Very beneficial lecture. I reverted to Islam from Christianity, and one to the reasons I left Christianity was the lack of authenticity in regards to the text itself and applicable commentary work. Alhamdulillah, Allah has preserved Islam via the Prophets pbuh teachings and the understanding of the salaf-which all was preserved by their writings and oral traditions. From that standpoint, it is very clear that if we believe in Islam and believe in Allah and His Messenger pbuh, we must look at the understanding of the Quran and Sunnah that the companions of Muhammad had. From that, knowledge is passed down from them, to their students, and from them, to their students... all the way until today Alhamdulillah. We should always take from our well-known scholars who were known to be upon the haqq by those before them and so on. If someone comes with something, we simply ask for proofs and evidences from the Quran and Sunnah. If that person is unable to provide that, and/or gives his own opinions, then we must direct ourselves back to the scholars and not stray from them. Yes, humans make errors, but when a well-known scholar errors, he repents and rectified it. In the west, we often see young men learn online or go learn a few years in KSA, then come home and cut off the from the scholars whom they learned from. Then some of them tell the people to come to them for knowledge and not go to the scholars. That is dangerous speech. May Allah swt protect us from that. A saying floats around academia in KSA, which basically states that after you complete a 4 year program, then you have only begun your process as a student of knowledge. Many of our respected Shayuk have studied for decades upon decades. We should not cut them off and only go to local brothers who studied a few years only, especially if their litmus test is whether or not one has a homosexual neighbor. That is not the criteria of whom you should take knowledge from. May Allah reward Abu Khadeejah and the brothers for their work, as well as the person who uploaded this lecture. May Allah swt increase us in beneficial knowledge and sound understanding.

Don't take knowledge from people unknown to the scholars and the students of knowledge.

But don't be the blind follower of ulamah-e-haq, rather seek ilm from them and if their istimbaat is from the ahadeeth which are weak according to jumhoor muhaditheen then with kind way leave that but keep on seeking ilm from real ulamah and kibaar ulamah-e-haq. As ulamah-e-haq are even human beings and can make mistakes.
