirit in our hearts. An earnest is a down payment. 2Co 5:5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the EARNEST of the Spirit. Php @ For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, Jesus said He and the Father are One. He also said, "I am in the Father and the Father is in me." The reason He could say that is because they are both the Holy Spirit. God is no different than He always was. He simply put on flesh for a very short time, for a very specific purpose. 1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. That is why Jesus "became" the son of man; so he could be our mediator. Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. He also needed to become man in order to die in our stead. Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. But He is now at the right hand of the Father in the same state He existed in before he became a man. Joh 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. Heb 7:15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

@@vlatkosurlan545 The Meaning of One 1Co 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is ONE Spirit. The Spirit is God's essence. Spirit is what God is, and the Spirit He is is the Holy Spirit. Joh 17:24 ¶ Father, I WILL THAT THEY ALSO, WHOM THOU HAS GIVEN ME, BE WITH ME WHERE I AM; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for THOU LOVEDST ME BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD. 25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. 26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I IN THEM. Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another COMFORTER, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for HE DWELLETH WITH YOU, AND SHALL BE IN YOU. 18 ¶ I will not leave you comfortless: I WILL COME TO YOU. Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and WE WILL COME UNTO HIM, AND MAKE OUR ABODE WITH HIM. Jesus comes to us in the Holy Spirit. The Spirit doesn't leave them, it emanates from them. That is how God is omnipresent. His Spirit permeates every place in heaven and earth. In the book of Revelation, in the last two chapters, where it talks about the new heaven and the new earth, we find no mention of the Holy Spirit. But the Holy Spirit is there, in the Father and the Son. What we do see is a river of life flowing out of the throne. Re 22:1 ¶ And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. Joh 7:37 ¶ In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) Joh 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Trinity isn’t a good explanation of theFather, Son and Holy Spirit. Look at these references to the Holy Spirit. These are from the kjv. Holy Spirit, Holy Ghost, the Spirit, Spirit of God, Spirit of Jesus Christ, Spirit of the Lord , Spirit of Christ, Spirit of the living God, Spirit of our God, Spirit of your Father, holy Spirit of God, Spirit which is of God, Spirit of His Son, his Holy Spirit, My Spirit, His Spirit, the Lord is that Spirit, Spirit of grace, holy Spirit of promise, Spirit of adoption, Spirit of life in Christ, Spirit of life from God, the Spirit itself. The way the Spirit is described in the scripture as being "of God" and "of His Son" and being "His Spirit", it doesn't sound like a third person. I don't think the Spirit is a third person. I think it is what God is. Just as you and I are human beings, the Father and Son are Holy Spirit. Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Spirit is what God is, and the Spirit He is is the Holy Spirit.

Right. God is One Holy Spirit, who Speaks from Heaven, comes Down as a Dove, and is the Spirit of Jesus Christ, all simultaneously. His full Name is “Yehovah Yehoshuah Hamashiach” (The Lord Jesus Christ) If you want to get the Truth of God and Revelation of Jesus Christ, Read Zechariah 4:10 (7 eyes of Yehovah) Ezekiel 1 (Vision of Yehovah) Daniel 7 (Vision of Ancient of Day) Revelation 1 and Revelation 4 (Vision of God and Jesus Christ) and Revelation 5:6 (Lamb with 7 eyes and 7 horns, the 7-fold Spirit of God.) Jesus said “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father. I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me. I and the Father are One.” And Paul says “The fullness of the God Head was pleased to dwell in Him (Jesus) bodily”. And elsewhere it is written “God was IN Jesus Christ, reconciling the world to Himself.” And Thomas realized Jesus is the Lord God and bowed to worship Him saying “My Lord and My God!” And God/Jesus did not rebuke Him but said “You believe because you have seen. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet Believe.” “Trinity” is not a word God uses to describe Himself. “Trinity” is a word Theologians use to try and describe God. Some get so dogmatic about their own word “Trinity” that they will condemn anyone who doesn’t use it, even though God Himself never does either.

And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:5-11‬ ‭

This is actually a really good passage which shows Jesus' relationship to the Father. The word for "form" means NATURE. So substituting that word we can see Jesus was GIVEN the Nature of God - His Father. We can also see this from Hebrews 1: Heb 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Heb 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. WHO appointed Jesus? His Father. Whose "brightness" and "glory" did He have? That of His Father. Whose "express image" was He "made" in? His Father's. He "inherited" it - it wasn't His without being given it through His relationship to His Father. Needless to say......This does NOT describe a Trinity Friend!

