So simple yet elegant, as a former soldier I'm left with tears in my eyes. Thank You.

I live in an country which is dotted with CWGC cemeteries filled with young men of the RAF from European and Commonwealth countries. I always take time to pay my respects. I was recently in Ypres and went to the Menin Gate last post ceremony and the surrounding cemeteries. I also went to Thiepval, a dombering experience.

When I was a child, in the 50s & 60s, my mother would drive into town to shop and outside the grocery store would be veterans handing out red, paper poppies. The world has become more thoughtless and selfish since those times. I am grateful to our veterans.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. God Bless America. God Save the Queen.

The author did not survive the war. I cannot read that poem without tearing up. So much senseless loss; so many families deprived of fathers, husbands, and children. A whole generation of young men wiped out and all their potential contributions unrealized. Unmatched tragedy.

TYVM for posting that poem. This element of selfless devotion to country and duty has sadly been lost from todays selfish generations.

Too often we fight to keep the savages at bay, which is right and good. But then we get betrayed by the savages at home , sadly they are most often those that are supposed to be our leaders. I 35 years ago I had the great honor to have been able to keep savages out. But I have failed keeping the local savages in check. If you put on a uniform make sure that 35 years later you don't look back and feel that it was wrong. Most conflicts today are wrong. I am unable to find any place where there is a government sponsored war/conflict that is just. May God protect the souls that find him too soon
