First time to come across your blog. I trained and worked in the UK, nurse, midwife, health visitor and got a degree in psychology. Now retired I'm a trained Montessori teacher, my childhood desire. Back home people do mock you cos of the accent. And they'll shout so that everyone in the supermarket can hear them. It happened to me when I'd only said excuse me please I want to pass. So don't build a fantasy hope. Some relatives can also be in competition with you to show you that they're better than you who went abroad. Church I love it too yet you find some just ignoring you as if you don't exist. So please go with an open mind. Make sure that you're financially secure and you don't dish out money like you're a multimillionare. Stop and thing before you want to help anybody financially. I paid over 400usd per term for a niece to do a course she wanted. It turned out that she was expecting me to give her the money in her hand. But I went to the college to pay it myself. She didn't even finish first term, she dropped out. Use wisdom. Don't paprika with excitement otherwise you'll end up looking stupid. Some people I should say relatives are very good at that. Be warned, some of us are there. Stay blessed. UK/Zim.

I luv Zimbabwe but 1 year 8 months in New Zealand has changed my perspective on diaspora life. New Zealand is a bit more accepting because its very multi cultural and you can face racism here & there I guess (personally I haven't experienced it). My plan is to get my kids NZ citizenship so that when we finally decide to retire back home, we have somewhere to run away to when the shit hits the fan.
@Chiedza-mm4dw6 ай бұрын
Be careful that plan doesn't always work can backfire. So.e children will become soo westernised you will have nowhere to run to 😂... some get that nz citizenship next thing they go usa or uk. N Best plan invest in a family enterprise of sorts so that if possible you go back together as a family monoshanda pamwe chete. Splitting your family up has more negatives than positives.
@chirasha-nz-zim6 ай бұрын
@@Chiedza-mm4dwThats my point exactly. When they get NZ citizenship, they will definitely be flexible to choose to go to USA, Aussie or wherever they want. My reasons to run back to NZ will not be for the kids but for myself because I will also have NZ citizenship.Truth is, when you move to a new country with young kids, mine are 5 and 7yers. There is no way you can expect them to embrace our Zim culture 100% even with frequent visits back to our homeland. On splitting up family, I thought the circle of life is that when you leave your parent's house to get married, you are starting a new thing. I was born in a family of 5 and everyone is married and raising their family in the way that they see fit. We talk on the phone, support each other with funds here and there, visit each other when we have the time, send mum and dad some upkeep money. To me thats life and not splitting. I have never seen a lot of Zim families successfully running family dynasties.
@Chiedza-mm4dw6 ай бұрын
@martinchamambo what a shame... look at Asians, look at jewish families even some real white families. As Zimbabweans we used have close families ties traditionally kumamisha. We fragmented into towns and peused to go kumusha every public holiday. Now we fragmented into diaspora its even worse. You are closer to your roots that's why you taking it for granted. In uk there was a thing called Windrush scandal were one day the gvt chased people from Caribbean some who had raised their children and bought houses had to leave deemed illegal immigrants. Trust me the gvt can easily make such "mistakes" where black people are involved. Black Americans who are descendents of slaves still are not American enough and some are making their way to Africa to trace their roots. In Ghana they are acquiring citizenship and taking up Ghanaian names just to be where they belong. Your descendents shall never be "at home" in those western countries and will curse you if you destroy their Zimbabwean heritage. By the time they want to return to Zimbabwe as you foretell they will be foreigners and in whichever country they will be they will be worse foreigners. Its a huge betrayal on your family to set them up for a future in countries they are clearly unwanted. As you say Africans have no succession plan.for their families and that translates to our societies and countries... its such a shame a huge shame. Nothing admirable about that western way you clearly articulated where everything is about money... Money to your parents is worthless without your presence and the grandchildren's presence. Uprooted families with identity crisis no sense of belonging no self respect.

Man, I live in the US and came home for a few monts and came across a few Chinese that frequented my sister's business. One in particular acted entitled and was doing something that he should not be doing and I asked my uncle and the other guys whats up with this guy. They said he does not listen, i said hell no. The next time he came i read the riot act, tried to ask me who i was and if i I knew him, pretty much told him if you dont do as I say you can take your business elsewhere. He sulked and complied. For the few months i was there, he acted right. Our people are disappointing sometimes. They put foreigners on a pedestal even when they are paying the same amount as the next black person. Terrible.

@@cheeny4 No, thanks. It gets tiring how our people act. I would go with two or three non black employees to try and buy some very specific tools. I always dress very casual and I cannot tell you how many times it was automatically assumed I am an employee when I was the one going to pay. These behaviors signal to any bad intentioned foreigner that we ourselves lack confidence and willingly perceive non blacks as better than us. This has to stop.

@molly-moe6 ай бұрын
Building a house means less financial burden on yourself, no needs for monthly rent, have a borehole to have a constant water supply. Then when it comes to employment these days it's all about creating your own. I have been advised not to have 1 source of income that way it becomes easier

@molly-moe thanks for this topic which has brought up some really interesting conversations. I like others am based in the Uk over 20 years now and also making plans to relocate back home. Over here the racism is quite subtle but still there and tbh just the rat race of working to pay bills is not really a life as you ask yourself for how long will I do this for. You are so right where you mention back home if you have made a plan like build your own home and so forth then that’s already a huge chunk of money saved. You can continue to grow this channel as well Molly and get some revenue from it people are making money some even leaving their full time jobs. Good luck Molly and family.

It's because in their own countries they know they would only rarely extend us the same curteousy; and when they say we are friendly I now read that to mean that they think we are a bit stupid and very very naive which we are. Those same Chinese who are telling us to go back home are all over in Zimbabwe as we speak and what are we doing as a people we are busy thanking them that they are giving us jobs and not sitting back to perceive what they really are and what their real intentions among us is. I will try to have a home, get rentals and have a small business or something in Zimbabwe. Honestly I don't want to go to another foreign country. I don't like the long periods of winter. What I feel now is I would rather have basics back home. When things get very bad then would consider going elsewhere

Us Africans experience oppression in all foreign countries, it will either make you strong and you will suffer all sort mental health issues. I am glad you have worked within these oppresive societies , you will be stronger for it all. Try and look about how you can start a business in Zim, you now know all the suppliers in China. Yes we have real meat in Africa, vegies. I know lots of Zim people here have already gone home they were saying the Aussie Dollar like mad. I will go home as well soon, just need to buy the SA home, than away I go

Yet when we see light skinned people we "worship" them. If only we understood and took action, Africa can do without Those but they can't do without us.

Where l stay and work here in the U.K l don't to lie:: racism is hidden. Rare::because where l bought a house, my next door is a South African, my work mates are 99% philipinos and Indians::so am preparing to go home::just to relax:: while having a business running in the UK.and Zimbabwe. That's my plan.

That empty sit in a bus depressed me. But these guys have their people in our African countries and they get quality treatment. Life is unfair for real.

I'm in Montreal Canada, girl, racism from the older French speaking people has got me considering going back home as well. Like you, Quebec government is good and they take care of immigrants, study loans, financial support, etc. At the end of the day, it's not home.

There qre differences in culture but what do you call it when one touches your breast and hair because you are a foreigner. In their culture they respect each other's space a lot
