Texas gulf coast here. Heavy clay soil and flat as a pancake. We run rippers as fast as possible in preparation for our rainy season in September/October. Love the 11 shank Wilcox plow.

To break through the hard pan resulting from plowing year after year at the same depth.

Would there be any benefits to burning corn residue or would it be detrimental to yields?

There are a LOT of nutrients in those corn stalks. We need to cycle them back into the soil as they breakdown. If burnt, those are mostly lost.