Michael Morell it doesn’t say he was given the nature of God nowhere does it say that. It says he was in the form of God. And this is before emptying himself and taking on the form of a servant. Being born in the likeness of men. Hebrews 1 doesn’t say he was given the nature of God....nowhere. Exegesis please try to stay in 1 passage have some respect for the word. Now we are in Philippians and Hebrews to exegete Philippians.

@@Judy-cy2fv I'm sorry but no self-respecting Protestant Christian will be satisfied holding the foremost Fundamental Doctrine of the Godhead - WHO God is - as a mere "concept" introduced in the Scripture. Dr Smith was actually quite accurate in initially stating that the Trinity doctrine is found in the "gutter" between the OT and NT - NOT FOUND! That doesn't cut it, when all other doctrines are plainly spelled out in clear language. As I have said, there is NOWHERE in Scripture that a Trinity, represented as 3 persons forming 1 God, is actually stated. N O W H E R E! Let that sink in......That should be a non-starter for anyone who is looking to shape their beliefs in accordance with Sola Scriptura. In addition, the History of the Trinity's introduction into church doctrine is without a doubt post-apostolic and highly questionable. It appears to have been introduced as a "concept" by Tertullian in the 2nd century. However, although he coined the term Trinity, even he stated that the Son was not co-eternal with the Father and did have a beginning as the begotten Son of God. Later as the "concept" developed in church Tradition (writings) it took on the form you find today in the 3rd and 4th centuries. At this point it actually became a very divisive issue in the church, with many Christians refusing to subscribe to it as unscriptural - and being terribly persecuted for their faithfulness to the Word! All this does NOT lend any confidence to your "concept" as a worthy Christian teaching. That being said, I see those texts and fully agree with you that the Bible represents Jesus as fully Divine in his pre-existent life in Heaven - and throughout His life. However, that Truth does nothing to fortify the Trinity's support. The question is, HOW and WHY is Christ Divine? We are told clearly Christ was "given" the name of God in John 1:1, but a mature Christian will want to know HOW - if it is revealed? And it is! The Bible actually tells us the HOW: Heb 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom HE HATH APPOINTED HEIR OF ALL THINGS, by whom also he made the worlds; Heb 1:3 Who being THE BRIGHTNESS OF HIS GLORY, and THE EXPRESS IMAGE OF HIS PERSON, and upholding all things BY THE WORD OF HIS POWER, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Heb 1:4 BEING MADE so much better than the angels, as he hath BY INHERITANCE obtained a more excellent NAME than they. Heb 1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art MY SON, this day have I BEGOTTEN thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be TO ME A SON? Heb 1:6 And again, when he bringeth in THE FIRSTBEGOTTEN into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. Heb 1:7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. Heb 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O GOD, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Heb 1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, EVEN THY GOD, HATH ANOINTED THEE with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. This passage without a doubt greatly informs our knowledge of HOW Christ is Divine. It introduces God (as does the rest of Scripture) as being the Father of Christ - foremost (this concept, by itself, excludes the Trinity). Then in v. 2 it tells us that He "appointed" His Son Jesus as "heir of ALL things." EVERYTHING Jesus has as the Divine Son was given Him or "appointed" to Him by the power and authority of His Father. Again, this immediately destroys the Trinity concept of a "coeternal" "coequal" relationship between the Father and Son. Next in verse 3 we are told that Christ doesn't independently have His own Glory - His glory COMES FROM the Father - whose Glory it actually is. After this Christ is spoken of as a carbon copy of His Father - which lends itself to the idea that He actually IS "begotten" Son of God. This is the strict Bible teaching. And again, How does Christ uphold "all things?" "By the Word of His (God's) power!" Again, Jesus is NOT the source, the source is the Father. Verse 4 is HUGE - it tells us that Jesus was "made so much better than the angels." The word "made" is GINOMAI, which means "to come into being." When it is spoken of as in relationship to the creation of Angels we must see it not in the sense of the Incarnation in Bethlehem, but in the ultimate sense of prior to all Creation. We were told in v. 1 that God Created the worlds, or the Universe, through Jesus - so Christ Himself is NOT a part of Creation. However, we are clearly told Jesus "came into being" here. He is NOT "coeternal" with God the Father. It is clear from the language that He DID have a Beginning as the begotten "Son of the Most High God." Next, this Truth is further verified by the words "he (God) bringeth in THE FIRSTBEGOTTEN into the world." Just as John 3:16, 17 says God "gave" and "sent" His "only begotten Son" "into the world." He MUST have been a "begotten" Son in His pre-existence then - one who "came into being" from His Father. In verses 8 and 9 Jesus is again, as in John 1:1 called God. But now we can see WHY! Because He is in "the express image" of God's person! Verse 4 says he "inherited" that name by having "been made" so much better than the Angels! This is the information we are lacking in John 1 where it does say Jesus was "with God." But in John 1 we are not told as here that Jesus has a God Himself! Verse 9 tells us that though Jesus has the name and authority of God, that the Father is HIS God - and NOT the other way round! By the way, Hebrews 1 is NOT the only passage that explains the bestowed Deity of Christ. There are certainly others I could and will share if you like. Again - this blows the Trinity doctrine out of the water! All these plain teachings are completely incompatible with a Trinity. Still, I highly doubt you or the highly esteemed Dr White will accept them as written. You all will undoubtedly put your own "spin" and alternate interpretation on these verses so you can feel good about clutching onto an Apostate teaching of Catholicism. I just think that is very sad! Especially since Christ's Sonship is the Cornerstone of the biblical Gospel, and the obvious reason He is Divine.

