As a Dallas fan, all I can say is it's incredible what they were able to pull off that year and what has happened with those three players. They luckied into the lotto pick and arguably got the best player of the top 3 picks, then traded UP to get Otter and ended the round by getting Robo. The circumstances have just been perfect for all of their development, too. Robo got to bust into the league and play with a vet like Pavelski who just thinks the game so brilliantly, as well as Roope Hintz who is really the team's best all-around forward. Robo has that killer instinct and more than pulls his weight on that line now, but he came into his own a lot quicker than expected and those guys are a big part of why. Miro has just been quietly brilliant and had great defensive coaching in Rick Bowness right from the onset of his career, and Oettinger was able to have full control of the net a lot earlier than anticipated thanks to injuries to Bishop and Khudobin. Just crazy how the circumstances worked out in that draft and for each of those players.

This argument again 😂 As a Dallas fan, I feel like outside Philadelphia and Nolan Patrick's unfortunate lingering head injury issues - the top 4 picks/teams all got exactly the kind of player they were looking for in the draft. Hischier hasn't (to my limited knowledge) had the breakout that players like Makar or Heiskanen had/have but he's still a very solid forward for NJ. Dallas needed a player like Miro at the time to help lock down defensive issues and while he doesn't have quite the same level of offensive upside as Makar, Dallas still had Klinger at the time so that base was effectively covered.

Dallas is a great landing spot for Robertson. I believe that part of the reason he is thriving is because of the team he plays for. I saw him playing junior with the Kingston Frontenacs on multiple occasions. I honestly was one of the people who was very surprised to see him doing so well in the NHL. It’s not as if he was a bad hockey player but like you mentioned his skating abilities were not great. However I am very happy to see him doing so well in the big leagues. @@vivid_prizm I'd say we're doing quite well despite the lack of lottery and top 5 picks. Raymond will turn out excellent at 4th overall. Edvinsson is 6'6 and has potential to surpass Mo even, at 6th overall. Kasper, Danielson, Wallinder, Mazur, Sandin-Pellikka all may not have superstar potential but there's certainly foundation for a big fast and strong team with other potential booms in Lombardi and Buchelnikov. Very nice goalie prospects too. Future's looking optimistic for once and I think this team will surprise a lot of people within 5 years as this summer solidified the beginning of the exit of the rebuild

I think the reason is because the best part of his game is his incredible intelligence on the ice, which is not easily scooted as I imagine it does translate very often, couple that with the game getting faster and Robertson isn’t the fastest, Robo had a high likelihood of busting, but whether it because he’s just that good or he because of the many people that help players behind the scenes hired by Dallas, he has blossomed into a superstar, evidently this year marks his first all-star game. Hopefully, not his last.

Robertson has been and continues to be outstanding. As someone who organized Power Skating clinics..Robby Glantz International..in the 90’s..I have noticed that Robertson is not a power skater ..he is somewhat unorthodox in an era where most players coming into the league exhibit exceptional speed and power..maximizing their edging skills. Perhaps Robertson’s skating skills were less impressive to scouts upon seeing him play. His game is unique to him with an almost casual striding..and a seemingly effortless style to place himself and or generate opportunistic situations shift to shift.

Good video, the only thing id change is the fact that Robo only has 179 games played so far so although he projects as becoming a superstar, we never know that he wont slow down a little. And because of that, i feel like you don't give enough credit to others like Hischier, Pettersson and Thomas. Nico is getting close to having a point per game season, Thomas surpassed 1PPG last season and Petterssson can score 100, hes just had a bad season in an awful team. So i'd say NJ, COL, VAN and STL have nothing to regret. Other than that i agree
@Berubium
@Berubium Жыл бұрын
VAN has no regrets on Pettersson for sure, but given that Robertson was drafted as late as he was, that 2nd rounder (Lind) we took ahead of Pettersson sure looks bad now. Vancouver left Lind unprotected for the expansion draft, so if they did draft Robertson with that second round pick, they would still have to have been smart enough to protect him from the expansion draft.

You never know how they'll adapt to NHL, plus their so young some develop more than others, there's plenty of players that never get the chance to play, there's only so many spots to fill, there are players who might've blossomed into stars that never set foot on NHL ice, just like any sport.

The only claim you make against Colorado screwing up on this one, is that they had the first pick in R2 and picked Timmins. Who has...... well, yeah. Other than that, I don't think the Avs have any regret taking Makar, even with what Robertson is putting up. I think Makar is the player they needed at the right time, to fill what they needed most, and Robertson doesn't fit that anywhere near as much. Plus, as others have said, there is a chance that they don't develop him correctly. Nichushkin came from Dallas and was bought out of his contract to boot. Then comes to the Avs and just goes berserk in the Playoffs especially against Tampa. Every player is going to be unique in their situation, and Robertson may have just found where he needed to be to become what he has.

this video is basically just, “if people could see into the future, they would have picked this guy now”… i mean, i guess it sucks that people can’t see into the future lol literally every single player; past, present, and future; is 100% a gamble. you could have a kid that scores 10 points a game for his entire jr career, and when he finally makes it into the nhl, he could average 10 points a season for his entire nhl career. it’s also pretty pointless saying how dangerous a team would be if they had, “x, y, and z on their team now”, had they drafted those certain players instead. there are countless factors that go into how a player develops, so vegas getting robertson may have potentially stunted his growth as a player, and he could end up being a puljujarvi lol

Robertson fell because Kingston was really bad when he was there so he didn’t post nearly as many points as his talent showed. Kingston only had one other 20 goal scorer in his draft year.

Also seeing Lindstrom’s name one spot before Robertson is rough, I do still really like Gustav’s game though

Odd...Pettersson is 6 points behind Robertson, 3 less games played and on one of the worst teams.... Chytil has 32 points in 43 games Wtf?

Well now he's 3 points ahead of Robertson while playing 2 less games than him. This is why videos like these are made by completely bias fans of a particular team. These fans only care about their players and don't pay too much attention to other teams' players. They look at the stats at the time of other players and that's it. In terms of potential, non bias people can see that EP has more potential than Robertson (although Robertson is a great player and has a lot of potential). The video above was made when EP was trailing behind Robertson by 6 or more points 2 or 3 weeks ago. 2 or 3 weeks later, EP pulled ahead. To put 3 Dallas stars players in the superstars category and then completely snub EP while calling Chytil below average or average shows you how much the creator pays attention to other teams' players.

Vancouver would still take Petterson over Robertson. Have you watched Petey? Top 4 Players are Makar then Petey Heiskenen and Robertson is number 4.

imo Miro and Robertson are over Elias. Robertson has more points and it’s tough to find a top 10 d man

I think that's quite daring of you to say 99% would take Robertson over everyone, but Makar. Complete bias and made up percentage by you. Check the comments. EP is in the same category, perhaps even better than Robertson. Let's see what Robertson's numbers would be on a terrible Nucks team. I agree that Robertson might be the steal of the draft, but he's not necessarily even the 2nd best player in that draft. Also, EP is easily in the superstar category. Top 10 in scoring on a horrible Canucks team and is a great 2 way player. His teammates suck, but he doesn't.
