I remember one summer, a homeless guy was sitting on a bench outside our store. Customers entered an exited the store without giving him a second glance. Later, when a lady who was coming into our store tied a dog to the same bench, people who were sitting in the cafe' started to complain that the dog was sitting in the summer heat. One of my co-workers eventually brought a cup of water out and set it next to the dog. SHE BROUGHT A CUP OF WATER TO A DOG IN FULL VIEW OF A MAN IN THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES. A MAN WHOM SHE TOTALLY IGNORED. During my break, I went out and talked to the guy and asked him if there was anything he needed. He said that he didn't to bother anyone. When I asked him if he'd say no to a bottle of water, he said that he'd appreciate one, so a bought him a liter.

The good thing about dogs is anything can be anything to them. Their pretty much a mind to be molded into what you want ( i know that sounds bad but i dont mean it in a psycho controlling type way). My collie knows he did something bad or good just by how i talk to him or how i react to whatever he is doing, and he learns the first time with pretty much everything if hes supposed to or not supposed to do something. A reward could be an ice cube (what does the dog know? As far as it knows it just got something it can eat that it didnt have before). A reward could literally be saying good boy buddy etc. anything can be anything with a dog, you just need to learn how to treat it, and train it. Too often people just resort to hitting their pet or something when it does something questionable simply because that's how people think they need to teach the being. If you can think outside the box when it comes to owning a pet and not just blindly try to teach it things and wonder why its not learning then youll guaranteed have an amazing dog, the puppy years are the hardest and at certain points in their young lives they get worse before they get better but if you can make it through their first year or so without being a stupid person then youll have a great companion for years.

Because we live in a sad age where people care more about animals than their fellow human beings, and they falsely assume that a dog offers unconditional love and non-judgement when the truth of the matter is that the dog has very little choice in the matter and is no more intelligent than the average two-year-old. And just because it can’t speak English doesn’t equal out to non-judgement or eternal agreement. People just want something that will coddle them like a security blanket; god forbid anybody care about real people anymore. You wouldn’t believe how much more money we throw away into pit bull rescue charities and such when there are homeless kids starving right in our own cities and towns. I think maybe it boils down to how we feel about ourselves. As we grow into adulthood we become increasingly self-sufficient but at the cost of our innocence. Most of us look back on our childhoods with affection, romanticism and longing. On the flip side, most of our harsher life experiences are associated with other self-sufficient, non-innocent adults who have agendas, plans and intents. Babies and animals remind us of this innocence that we've lost so naturally we feel inclined to protect this feeling. Notice that I didn't say protect the baby or animal but protect the "feeling". By protecting the baby/animal we are preserving that feeling we associate with our own lost innocence. I believe it's ultimately selfish. Likewise, we tend not to care as much about other adults because we associate them with harsher, stark realities.

In my opinion, its based on understanding. Lets say a human gets assaulted by another human, the human beeing asaulted, even tho it sucks for him, he has an understanding of the situation, he understands that the person is deranged thats why he attacked him or what ever the potential reason might be. A dog cant logically understand why he is getting asaulted, he is only trying to give out love and joy, but he is getting assaulted without knowing why. Same with human babies, they dont have the understanding of ANYTHING at the beginning, but the more they become adults and the more they can understand things, the less attached / protective of them we feel, unlike dogs, puppy or grown up dog, they still lack understanding of basic things. I think we humans feel sorry for other beeings who dont understand the world like we do, we feel sorry for the lack of knowledge of other beeings. Ps. We are also attached and defensive of people with mental disabilities, again i think because of the same reason, they lack the "normal" intellect and feel bad for them.

It sickens me that these people would rather blame ordinary individuals for the collective blunders of humanity in it's entirety to justify valuing a dog more than a human. Dogs are a shining example of true subservience, something humans have always craved and will do many things to get. Dogs will not argue, will not retort, will not have an opposing opinion, will not have meaningful connections with anyone else and most importantly to these people, will not live independently. This behavior allows for a being that can be neglected, abused, unfed, unloved and generally mistreated that will *still* love you and be mostly obedient. Humans will not tolerate inequality however. We must all value eachother as humans and feel the same compassion for eachother so that we may move towards a better tomorrow. There are millions of families and entire communities starving to death. Children being sold and raped. People being incarcerated, beaten and killed because of their skin colour, homeless individuals succumbing to 100% preventable circumstances, war weary veterans who come home only to realize that they have no home. The mentally ill who are refused proper treatment, etc. Love your fellow humans and do unto others as you would yourself. Cherish those close to you and accept them despite their flaws and shortcomings. Forgive those who have jaded you, not for their sake but for your own and for those around you. A dog may live 18 years and only show you love and obedience. A human will take you on the brilliant emotional rollercoaster that is life and may be with you for a lifetime.

