Jess at Roots and Refuge said an older man told her to put a whole egg, cracked, in the bottom of the hole for tomatoes. She was amazed at the higher production and how healthy her plants were. We did this, for the first time and our plants are beautiful. Can't wait to see how the tomatoes turn out.
@simplymeconnie40032 жыл бұрын
It works. I eat eggs every morning. I decided to just throw them in a container for a few days while the tomatoes were getting ready to head outside. Then when I planted them, I dug a trench and put them in, then covered. I dug the hole for the tomato and in went a cracked egg. I had a ton of tomatoes last year

Not just the shells, the whole egg. It takes a long time for the shells to break down so the egg itself must speed up the process. Not sure how it works but it does.

WE put hair under our plants. Keeps ants from eating them. We did this under tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, everything except what we planted via seed. We used peat pots to start some of the seeds too. Also, a few cat turds scattered throughout the garden to keep cats from digging in the garden. It was always a race, between us & my mother-in-law, to see who would harvest the 1st tomato. 😊 We used peat moss & manure in our raised beds too.

You could make wind breaks out of clear gallon jugs of water. Simply cut the tops and bottoms of gallon jugs and place in the soil around the plant. They're easily removed or you can leave them in place. They don't interfere with plant growth.

When planting tomato plants, we always put a plant pot next to where the plant sticks out of the soil. This is so that when watering the plants, you first water as normal, then fill the spare pot, thus making sure the plant root gets an even drink every time, tomatoes love this. Don't forget to nip out the little offshoots at each branch. We also find that when we put a basil plant beside the tomato plants , it keeps the bugs away. Thats how it is over here in Germany (Y)

With those little peat pots on the seedlings, you either have to remove them or at least break out the bottoms or soak them until almost crumbling before you plant them or they will prevent the roots from breaking through! They say you can just plant them as is , but I never had luck with them! If you make seedling pots out of newspaper, they will deteriorate when wet. Garden looks good, but in the woods nothing can be left out in the open without a fence around them! Good luck with Bobby! God Bless!

That would saved you probably a bunch of money on potting soil. Or you coulda had a dump a truck load of mulch on your property. Fill with that then top with soil to actually plant in. Just a thought for next year i guess.....

So far the soil mixture seems right as the plants are doing well. We had 100 mile an hour straight winds on Friday. Took the steeple off the church and a huge tree fell on the house next to it. One home looked like it blew up. The 3 new grain bins the elevator had are twisted pretzels. There are Debree fields miles long in the poor farmers fields. I was lucky my plastic beds did not all blow away.
