There is also another Reason: Back when the Burgers were first made the cooks where directly hired from the Square Folk. They are very good cooks and never ever cut corners, since they take it quite litertly round patties made them uncomftable so Squares were used instead. Its also better for Storage and Stacking but nobody ever mentiones that.

The patties are made every morning in the back. They are square because the machine used to form the patties from bulk ground beef uses a square mold. The paper sheets inserted by the machine between each patty in the output stack are square. The fresh patties are stored in the refrigerator in rectangular containers. Cooking square patties on the grill is more efficient than round shape.

Actually it’s because the creator of Wendy’s stole everything from a chain known as kewpee hotels. Now it’s just known as kewpee and there’s only three in existence. They are all in the same town of Lima, Ohio. I grew up there. If you want the “original square burger” you need to go to kewpee in Lima Ohio.

They're not square in North Charleston, SC, they're round. I was living when Wendays just started becoming popular. Where they used to have commercials telling how fresh and moist they were. Where they were. Buy a Wendys burger, I needed napkins from all the juices running out. I mean they were hot and fresh. Now, as for years, they're just run of the mill. You need condiments as ketchup, mayonnaise to give a dry burger moisture. It's kind of like they're not made fresh any more,but relaxed their policy on freshness. Maybe cooking burgers ahead of time, as others do, where it's on the dry side. Which it might be best to stop in at Mom and Pop stores who quality is necessary to sell a product, not convenience.

My last experience at Wendy's sucked !!! The so called fresh never frozen beef patties tasted like dried beef jerky ! What good is it tocook fresh beef patties and then put them in a warmer to sit and become dry and inedible ? Take a hint from Five Guys Burger, their burgers go straight from the grill to the buns and to the customers hot and fresh !!! Customers have no problem waiting the extra five minutes for a quality burger.