I would be interested to learn something in regard to what he mentioned about people finding babies cute. The part about us thinking they are cute being a survival mechanic- I know of people (me included) who don't think infants are cute or even just find they don't care for babies or kids. Actually, you're completely wrong. Humans shouldn't be like dogs, the same reason as for why dogs shouldn't be like humans. Dogs seem all nice, innocent, and cute because they're not as intelligent as human beings. The ability to criticize, have an opinion, judge, create, etc. are the reasons why humans are like us! Dogs are just animals who are INCAPABLE of criticizing, or having an opinion, or to judge because they are dogs who are dumber than humans. They are not acting that certain way because they want to, they are like that because they have no knowledge of such. This is what makes human valuable, the ability to really think. We feed them, clean their feces and urine, we walk them, we do everything for them. Humans are blinded by dog's inability to think smart and that is why we think they're perfect, however, they're not. They're just animals. We're certainly animals too, but I can surely tell you that we're far more superior and valuable than just a single dog. For example, which do you think would have declined racism? Martin Luther King Jr. or a dog? Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too.

I cry both if the dog/pet dies and if the hero dies too. It's pretty much an equal reaction as long as the scenes are set up in such a way enough to set me off. A great example would be Red Dog for me (spoiler ahead for those yet to see it). I cry as much for John as I do Red Dog. And War Horse had me crying for both horses and humans. I love animals and often enjoy their company more than people, but unless I know the person has done something truly evil I wouldn't save an animal instead of a person. I find puppies cuter than babies, but would save the kid. We should want to save our species first. But I'd definitely cry buckets over the animal I couldn't save afterwards.

Troy good to hear that you have a cool family.But i disagree with you when you say that dogs only attack people when they have been mistreated. i was attacked by my family dog as a kid. we have had him for years (adopted him as a pup)and my family especially my dad loves him and treats him better than even us sometimes. But he bit me one day just out of the blue for absolutely no reason and refuses to let go of me.I was taken to ICU and got so many stitches.Ever since that day i fear dogs and dislike them. Not only that but my brother's friend was also attacked and killed by a pet dog.so no am no fan of them.But i dont mind small dogs and small puppies .I do agree though that they will naturally fight back if they have been abused but why not fight the abusers and bite grown men and women why pick the vulnerable and helpless ones like babies,kids and old people ?Babies pooping in their pants is gross but i'd rather kiss and cuddle something that poops in their pants than something that eats poop,lick or sniff their ass and eat raw meat.ugh.And just curious why do you hate babies so much that you even agreed with someone who said he wanted to shoot babies? Thats so messed up. I have been badly attacked by a dog and i may not like dogs but i would hate it if someone talks about shooting or killing them.what have a baby done to you?Its not healthy to hate something that much especially when they are so helpless and vulnerable.I hope you changes as you grow older.Have a nice day/night.

Dogs are what humans would be without their evil human nature side. They are innocence personified or dogified. No other animal (or many humans actually) would love a human the ways a dog would. It is a result of dogs evolving alongside humans for thousands of years. I love my dog as if he were my little brother. The reason is, he loves me the same way. When I get married I hope have three dogs, and, max, one kid.

Just be sure you marry a woman who understands that. I had a girlfriend who was jealous that I prioritized my dog over everything in life, including her (we had known each other for only 3-4 months and she figured she should already be priority over my child). If you marry the wrong woman, it'll just be tension in the house.

Dog and cat obsessed people need to get a life. They can't speak and only want food so will obey anyone that won't attack them. A serial killer can have a dog that follows him everywhere and licks his face. I believe the mentality behind it is like religion in a way. I am fully pro working dogs, just not pets.

I find babies cute unlike everyone in the comment section. (Before you say "oh well try having one" I have 2 younger brothers, I held them after birth, and I'm basically their 2nd mom. Nonetheless, they were way cute than an actual toddler\kid, who will throw a loud ass fit in Target if you don't get them those gummy bears. Just an opinion, anyway.

A relative brought home a street dog who bit everyone in his house else than him (his kids, elderly parents ect.) Such emotionally intelligent creatures must know how that makes him feel, but doesn't care. Dogs instinctually seek a leader to follow, who they know they'll be relying on. The joy and the loyalty a dog gives you ALL THE TIME, no human can. The "HACHIKO" movie (true story!) is one of the best examples of a dog's love and amazing devotion for its master! Not even the death (of his master) could change that!