@@Judy-cy2fv Just FYI, I am NOT a Unitarian and have nothing to do with their specific Theology other than I disbelieve a Trinity. You speak as if the Trinity is "proven." Please if you want to keep saying this - show me WHERE in the Bible the Trinity is so "proven!" It is not, and therefore you absolutely can't. As I said - and even Dr White above affirms - the Trinity is not found except in the "gutter" (blank space) of the Bible! Quite an admission by your highly regarded authority!! I showed you where the Bible says Jesus was "made (ginomai=came into being) so much better than the angels." If He was a "coeternal" "coequal" member of the Trinity this would be a ridiculous statement. No coeternal member of the Godhead could possibly "come into being better than the angels." You friend, need to begin accepting the authority and essential meaning of the Word of God for yourself. Matthew 28:19 is a "go to" "proof text" which proves nothing regarding a supposed Trinity. Please - I beg you - show me how this passage "proves" a Trinity! How? It simply says: Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: What does this have to do with proving 3 persons form 1 God? I see no such definition or even suggestion here. You yourselves have to do MUCH better than that to establish such a Trinity "proof." Similarly, Mark 14:61-63 simply establishes that Jesus claimed to be the Son of God. I agree, but where do you find a defined Trinity here?? Again, NOWHERE. Try harder Friend - be reconciled to the Word.

The Angels are ministering Spirits ; which minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation . Finally , you must stop thinking so much in the physical , but in the spiritual ; there is no clash of a power struggle in heaven , as the types we have on earth ( John 17:17,20-23 , " Sancify them through thy truth : thy word is truth . Neither pray I for these alone , but for them also which shall believe on me through their word ; That they may be one : as thou , Father , art in me , and I in thee , that they also may be one in us : that the world may believe that thou hast sent me . And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them ; that they may be one ,even as we are one : I in them , and thou in me , that they may be made perfect in one ; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me , and hast loved them , as thou hast loved me " ) . @@mitchellc4 My apologies. You must be Unitarian. This is my take on the situation as I used to believe as you did. All the verses that you had quoted where there is a distinction between the father and Jesus I agree with. I have no qualms with those verses. I noticed that in your response to someone else in this thread that you had mentioned in Jesus did not claim to be God. And I don’t have any qualm about that. I don’t see Jesus as an individual who went around saying look at me I’m god, I am God I am god. He didn’t have to do that. He wanted to elicit a response from his hearers as to who he was. He wanted them to come to the conclusion of who he was. This is the height of humility which was something that had to be fulfilled in him in order for him to fulfill the righteous demands of the law as a human. I myself am not a Trinitarian. And I do not agree with the Trinitarian doctrine of three persons. Many of your arguments that you use to prove Trinitarians wrong I will also use. But I’ve come to the conclusion that Jesus, though he did not claim to be God literally within the Scriptures, that he claim to be the father himself in John chapter 14. I am a modalist. I believe in one God the father who has manifested Himself in the flesh and that the Holy Spirit is the spirit of the father. And let the Son of God would have to go through the crucible of this life and fulfill the law that each and everyone of us were expected to do but failed. This would qualify him as our kinsman redeemer. Our true human representative here on earth and in heaven in the future. He was the personification of the father himself. He became flesh and tabernacled amongst us. This is in reference to the old testament tent of meeting with Moses met God who was tabernacled in the skins of animals in this tent. But God became flesh and tented himself with human flesh and we be held his glory glory as of the only begotten God... The area where we stumble, is from our point of reference. We here on earth look upon a man who lived in our midst and we wrote about him, the apostles and I witnesses, about this one Who was a man and yet the creator of the universe not as a man but as the father himself revealed in the flesh. He had to live his life just as we have lived ours by being born of a woman and growing up as a tender shoot, growing in knowledge and understanding and being baptized in order to fulfill righteousness and the righteous demands of the law. Even God himself had to submit to the very laws that were imposed upon his creation, us humans. Therefore our stumbling block is the fact that we see are human representative fulfilling the righteous demands of the law by bowing down and worshiping the father who was in heaven ontologically spreading beyond the universe. All the fullness of the Godhead Dwelt in him bodily. Not quantitatively as of thought all of the father was inside of the body but qualitatively that all of the qualities in the nature of God himself dwelt within the body of Christ. Are used to believe as you almost 40 years ago, then I embraced the Trinitarian doctrine to later on find out in my latter years that what I had embraced for 35 years was not true. But I absolutely believe that Jesus is the creator of the heavens and the earth as The father of all of us. What’s interesting is that I was listening to a debate between a Unitarian and trinitarian. Trinitarian started laughing at the Unitarian when he had quoted Isaiah 9:6 and sad to the Unitarian you just don’t believe that he’s the mighty God. At that point the Unitarian had quoted the same verse and came back at the trinitarian and said, “you don’t believe that Jesus is the father.“ And they both started laughing. The irony of the whole thing is that me as a modalist can accept both of those names within Isaiah 9:6. I believe that he is the father and I believe that he is mighty God.

