That’s a great statement. No matter what you do to alter your hair, you will eventually return back to natural. That’s how I feel about the wigs and weaves as well. I just hope women will return natural before they damage their scalp and follicles to the point where they have little to no hair when they do. There are too many women suffering from major alopecia and it’s heartbreaking.

Thank you hun ☺️ I absolutely love how you’ve articulated that and I couldn’t agree more. All these other artificial hair experiences come at a cost, as time progresses we’re learning that it’s actually a very high cost. Thank you for being so knowledgeable and conscious 🥹 It’s always so refreshing to read such comments 💗 I have hope again lol ❤️🙏🏾

I love the part about giving your hair grace. If you take the time to understand how something works, you will give it the grace to know what it can and can't do, and what it is and what it isn't. It has taken me 6-7 years to actually fall in love with my 4c hair. I was in my 20s before I actually knew my natural hair texture outside of relaxers. It takes work to learn to love your hair, especially type 4 hair, but it is so rewarding when you get there. And also, I hate the flat droopy texture of relaxed hair especially when it's wet. But after all is said and done, to each her own.

Hey beautiful, thank you for taking the time to bless us with such a wonderful message. I’m always interested in everyone’s personal journeys. A natural hair journey is not necessarily easy because there’s so much unlearning that has to be done but those that are persistent definitely get rewarded. I’m so proud of you for being true to what matters to you and for embracing your pretty coils 🥹🤍 The best is yet to come!🥰❤️

Preach… I’m personally tired of all the 4c girls talking down on natural hair online. Just relax your hair and go. The theatrics about how terrible your hair is aren’t needed.

100% agree with you. The worst part is that the hair is listening just like any other body part or any other area in your life - if you feed it negativity, it will respond back with negativity 🤷🏽♀️

Never had a full-blwon relaxer, but I did get a Care Free Curl ONCE in 1991, and I didn't like the fact that I had to keep spraying activator to make the curls look cute. That was beginning and the end of my toxic chemical hair altering journey. Yep, been natural for 30-odd years, and now that I'm loc'd, it looks like I'm gonna stay that way.

I last relaxed my hair in 2004 and haven't looked back. I've locked it when I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong and have gone back to being a loose natural. This time round, my hair journey's been a lot more enjoyable. I absolutely love looking after my hair but Ja...it's been a journey. I totally agree with you on everything, but I feel a level of understanding when someone is a little impatient or frustrated. I also feel like our hair and our ability to care and be patient with it, is hugely connected to self-care.
@zinhle.africa3 ай бұрын
Wow, the way I have a soft spot for locs 🥰 I used to say I would get sister locs when I’m a lot older. I can’t imagine how difficult it was to be natural in what I call, the strongest relaxer era, I’m in awe 🫢 I’m curious to know if you combed them out or cut them off? I agree with what you said about how a hair journey is connected to self-care. In many ways it also shows the level of consciousness that a person has about themselves and their blackness/African Identity. I just wonder if a lot more would be different in our communities, if we had more information about all things we do to ourselves, health wise.

@@zinhle.africaCutting off the relaxer in the early 2000s for me felt like I was marching to the beat of my own drum and I loved it. I cut them off...I believe in starting anew. I hear you re identity, the more connected you are to yourself, the more closeness you have to your hair journey. I try to educate the people I can, but most people just aren't ready and it's a shame.

I use relaxers because I’m extremely tender headed. I get them about four times a year
@zinhle.africa3 ай бұрын
I hear you, one of my nieces are tender headed, I don’t underestimate that at all. However I think when people are tender headed, they are even more deserving of quality products that soften the hair and completely take away the pain from any manipulation. When in the salon the stylists should understand you and should be extremely gentle when handling the hair.
@Vienna-ng6ix3 ай бұрын
I am tender headed, too, and was never comfortable using any detangling tool on my coils. So I started finger detangling and experienced no pain while being able to tackle all knots without breakage!! I will say it takes a lot of time, but it's worth it to retain length. Wide tooth combs are the only tools I use if I need a bit more help in time management.
