Great discussion guys, you covered quite a lot just awesome! 😊😊...my personal view - if you asked me 5ys ago if would even think about dating an Asian guy, I would have given you a weird look...but now after watching some Chinese dramas and movies, also my enjoyment of Chinese history. I gradually fell in love and that was before I even noticed any Korean K-pop or Kdrama. I love the chivalry that's portrayed in Asian men also their masculinity, emotional connectedness, leadership skills, intelligence, sensitivity, etc.....women so desire these qualities, and we are naturally wired up to want that, its nothing new, it's just south Korea found a way to attract global attention with these qualities. Good job Fung Bros on this video! I'm part Asian, am attracted to various types of guys, including Asian, White, etc. For me its about being attracted to the person, not so much about what happens to be a trend on the radar. That being said, I agree that K-Pop dramas has opened up a venue for many women who may have been open to Asian men, but were not inclined to say so or pursue them. Its also opened up the lines for Asian men to be acknowledged to accept and be involved with other women besides Asians. This being said, if you happen to not be interested in K-Pop type men, or Asian males, that's fine too- don't feel like because your friends are into it, that you have to be too. One negative aspect of K-Pop (including both the dramas, and especially music) is the constant goals of achieving high standards in physical appearance. I think many here are aware of this negative consequence. It can become an obsession, especially for the K-Pop stars themselves, and for those who follow them. This not only goes for the K-Pop females, but the men as well. We've heard the stories of continual plastic surgeries amongst K-Pop stars, and this encourages impossible standards of beauty for Korean culture, as well as its influence on other cultures (particularly in Asia). The obsession with being slender can be dangerous as well. I'm not going to be politically correct here, but personally, while I like the male Korean pop stars, some of them really look too fake, and even a bit too feminine (result from surgery and use of make-up). I like a slightly feminine look for males, but with K-Pop it can be a bit over the top, just saying. It can have a bad influence on young men, as they feel they need surgery and make-up to compete with pop idols, not a good thing for society. Interesting topic!

I am an italian girl living in Seoul. Since 2015 i started to travel and then live in Korea. The thing is ,at least in my case i started to feel attraction for asian guys ( their features ? dunno ) when i was a teenager. Just happened out of blue and honestly is something you can' t control just it is your preference(?) and not a fetish. Thank you for the discussion, and enjoy the educational content. I don't usually comment, but I wanted to share some thoughts based on some of the statements/observations as I listened. There is not meant to be an argument, just a few thoughts to consider. I think there are a lot of general statements made here. What do we mean by globe? It should be defined here (i.e., in Africa(*54 countries), the Americas, and other parts of the world, women are pleased dating their men, white men, or /and other ethnic men, including Asians, and in Europe and there is also a lot of interracial dating with other ethnic men). Also, when we mean women are "flocking" to Korea to date, we are missing a significant global population (i.e., Black diaspora women, Latin women, indigenous populations, the list goes on)of the world that are not necessarily engaging in this "trend." They may be a few but not the majority. They may be going there for other reasons that do not involve the "desire" to marry a Korean man(*but they could be open to it). The argument is very linear and not expansive in its analysis. I think the conversation is mainly centered around western white women and specific Korean men engaging in relationships. "Many Korean men are also very traditional and want to marry other Korean women"(open to correction--this is statement is based some the interracial research work being conducted). This discussion around white women/men and dating other races is not new. The wave is extending the conversation, but (i.e., we have had white women and black men, white women, and Latin men. The wave has and is happening across all the races with white women ). It's been around forever. I would say it is partially whiteness and Fetishization The reality is people should date whoever they choose, but making such a generalization about the rest of the world is not a fair argument. Asian men, like any other men, are wonderful humans/people and don't need a trend to diversify and strengthen their dating pool of mates. The opportunity to find love in a mutually respectful way exists; they must take it and challenge the norm if they choose.The world is changing and globalization/technology is bringing people together. :)

As a Korean guy who grew up in Seoul, I have to say, Korean culture is extremely masculine. I married a Chinese woman, and she tells me that Korean culture is extremely masculine. Korean men for generations have been comparing how difficult their military experience was with each other for example, who suffered more, whose training was toughest, etc. Korea is also very conservative/traditional. There’s still very much a perception that men should be responsible for providing. Yes there is also a lot of toxic masculinity, but there is also real masculinity. Another sign of conservative values in Korea is for example, grandmas will stop you on the street for being too touchy with your girlfriend/wife. There are definitely still strong social expectations on what a man and a woman should or shouldn’t do. It’s also incredibly ageist, meaning the older you are, the higher up you are in the Korean hierarchy. The younger you are, the more you must behave in a submissive and well-mannered manner, at least outwardly. So I’m guessing, with the masculine-oriented culture, the conservative values, and the outwardly polite demeanor that Korean men grow up under, they have become more attractive globally. My wife was attracted to my spiritual aspect she said, which is defienitely something I consider a core part of my identity. So if you have some deep passion for Jesus or a value system, it is also very attractive. Hope this helps! Btw, lots of Chinese men who are incredibly devoted husbands. You will find gems in every culture.