Mitchell C, the arguments you have proposed for Unitarianism were refuted all the way back during the time of the Arian controversy. Either you haven’t done your homework or you are intentionally trying to deceive others. Calling the Father the one true God does not preclude the Son from being God (in fact the Son is in many places said to be one with the Father, e.g. John 10:30 & 14:9., and the true God, John 14:6-7 & 1John 5:20). This is like the Unitarians who shoot themselves in the foot by saying 1 Cor. 8:6 proves that only the father is God. If you’re going to say that then you have to say that only Jesus is Lord and God is not (thus denying the whole testimony of Scripture). It’s also significant that the very verse you quoted (John 17:3) highlights that Eternal life is knowing the Father AND the Son! The fact that Jesus inaugurated and will consummate the Kingdom of God on earth says more about Him than any Unitarian can. He is Emmanuel.

I almost forgot to address what you said about Jesus dying (again an objection dealt with early early on in Christendom). Jesus was the God-man. Being in very Nature God (Hebrews 1:3) He took flesh upon Himself (John 1:14, Phil 2:7). His human nature died and was resurrected but He in His deity did not die (in fact he took His human life, back up again, John 10:17-18).

Let no one lead you astray.-2 Thess. 2:3. Satan blurs people’s view of Jehovah. After the death of Jesus’ apostles, some who claimed to be Christians began to spread false teachings. (Acts 20:29, 30) These apostates started to blur the identity of the only true God. For example, they stopped using the divine name in their copies of the Bible and preferred such expressions as “Lord.” By removing God’s personal name and replacing it with “Lord,” they made it difficult for a Bible reader to see how Jehovah is different from the other “lords” mentioned in the Scriptures. (1 Cor. 8:5) They used the same term, “Lord,” for Jehovah and for Jesus, making it difficult to understand that Jehovah and his Son are different individuals with distinct positions. (John 17:3) This confusion contributed to the development of the doctrine of the Trinity-a doctrine not taught in God’s Word. As a result, many see God as mysterious and believe that we cannot know him. What a lie!

This is excellent teaching. Reminds me so much of my first couple of years as a Christian trying to understand the Trinity, but, to my frustration, all I encountered were endless proof text battles over where Jesus may or may not have been called God, and unwitting modalists using heretical analogies to try and explain it. Thankfully I was led to teaching similar to that outlined by Dr White; what does it mean to call Jesus Lord, and an understanding of the difference between person and being.

