I have been following your travels on KZbin. I am a sailor and a father. Ten years ago my wife and I had a similar experience with our IVF second child. I am happy to say, she not only made it, but at 9, she is a women's open national gymnastics champion. She is preparing for the World Championships next year. She made it through so much and it has made her the strongest person I know. I know your son will grow big and strong because of and in spite of all he has lived through. Boats are nice. Travels and adventures are nice, but this adventure will change your life. All the best, and thank you for sharing.

That was wonderful Dom. Our first son was born totally unexpectedly at six months through. He too had collapsing lungs and other issues to navigate. Thankfully we all came through as a family and he has gone on to succeed academically and work wise. Interestingly, at the time we had taken time off work to build our own wee Grand Design in the New Zealand bush. We were living in a garage and were completely unprepared for this event. You’re right, at the end of the day there was, only one priority for the challenging three months that followed. Go you guys!

in 1919 my Grandparents gave birth to a very premature little girl . They were warned not to become to attached as she was a " sickly " child . Well 96 years later the doctors predictions came true and she passed away . but in that very brief 96 years she grew up , raised a family of her owne and became my favourite aunt .

Wow! Thank god you are all ok. Ok now I have to say something - I was very very premature 70 years ago. St Mary’s Hospital in Portsmouth had just taken delivery of some new fangled incubator things when I arrived so early my mum didn’t know she was even pregnant. Thanks to the amazing NHS, and parents as wonderful as I know you will be, I am here 70 years later and I am still fighting fit. In short so take it from me because I have lived it. Your little boy will be fine, you will all be fine. Thank you for the update I appreciate how difficult it was for you to tell.

Take all the time you need and we, of course, will welcome all of you back with open arms. We noticed how much time Carly spent with Hank and he misses that attention, but with understanding. Dogs are more aware than we realize. Dom, you will just have to fill in for her and give Hank all the personal attention he misses. On December 31, 2000, my wife, seven months pregnant, went into preterm labor, and gave birth four days later. Our son wasn't quite as premature as yours, but was 8 weeks early. He spent 23 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care. My wife had a placental abruption, and lost a lot of blood as well. Last December, he graduated college, and starts his career as a teacher in August. We have been sailing down the south coast this last few weeks using your anchorages and videos as we settle into our new life. Your videos have never been far from our thoughts and we missed your updates. I went through something very similar with one of my sons 27 years ago, your life is suddenly not your own and your days are wildly out of control. When sailing you have some level of control over your life and your vessel but a very sick child is a superhighway roller coaster. I’m so glad to see you all doing so much better and now you can start to get that roller coaster back under control. My son is now a 6ft 4 super hero, he played rugby at school to a national level and left University 3 years ago. You probably will have lots more sleepless nights and a few extra speed bumps to negotiate so take your rest and don’t worry too much about the videos we will still be here waiting for you and wishing you all well. Looking forward to meeting Hudson in the videos one day. Give Hank a big hug . Dogs are very aware of what is happening too

Not “a bunch of strangers for entertainment”, but a strange kind of asymmetric friends, who all know you, but you have never met any of them 😊. This must have been a terribly difficult video to record, and some of the breaks were evident and very understandable. I can assure you, this was not entertainment, but a desperately sad yet welcome update on some ‘very special sailing friends’. So lovely to see that wonderful smile and hear Carly’s laugh again. Mutual swipe right as you once said to me ❤. And wonderful to see them both now home with you and well. I am finding it hard to contain tears. Wonderful to hear all is getting better. Good enough for you to consider Cadhoa again 😊 Congratulations on the new family, if a little earlier than you expected. And thank you for sharing such a very personal experience in such a lovely way ❤❤

You have told a terrible and wonderful story that will resonate with many families, sailing or not, who experienced a similar life changing event. It is so important to see how these moments shake everyone including you. So thank you for this. It will help others to hear your story. I hope that people are generous enough to continue supporting you, no matter how much or little you post. Enjoy your time together and although the boat is a wonderful project make sure you have time to think. Walks in the country with our dog are the best moments for me to do this. Another point, please make sure Hank gets enough attention and cuddles, specially if he is near your little one; being able to sniff and being close him is very important for them to bond. Focus on Hank so he still feels as the number one in your life and is not replaced by the new arrival in the family. Enjoy every single day.