@@klaymoon1 being gentle is actually an underrated quality because it means you have a handle on your emotions no matter what happens. That’s a sign of masculinity that women find attractive. Having clear goals and a clear plan to achieve them, as well as a positive energy from actively pursuing those goals will get you to be more attractive. I’m only 173cm. I’ve dated models, beautiful girls-it’s about your confidence and aura. Remember, the key is: The less you need them, the more powerful you will be. Build your life to a place and position where you ACTUALLY don’t need a beautiful woman to make you happy. Then you will find dating a lot easier:)

And I just used Chinese as an example for being better looking than Korean, obviously not all Chinese. Does any Korean drama have Chinese culture in them? If they do, then they’re copying from the Chinese 😂. Also, as an anime fan from the states, Chinese anime has gotten way more popular than Korean anime. You shouldn’t make it so apparent that you’re coping rn. Koreans focus so much on looks with all their products and they still get outdone by the Chinese who don’t even care.

Little DISCLAIMER: I'm an italian girl, studying Korean and Japanese at university. I'm single - I dated a Korean boy once for short time, sadly didnt work, and to be precise he was not respecting the beauty standards of Asian men which you talked about // That said, I started to get into Korean culture through Art, since I am a self taught digital artist and my favorite concept artists are korean. At first I had little to no interest in that, and before that I never dated any asian man in general, because I never looked for one (they are also hard to approach, let's say that). Now, because I am so invested into this culture, much more than Japanese that I also study, I must say I'm more naturally dragged towards a korean man than any other. The charm of the background and some physical characteristics - sure in common with some other east asian men - interest me more than for example some from Latin America, that I do not study or care about much. Despite this, I only had white boyfriends. I feel sometimes guilty, my friends and sometimes my parents ask me why I like them. As I mentioned I have no body type, but my attraction goes toward a precise "stereotype": a nerd guy - as I am too - and probably with glasses; Im not into fashion, I don't really get attraction towards guys who are too much into gym. As I am reminded, I like the typical standard stereotype of asian man, anonymus and geek. Can I control this attraction? No, it is just my type, but despite all this as I said I never had a relationship with one of them. Attraction and seeking for one is different, and I cannot just adjust to a guy for being Korean/East Asian. I may find a guy my type, and suddenly his behavior terrible - that would lead me to cut immediately anything, as first thing for me is physical attraction (I'm not hypocrite) but as soon as his behavior shows something I cannot adapt to, I quit. The end of my experience as white girl is, I notice that are much more the girls going to teach English or model who represent the "koreaboo" you are describing, more than the ones that study about the the language, the literature, the history, geography and any side of the culture. Those girls, if you see, totally adapt to the beauty standard, do make up exactly like in Kdrama, do plastic procedures to look as the korean ideal, and very often they cannot speak korean previous their going to Korea, nor studied Korean at university.. But in the end I think it is even too much to point at those people for having a type. You can call it a fetish, but for the same reason then we could say a man with a preference towards skinny girl could be also a fetish. I dont know, the topic is too hard to have a proper answer.

Recently dated a few ladies from my mother country and I must say, some of the topics are easier to talk about such as heritage, respect and etc. more of a culture aware, having said that I got nothing bad to say about any of my past relationships since they not only treat me but my family with upmost respect. Well, a lot of western women who are not considered attractive in their home countries are considered attractive in South Korea or other east asian countries like JP and CN. This is also a reason they want to find a Korean husband. People will always fall in love with the people who value them. It's just like a lot of east asian women that are not considered attractive in Korea go to the west for love. We have different beauty standards. Western people always say that everyone is beautiful. I started watching k-dramas in 2020 & have been addicted ever since. The Korean men in the dramas are absolutely gorgeous! The men are portrayed as very attractive, well-groomed, polite GENTLEMEN that aren’t sexually aggressive. Average Korean guys might not look like most drama stars, but based on street interviews & KZbin channels, some of the guys are still very attractive. Definitely a different image of Asian men than what’s portrayed in western media. I actually watch C-dramas, J-dramas & SE Asian dramas now. So I think the actors & idols popularity has a positive effect on western women’s view of Asian men in general. Based on live chats, forums & comments sections of anything related to Korean men, there is definitely an increase in curiosity towards them.

I actually plan to travel to South Korea. Not for dating specifically. But because I'm interested in the culture, food, their reality tv shows fit my humor style. Maybe because I grew up watching them. I'm not a kpop stan and don't watch kdramas. And I would love to live in a country with great public transportation, more modern than mine and a strong night life and also a lot of cute cafes and fun places to visit. I'm sorry but this is a freighteningly narcissistic sociopathic trait for such pursuits of labeling/stereotyping groups to this degree. It's a symptom of viewing others as 2-dimensional caricatures. In the end, I realized I escaped with my life and defeated her goal. It costed me everything. But I'm alive. So, my advice to anyone encountering the 'foreigner' with an Asian partner fetish, look this gift horse in the mouth. Be skeptical, cautious, and don't take this relationship as seriously. Take everything he/she proclaims with a grain of salt. There may be hidden agendas, and consequences if you don't live up to to her expectations. They blame you for destroying their reality, their dream.

I’m Korean American, born in Korea. I asked my dad if he would like it if I married Korean. He said it’s not pushed but if I did, he recommend that I didn’t get with a Korean man from Korea.