After much wrestling, and insufficient answers from Christian friends I had become a convinced non trinitarian (with perhaps just a couple of nagging doubts in the basement). And was attending the non-subscribing Presbyterian church, which is largely unitarian. Then I started reading the writings of the early Church, and discovered the deity of Christ was assumed and affirmed. And then the "Cappadocian fathers" and the ancient creeds and eastern Church on the Trinity. That may get me labelled a heretic, but I'm certainly not advocating for EO (I'm reformed presbyterian). However I do find the "eastern" definition readily understandable and faithful to the language of scripture. The eastern view has drawn criticism as leaning tending towards tritheism and subordinationism and the western view as tending towards modalism and mystery. DJ NJ yes indeed, Jesus did worship God. But you have to understand that there was not a man who could live up to the law to fulfill the righteous requirements of the law for salvation. In the old testament it says that God looked too and fro for just one man but could not find one. Just one righteous man in order to represent mankind as the second Adam. But what you fail to understand is that God closed himself with flesh and became a man on our behalf while at the same time holding the universe together. And in his personal nature of Christ, since he was the personification of the father himself, he was also required to live the law perfectly. This requirement stems from the smallest of laws to the greatest of laws. And one of them in order to be righteous in order to fulfill all righteousness as he said to John the Baptist, was to worship God as was required by every human. Get it right. Put your brain back into your head and think about what you are saying. That unless you believe that I am here you shall perish in your sins. I say this in love because I used to believe exactly like you did. Are used to fight against Christians all the time about this subject matter. There’s too much within scripture that shows that Jesus is our God and Savior. Was he the son of god?yes. was he the son of man? yes. but he was also God with us. I just happen to believe a little bit differently than the Trinitarian‘s on this. I do not believe in three persons but rather three relationships with man. These being manifestations to us. John 4:24 Jesus said, "God is a Spirit..." The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are not persons, they are titles of God, Matthew 28:19, These three titles has a name (the Father, Son, Spirit has a name that every body have to baptised in, which was fulfill in Acts 2:38). These three titles are not names. Name (no s) in Matthew 28:19 to be baptised in is in Acts 2:38. Jesus commanded us to baptise in the name of these three titles. It has nothing to do with the Trinity at all. In Acts, all of the Apostle never ones baptise in the name of the title Father, Son and Holy Ghost but instead they baptised in the name of Jesus Christ only. The name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is Jesus Christ in Acts 2:38. Dr. James R. White has no clue what's he talking about.

The only way you can believe in the trinity is to assume it before you read scripture. This is something that I thought of, and was curious to get some other perspectives on. I agree with James that the Trinity is fully supported by the Bible, but I had also been thinking about this from another angle. We know based on Scripture that because God is triune, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit exist in fellowship with one another. To put it succinctly, they have a relationship. As we are created in God's image, we also have the capacity to form relationships with people and with God. Now, obviously our relationships are not the same as the Trinity, especially considering that while God is one being and three persons, we are only one being and one person. But I have a question then for any other religion and for those who would claim that God is only one being and one person. How do you explain relationships? For example, how could a unitarian god, like Allah, create relational persons? If God is only one person from all eternity, then how would he know what it's like to be in relationship with another person? How would he be able to create another person with whom he would then be able to communicate and have a relationship? If God is unitarian, then he would not be a relational person, which means that he would have had to change when he created another person, because now he would've had to account for this other person. From my understanding, there are only two ways that you can account for the fact that we are able to have relationships with one another: 1) There are many gods that have existed for all eternity and are somehow able to relate to one another, or 2) the Triune God of Scripture. A unitarian god would not be able to create other persons and relate to them, because he/she/it would have no concept of what a relationship is. We can obviously reject the first option, as Scripture very clearly teaches that there is only one God, Yahweh. Now, you might be able to argue for Allah or something in the sense that he could change, but Scripture also clearly teaches that God is immutable (unchanging). So it would not be possible for him to change his nature when creating another person to now be relational. Plus, if to start you have no concept of relationships, then why would you create another person at all? What reason would you have? You can't do it out of a desire to be in relationship, because again, you wouldn't have any concept of what that is Thoughts anyone?

This is a type of argument from love. God must have made the universe out of love within his Godhead. If God was unitarian, he would only love his one person (selfishness). But, being three in person, he can love WITHIN himself, and create he universe OUT of that self-contained love. God is fully loving within himself, a unitarian god must make the universe so he can love. The true God IS love, a unitarian one only loves.

We have to go by what Scripture says, not what it doesn't say. The Trinity doctrine is an argument based off the absence of Scripture - for there is NO Scripture which says God (whatever you call Him) is made up of 3 persons. If you want to use other arguments (relationship) you first have to answer WHY this is true.
@corbinyoung925
@corbinyoung925 4 жыл бұрын
@@mdmorell I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the Trinity being based on the absence of Scripture. It is true that the Bible does not use that specific terminology, nor does it explicitly say that God is one being and 3 persons. However, given the testament of all Scripture, the Trinity can be inferred. First, the Bible makes it very clear that there is one God. I don't think any Christian disputes that. "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!" - Deut. 6:4 Second, the Bible recognizes 3 different persons as God: The Father - Matt. 6:26-32, John 17:3, 1 Cor. 8:6, 1 Pet. 1:3 The Son - John 20:28, Acts 20:28, John 1:1, 14 The Spirit - Acts 5:3-4, 1 Cor. 3:16, 6:19, 2 Cor. 3:17-18 Thirdly, the Bible clearly distinguishes between these persons The Son is not the Father - John 1:1-2, 17:24, 1 John 2:1 The Father is not the Spirit - John 14:26, Rom. 8:26 The Son is not the Spirit - John 15:26 They are also distinguished in the Great Commission: "And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all the I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20 So, 1 God, 3 person recognized as God, who are also distinguished from one another. The only logical conclusion, then, is that God is triune. There are 3 persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) that exist in one being (Yahweh). The Trinity is not 3 gods, because that would go against the first premise of one God. The Father, Son, and HS are not different modes of God, as they are distinguished as being in relationship with one another. So, for example, the analogy of water existing in three modes (solid, liquid, gas) would not be true. They are not only part of God, like the Son is 1/3, the Father is 1/3, and the HS is 1/3. They are each fully God. The analogy people give of 1+1+1=1 is not the case. The only context in which that is true is boolean algebra, which is not the context we're in. The analogy that I was given would be 1x1x1=1. As for your comment about my relationships argument, I'm not sure what you mean by I must answer why it's true. It's a logical argument, saying that if you have no concept of what a relationship is, and you're the only thing that exists, then the desire to create other beings to be in relationship doesn't make any sense, because it begs the question that you know what a relationship is. You can't desire to have something if you have no concept of it.

