Dutch I'm curious does the mill have grease serts for you to put grease in it for the different places on it cause to me the main saw barrings on it needs to be greased up again and yeah that's a good idea about using a metal detecter for finding out if it has nails or anything metal in the log itself too

Make a bench or table for the house, desk top anything like that. Put some urethane on top. After seeing the end of the log, you almost need to cut more to see if it’s rotten! Good luck figuring out what to do. ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼

Dutch I would love to see this as a coffee table, or the head of a desk in the girls room, or on their wall, or a head board on their beds. Your front porch could use a small bench to put packages for UPS on. You could do a lot of things with this I could keep you busy all day. I love the wood, lucky you.

That live edge siding is amazing. That wood would make a great floating shelf on a wall in your house. Those scraps would make for a fancy dog or pig house to match. Also you can use a torch on the wood to bring out the grain more. That works well on the pieces that don't have as much character.

I would have thought to maximise yield the smaller diameter end was better to trim for max saw length than larger diameter end. The chain saw trim appears to have removed the bigger end. So reducing number of slabs to be cut. To the thin diameter.

Hello everyone, how are you? It was nice to see you riding through the property showing us your beautiful creek. The kids have grown Soo much, Wow. Becareful letting them ride on that high grass without a machete. A bunch of people are getting bitten by copperheads, so be careful. I think you should make a kitchen counter, and night tables for your bedroom out of the little pieces, that's gorgeous. You should look at " Blacktail Studio," Resin table build. The house it's looking great.

Take the section of wood that the large mark is in, cut a design into the edges on either end (maybe make it look "torn?"), then put a sturdy wire on the back of it and hang it on a finished wall in the new house. Voila! A fabulous piece of art!
@lindaharkey4242 жыл бұрын
Use blue resin to make a river and make a table or shelves. A fireplace mantel it would be beautiful. It could be a worm that attacks oak wood. The wood is very expensive and called wormy oak. It is used in alot of furniture making. Do you use ivory soap in your water? It acts like a lubricant and helps with the friction on the blades. We have been milling with a Woodmizer LT 40 mill for over 31 years. There are so many things you can make with wood from your mill. Your house is coming along great.

Yes I think glue and saw dust will help as long as it has time to dry, also you should buy a 5 gallon bucket of wood sealer and give it a couple coats with a sprayer if you can after you let it dry out a little bit, looks great ! I also like the natural bark edge 👍👍
@andypickle15842 жыл бұрын
I see a few comments that suggest a poly coat to seal. Maybe someone else has made this suggestion already, but I'd suggest you look up resin or epoxy pour table tops. Cool thing is by adding powder pigment you can add some impressive color. Make a clean cut down the middle of a plank. Flip the clean edge to the outside. Build a form. You can tape or hot glue the seams to prevent leakage. The raw edges are left raw but grind off the bark and sand. The two raw edges go to the middle leaving an organic space you fill with the resin. Bust open the form and finish using planer, sander, router, what's available. Another cool feature is to run an electric current via nails and a arc welder. Can also use jumper cables but be sure to ground. It burns into the wood following the sap. Looks like a forked lightning bolt. Clean out the burnt wood and fill with what you like. I've seen turquoise pebbles and resin. Lots of videos about this on utube. Have fun with it.
@micaelahawkins55652 жыл бұрын
You could possibly use the thinner piece & put it over the house front door, or inside over front door as conversation & art piece, or use over cabin front door if too thin for house. Then use the next piece to make a matching bench & small table by front door. Morning coffee there. 😊

I saw a table where they built a frame around the slabs of oak and also a bottom. They then poured blue polyurethane between the oak boards with some small river rock pebbles. Once it was dry, then they poured clear polyurethane on top. Once they had the level they wanted, they let it dry, then they pulled the frame boards off, sanded and polished to desired finish. It was beautiful.

That's what adds character to building your homestead. Yes set it to the side, protected. You could always turn it into a beam to carry the load of the upstairs so when you look up you have a story for that log. We cut some beautiful logs to use for steps in our house. Just cut the log off flat and leave rounded like your first slice through a log. Every time you walk upstairs it's pleasant to see those special steps you made. And I want to tell you not to worry about those piles and brush in your 'yard' lol. It's a gradual thing ;) There will come a time when burning brush is the only thing you can do during some weather. You'll get to it. Every little bit helps. Do the girls like to drive around on the tractor with a cart doing some cleanup?
