Having my friend, Jelena from Europe with me it was time to adress a topic we get asked about all the time: Why would we leave Europe and move to the Philippines? Isn't it a "Downgrade"?
We discussed our point of view while sharing our stories about what made us choose the Philippines!

I think its not so much a materialistic living, as more of a throw-away living. We easily acquire things, then we get tired of them and then go for another thing or throw away the one we used to have. Its not bad to acquire things, but we should maximize them but not be a slave to wanting them. My parents, who are also poor, always care for things they buy specially those that help them in their daily life. We once had a TV that lasted 20 years, a ref that lasted 20 years and now I inherited the ref that I still use for 35 years. I also have a washing machine that is 28 years old and still fine. Its more of the care, and I think that helps us in being contented in the throw-away mentality. And when we asked our parents to replace their old, obsolete equipment they ask us how much is the new equipment and are surprised at the price. To them , they're expensive. I think in the past Europe and even the US used to be contented with their things and never wished for newer and shinier things. If it works, then it is ok. If its broke they will fix it or until it can no longer be used. The commercialism and consumer-mindedness of today is what makes our life complicated and that is why we yearn for the simpler life, but not so simple that we do away with the basic things that we need (not want). That's all I can say and I do hope that you have a wonderful time and these are just my own thoughts and in no way am I contradicting anyone. I respect all opinions. Thanks you for reading till the end.

It's good to see both of your perspectives including the elaboration your personal views and experiences living there having boots on the ground like yourself Susie. I was born in Ramstein Air base in Miesenbach, Germany. Most of my family is and was in the military we travelled all over the world and I've always found the Philippines a very heart warming place to visit. As each day passes it's another day closer for me to pack up from California and settling somewhere out there. I too, want to experience that simpler life and just want to be around people with big hearts. No place is perfect but there is also no other place in the world that compares to the Philippines. Many of my friends have already relocated there. So to sum things up I'm looking forward to doing the same. Thank you for your candor in the matter. Always looking forward to your future betsowals.

You two are right, there's much difference living here than in Europe. Here in the Philippines, you'll feel freedom, relax, safe and energetic. People here will treat you as an important person, show their hospitality, helpfulness and kind... although generally it's warmer here but there're places where you can find comfortable atmosphere that will suit you, like in Baguio, other part of the mountain provinces and Tagaytay. It's not totally comfort, and money are important in life but happiness, peace in life and relationship to the environment are the most important. Please continue vlogging Sussie and Jolena, we loved your videos coz we're always watching you. Love always!💕

Susie is correct when saying work home work home and so much of rules to follow, Rules are everywhere in each country but the beauty of freedom is different which Philippines on that level☺.Have fun ladies and continue spreading good vibes to the Philippines. Salamat!

Living in the Philippines isn't a downgrade. I've been seeing lots of comments from Filipinos on other vlogs that are quite self destructive. But why? Is it a sense of insecurity? When other people are giving compliments to the country then there is no need to downplay the culture and point out any negatives. Just be proud to be who you are ..... a Filipino! 🇵🇭 😀👌

Hello Susie and Jelena! Nice to hear from your thoughts and impressions about our country. Speaking of freedom, to be honest with you the Philippines has too much freedom. In fact freedom here is too loose to the extent that it is abused here in our country. To some extent this freedom is detrimental to our country. On the other side, im still longing to visit European countries if given a chance, but to live permanently.......there is no place like my HOME COUNTRY.

When I was a child I heard the story of "The City Rat & the Rural Rat". The Rural Rat dreamt of the life in the city, and mesmerized by the modern buildings, transportation, and career opportunity. While the City Rat tired of the Rat Race is dreaming about the simple, peaceful life that he hear about rural living. He dreams quitting his life in the city and living in the province. Think this story applies to you two contrast to Filipinos who dream coming to Europe earning in the system of hard rat race

You two Europeans are both crazy! Jumping from first class countries, or so, to a third world country. You are nuts! But I can see and understand why. I am a Filipino (with dual nationality). Filipinos live in a different fabric of a society. You may be poor, or the poorest, but each survive, or try to survive, within their circle. Neighbors, friends, family, cling to each other. They are sharing --- the happiness, the sadness, the grieving, the joy --- in the best way possible. They laugh it off, they dance it off, they sing it off. The country may be poor, life may be hard, but somehow, hope is not too far. God willing, life goes on, amid struggles, worries, problems. Bathala na. Bahala na. It's bayanihan, togetherness, helping each other. And somehow, it works.