@@corbinyoung925 "However, given the testament of all Scripture, the Trinity can be inferred." Hogwash...As Christian believers we are never to "infer" anything. Mark 7:13, Acts 17:11, 2 Tim. 3:16 There is no other genuine Christian doctrine which has to be "inferred" and which cannot be directly taught from the Word. But you are being honest in that you simply can't do that with the Trinity. As Protestants we are to go by Sola Scriptura - unless you believe in going also by the vain Tradition of man, in which case you are proven to be a Catholic. Your equations are simply untrue from a Biblical standpoint: God the Father IS the Spirit: Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Mat 10:20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. Joh 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: Luk 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. Jesus Christ IS ALSO the Spirit: John 14:23... Romans 8:9-11... Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 2Co 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2Co 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. Eph 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. 1Co 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 1Co 15:47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. Mar 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. There are MAY more available than these, just as plain - needing no inference. But just using the above it should be clear that we can make a very strong case in saying the Comforter IS both the Father and the Son - it is THEIR Divine Spirit - by which they are one, and we are one in them. 2Th 2:16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 2Th 2:17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work. 1Jn 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

@@mdmorell I admit that "inferred" may not have been the best term to use. However, I do not at all accept the argument I was only speaking about a man-made tradition. I firmly agree with Sola Scriptura, and that any idea or understanding we have should be based in Scripture. Thus, this is exactly what I did. I did not provide arguments from other men who teach the Trinity. I only gave references to Scripture and what they teach. My point was made using logic grounded in Scripture. Most basic format of a logical argument: Premises -> Conclusion An argument is invalid if the premises do not always lead to the conclusion, and it is not sound if any of the premises are false. Premise 1: There is only one God (based on the Scriptures I provided) Premise 2: There are 3 persons recognized as God - Father, Son, Holy Spirit (based on the Scriptures I provided) Premise 3: These 3 persons are distinguished from one another - Father != Son, Son != HS, Father != HS (based on the Scriptures I provided) Conclusion: God exists as one being (Yahweh) with 3 persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). To deny this, you must do one of two things: 1) Provide a conclusion, based on the premises, other than the one I have provided 2) Use Scripture to prove that one of my premises is false It seems you've chosen the second option and claim that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are not only the same being, but the same person. So I'm assuming you agree with my first two premises, but disagree with the 3rd? First, I would point to the Scriptures that I presented and ask you to explain why they do not teach what I claim they teach. Second, I will do the same and try to show that the Scriptures you have provided do not teach that the Father, Son, and Spirit are the same person: John 4:19-24 (Jesus is talking to the Samaritan woman) - "The woman said to Him, 'Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.' Jesus said to her, 'Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.'" When Jesus is talking about worshiping in spirit, He is not saying that we are worshiping the Father who is the Spirit. He's saying that we must worship in spirit. His whole point is that you don't have to be in a specific location because worship is spiritual, and thus we worship in spirit. We actually use this terminology in common day. We'll tell someone who we can't physically be around that we're with them in spirit. I think the point Jesus is making about worship is the same. We aren't physically before God, or in Jerusalem, but that's okay, because the location is not what's important. The worship is. As for verse 24, it does not say the the Father is the Spirit. It says, "God is spirit." In the KJV, "God is a Spirit", referring to the Holy Spirit. It's saying that God is the Holy Spirit. Law of Identity: a=a, a=a. The Holy Spirit is God, God is the Holy Spirit. Same thing. This not saying the Father (person) is the Spirit (person). It's saying that God (being) is the Spirit (person). Matthew 10:19-20 (Jesus is sending his disciples out to preach) - "But when they (men) hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given in that hour what you are to say. For it is not you who speaks, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you." I think we can agree that