Вряд ли раньше Зеттерберга. Павел, по сути, сделал Хенрику карьеру. Но, учитывая политические моменты, не уверен, что бюрократы поступится лозунгами. Лично я жду, также и свитер под сводами Джо Луис Арены.

@Mike Missed that game {blackout}, though I will always remember when Shea Weber lined him up at the blueline. He was going to rock Pavel's world, and about a foot from completing the check, Datsyuk moved his body back a bit, then forward, and hit Weber in the mid-chest, stopping him cold...like a train hitting a car. Leverage & accuracy, that was Pavel Datsyuk's calling card...man, do I miss his game!

Absolutely the best two way player, and living in Michigan and seeing them Stanley cups along with great players like Sergei Fedorov, Pavel seriously made me forget about Sergei, they called him the magic man for a reason, and I could’ve cried when he retired,and should’ve already been in the Hall of Fame by now :(
@donpietruk1517
@donpietruk1517 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I still have a soft spot for Fedorov. His skill level is very very underappreciated today. He could play either like a power forward or like a first line center depending what you needed. Name another forward who started on defense for a prolonged part of the season because several key defensemen were injured like the Wings did in 1997? Red Kelly, who played D originally and converted to Center comes to mind. The 1993 season where Yzerman was injured for most of it Fedorov ups his production and finished 2nd in league scoring and wins the trifecta of the Hart, Selke and Pearson awards in the same year.

@@donpietruk1517 oh ya I’d never take way Fedorov’s skills and how important he was to the back 2 back cups in 97”& 98” as well as that team going from the Dead wings to Winning cups, I just meant Pavel stept in and picked up were Serge left off, like he said in his Hall of Fame address “ i’am a red wing in heart” truly a legend and a superstar :)

@@kennethsloboda4958 No doubt those guys loved playing in Detroit. A lot of Wings did especially the Russians but not only. There was a great Larry Murphy interview where he compared playing in Detroit to Toronto (for the notorious a-hole owner Harold Ballard). Where Pavel was better than Sergei was I think maneuvering in tight spaces. He found space where you thought none existed. He also may have had "softer" hands. There were times I was convinced the puck was attached to his stick by a string. Like he'd pull some next level Penn and Teller stuff. Lol.

Becoming a Redwings fan in the mid 70's, around the age of seven was some lean years. I also missed out on the era of Mr. Howe yet, knew from fans and replays of games who Mr. Hockey was. I lived forty-five minutes from Detroit and sadly never made it to the Joe. Then came Yzerman, WOW! The Russian five showed up, along with the talent put together by this storied franchise. Sergei Fedorov was the player I idolized most during those years, then Pavel Datsyuk appeared in a puff of smoke, like magic! It's the only Wings jersey I own, ever.

So glad I was able to witness his entire NHL career. Red Wings really had a long streak of awesome, really late draft picks. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom. I had the privilege of having season tickets, shared with my brother, during the Wings glory years. I saw Daytsuk live many many times. Seeing him do the things he did in real time is even more incredible than seeing it on film. You'd be looking at him and going "Did I just see what I think I saw?" He was an amazing two way player and as he grew older and stronger it became virtually impossible to remove him from the puck. I know he's regarded as a great defensive forward but I'll argue he still didn't get his full due on that because he often made spectacular plays look effortless. He had that rare quality of not only being aware of where the puck was but also of where it was going to be next. I would often see the opposing team shaking their heads in frustration after Daytsuk produced some on ice wizardry.

One of the big reasons for his creativity and awareness was that he played a lot of football (soccer) growing up. A lot of the skills he learned in that sport he translated to hockey. Also, according to his teammates, he would try crazy things in practice and practice a lot of those crazy moves so he could do them spur of the moment and full speed in games. He and Zetterberg were the best players on the team in their primes not just because they were incredibly talented but also because they were the hardest workers on the team.

The thing that always impressed me most about Pavel, and I got to see a ton of his early stuff at joe louis, was he wasn't the "superstar" mindset -- his was more of a team-based player. When you added him on the line with Hank Zetterberg and Brett Hull (the "two kids and an old goat" line,) you really saw all three of them break out in magical fashion with team-based skills. Such an amazing team.

Of all the non-generational talents the NHL has seen, he's at the top of my list. Just think, if you say "The Datsyuk", most hockey fans will know exactly what move you're talking about... Not even Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, Crosby, Ovi or McDavid had a move so amazing that they called it after their last name... He is The Magic Man, and perhaps the most complete hockey player ever.

Since you mentioned Sidney Crosby, I'll add this comment. A few months ago, one of the big hockey mags, was talking about nicknames (The Great One, Le Magnificque, The Magic Man) and dubbed Crosby the ultimate grinder, based on his play style. That current play style was developed as a side effect of playing Detroit in consecutive Stanley Cup Finals. Sid didn't play with that "grinder mentality" until the Pens had to face Datsyuk and the Wings in a best of seven series.

What comes around goes around. Back when sticks were straight the backhand was very important. Even in my youth we were drilled in backhand and even as a defenseman I scored a lot of backhand goals. But it was noticeable that the super curved sticks and powerful forehand shots were pushing the backhand out of popularity. This probably led to even more bias by goaltenders to watch less for it and that left an obvious vulnerability that is now being probed.

Wasn’t he one of the most sportsman-like players of his time too? Always clean in the rink?

How can they compile stats for eyes in the back of his head, or causing opposing players to 'Kronwall' each other?

Gilbert Perreault did the inside out moves before Gretzky era...so Lafleur, Lemieux, McKinnon ect all owe it to Perreault. But many would say Bobby Orr did the inside out moves back in his day, as a defense man skating the whole ice end to end. Back in a dat when defense only played defense. I love Datsyuk but yea that move has been around for 50 years lol

Detriot didn't have a fighter on the team to protect him or he would score much more an d could have played another 10 years.

Detroit won because they didn't waste roster spots on such useless nonsense.

I'm kind of like him in EASPORTSNHL 🤣 I use a playmaker build, which isn't big, but check suckas like crazy. I can score, but am better at setting up goals, in all seriousness.