the Spirit here refers to the Holy Spirit, as you are using this text as a point that the Father and Holy Spirit are the same person. Honestly, my understanding of this text is that it is actually differentiating between them. The text says that "the Spirit" is the one who speaks in you, not the Father. The Spirit is of the Father, but that is describing the Spirit, not equating the two persons. John 15:26-27 (Jesus talking to His disciples) - "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me, and you will testify also, because you have been with Me from the beginning." So, this is one of the texts that I actually used above to show that the Son is not the Spirit. Actually, this is a fantastic verse that distinguishes between all 3 persons in one verse, just like Matthew 28:18-20. Jesus is sending the Helper (Spirit), so it distinguishes the Son from the Spirit. The Spirit proceeds from the Father, so it distinguishes the Father from the Spirit. "He" refers to the Helper (the Spirit). So the Spirit is sent by Jesus, He is sent from the Father, and He testifies about Jesus. This makes absolutely no sense if the Father, Son, and Spirit are the same person. Luke 11:13 (Jesus teaching the disciples) - "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?" The Father is giving people the Holy Spirit. Again, I think this passage is actually distinguishing them, not equating the persons. John 14:23 (Jesus talking with His disciples at the Passover) - "Jesus answered and said to him, 'If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.'" I'm not sure how you think this equates the Father and the Spirit as the Spirit isn't even mentioned here, but besides that, Jesus uses plural language here. He says "We" and "Our." Are you trying to say that Jesus is not God, and then when he uses the plural terms he's talking about God and Jesus (separate beings) doing those actions? If you are, then you are still distinguishing between the Father and Jesus as separate persons. You'd just be going further and saying that they're also separate beings, that Jesus is not God. I would point you back to the Scriptures I referenced in my second premise about the Son (Jesus) being God. Romans 8:9-11 (Paul describing the reality for the believer) - "However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you." The Spirit of God dwells in us. This would be the Holy Spirit. Second part, if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him (Christ). So the Holy Spirit is referred to as both the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ. That would mean that Christ (Jesus) is God. "If the Spirit of Him who raised Christ Jesus from the dead..." Well now we're talking about the Spirit of the One who raised Christ from the dead, not Christ. "He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortals bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you." The "who" there implies a person, meaning that the Spirit of the One who raised Christ from the dead and gives life to our mortal bodies is a person. I understand how this passage can be a bit confusing, but if the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ, Christ, the One who raised Christ from the dead, and the Spirit who dwells in you are all the same person, then we've got a contradiction on our hands. Because now the Bible would be saying both that the Spirit is a part of a person, and its own person. Those cannot both be true. Also, if the Spirit is Christ, then this passage contradicts John 15:26-27, where Jesus said that He will send the Spirit from the Father. Galatians 4:5-6 (Paul describing what Christ did for believers) - "...so that He (Jesus) might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoptions as sons. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" So, first off, we can clearly see that the Spirit here is distinguished from the Father, as the Spirit is in our hearts crying "Abba! Father!". He's not crying out to Himself, so the Father is not the Spirit. Again, if the Spirit is the Son (Jesus), then this passage is contradicting John 15:26-27. Paul said that God sent the Spirit of His Son, but Jesus said that He will send the Helper (the Spirit) from the Father. They can't all be one person, because you can't send yourself from yourself. And if you equate any two of them then you end up with a contradiction.

Would like to see Pastor White's explanation for why every single person in the books of Acts was Baptized in the Name of Jesus. In light of Matthew 28:19's emphasis on "Name" singular. Either the Apostles were disobedient to what Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 or they knew something more clearly as to what Jesus meant. Not one person in Acts was Baptized in the father, son and holy spirit. They all were Baptized in the Name of Jesus. Why is that?

It seems to me that Churches that teach the Trinity seem to be relatively balanced overall. But the Bible itself doesn't seem to put the same emphasis on the Trinity. Often Paul opens his epistles with reference to God and Jesus only. He doesn't seem to have the need to always include the Spirit.

Does not wisdom call? Does not understanding raise her voice? Proverbs 8:1 Clearly Jesus is not the subject of Proverbs 8 and includes verse 30 that you quoted. Wisdom, who is presented like a woman, is the subject. It's teaching through story telling. God's wisdom has been with Him since the beginning. If we seek after her, we will find favor with Yahweh (verse 35).
@pkelly3463

@@hoosierliberty Clearly wisdom is used in a figurative way. It is true that in Hebrew, which assigns gender to its nouns (as do many other languages), the word for “wisdom” is always in the feminine gender. This would continue to be the case even though wisdom is personified and so would not rule out wisdom’s being used figuratively to represent God’s firstborn Son. The Greek word for “love” in the expression “God is love” (1Jo 4:8) is also in the feminine gender but that does not make God feminine. Solomon, the principal writer of Proverbs (Pr 1:1), applied the title qo·heʹleth (congregator) to himself (Ec 1:1) and this word is also in the feminine gender. Wisdom is manifest only by being expressed in some way. God’s own wisdom was expressed in creation (Pr 3:19, 20) but through his Son. (Compare 1Co 8:6.) So, too, God’s wise purpose involving mankind is made manifest through, and summed up in, his Son, Jesus Christ. Thus, the apostle could say that Christ represents “the power of God and the wisdom of God” and that Christ Jesus “has become to us wisdom from God, also righteousness and sanctification and release by ransom.”-1Co 1:24, 30; compare 1Co 2:7, 8; Pr 8:1, 10, 18-

@@hoosierliberty Clearly, the Scriptures, personifying him in his prehuman existence as wisdom, represent him as saying: “Then I came to be beside [Jehovah] as a master worker, and I came to be the one he was specially fond of day by day, I being glad before him all the time, being glad at the productive land of his earth, and the things I was fond of were with the sons of men.”-Pr 8:30, 31. In verse 22, wisdom says: “Jehovah himself produced me as the beginning of his way, the earliest of his achievements of long ago.” More than just wisdom must be involved here, for that quality never was “produced.” It never began to exist because Jehovah has always existed and he has always been wise. (Psalm 90:2) God’s Son, however, was “the firstborn of all creation.” He was produced, or created; he was the earliest of all of Jehovah’s achievements. (Colossians 1:15) The Son existed before the earth and the heavens, as described in Proverbs. And as the Word, God’s own Spokesman, he was the perfect expression of Jehovah’s wisdom.-John 1:1.

@@hoosierliberty Additionally, we find the Holy Spirit left out in these very descriptive passages. There are tons of scriptures that give insight to the personalities of Holy Father Yahweh/Jehovah and his subordinate Son Jesus. Indicating they are individual. Yet these descriptive words seem to be missing when describing the Holy spirit. That 3rd component is missing. Consequently, there is no triune God (all three co equal). It is a total and complete falsehood taught by men.

@DiscipleOfTheWay Your logic then is that hindsight is the proper mechanism for righteous evangelism? So if I go in front of a public forum and spoke about my Qwath codex proving the absence of infinity and that all people must adhere to the teachings of Kalooni Badaum otherwise they will be enslaved by the Nth dimensional limbo, we could say that my evangelism is appropriate as it will lead to prophecy, right? Its ok, after all some guy a thousand years from now will appreciate what I'm saying. You can't use historical context that fits a specific narrative you follow and question the veracity or quality of life were this and this to have not happened. Especially when faced with the very basic tenet of human freedom and free will (Or the illusion of). If I tell you not to force your beliefs on me, your reasoning then becomes, "Well it's because of my beliefs that I do get to do that." No. You can fuck right off with that. Btw, don't assume by the context of my commentary you have an inkling of what I believe. I wouldn't share it with you unless you asked.

I had a very heated discussion with someone on this very subject from the Old Testament. They wouldn’t at all discuss the New Testament and I told them revelation of the Trinity is present throughout the Old Testament. Went from Genesis through Deuteronomy in key passages. They still wanted to nit pick context and words and only would read from KJV. They denied Christ as God, but only want the King James like it was the only inspired translation. So it was an uphill discussion which left me frustrated and confused as to what this person wanted to learn. Then we got into a discussion of sin and sacrificial law, which they really had no answer for. They insisted on strict obedience with no need for faith and tried to use that as an argument. I showed them Abraham believed God and it being accounted as righteousness before he ever received the command for circumcision or demonstrated obedience. It was super frustrating and lasted for hours. He militated against the New Testament, said things were added or taken away, and demonized Christ saying he is the bright morning star in Revelation. He said that Christ equated himself to Satan identified as son of the morning in Isaiah. It felt fruitless. However during the talk about strict obedience to the law I asked what sacrifice he offered for atonement for his sins every year. He said none and asked what sacrifice I offered. I told him Jesus was my sacrifice, taking on the punishment I was due for my sins, and considering me righteous by my faith in his completed atonement, just as Abraham was considered righteous by his faith. He pretty much shut me down and argued against John’s testimony of Jesus in John 1 as the word, light, and says it doesn’t specifically say that is Jesus in those passages. I told him it was a testimony of Jesus as God, the second person of the Trinity, intimately involved in creation.
