After living in the US for more than 55 years, I am planning my retirement in Hong Kong or, perhaps, the GBS in China. HK is certainly a safe and vibrant town, more so than the DC area, or any large metro area in the US.

Hong Kong and China's destinies are tied together as Hong Kong was the gate to China from 1980 to 2010. If China is going down, it will bring Hong Kong down as well. SEA is the hub for development in the next 20-30 years so Hong Kong should invest more in this region.

The Sino-British Joint Declaration, a treaty between the governments of the United Kingdom and People's Republic of China signed in 1984 sealed the fate of Hong Kong way before the surrendered of British Hong Kong on July 1, 1997. Hong Kong is an island and a district part of the PRC, it ain't going anywhere. The British Canto Hong Kongers on the other hand, they're bugging out and getting the FUCK out of Dodge, because of the Hong Kong’s national security law. The Hong Kong Basic Law ensured that Hong Kong will retain its capitalist economic system and own currency (the Hong Kong dollar), legal system, legislative system, and same human rights and freedoms, as a special administrative region (SAR) of China for 50 years, IT'S ALL BULLSHIT.

Difficult topic. Trigger warning:I have a genuine sincere question. Maybe it's easier to ask here, and someone will point to how where it is accurately explained. What is the current reality of the "unaliving yourself" being acceptable in the culture in Japan? How are people really raised to think of it and is there a "talk" about it like how sex ed is taught to young people. This is a sincere question. Not trying to offend anyone. Just want to understand reality in 2025 before traveling there.

In the next 5-7 years BKK may be on par to Singapore because most metro lines will be completely built. There is a mix of developed and underdeveloped areas right now. Also, those underground power line projects were started 5-6 years ago by an unelected government, however it will take years to complete. Politicians just can't get the job done because they're so corrupted. I can tell you that no other countries in the world will allow Chinese immigrants to thrive and integrate so well into society like Thailand did. Unlike Malaysia or Indonesia, Thai chinese can have the same equal rights to the local on everything, including politics. That's why Thailand has the most overseas chinese in the world. Thais also don't need any westerners to teach them on racism or LGBTQ rights. They respect everyone as long as you respect their culture.

Thank you for the amazing videos, you guys are awesome! Stay safe out there! Thailand truly has such a unique culture and vibe. Fun fact: Thai, part of the Tai linguistic family, has roots in southern China and is closely related to Zhuang the second largest ethnic group in China after the Han. The Proto-Tai core lexicon is believed to be 60-70% derived from Old Chinese. Beneath the vibrant Buddhist traditions of Thailand, native Tai customs persist, influenced by Hua Xia culture. -Ser Muang (พระเสื้อเมือง) derives from the Hua Xia term Ser (社), meaning ancestral shrines, which are common across Bangkok. The Tai people have long practiced ancestor worship, believing ancestors become protective spirits, much like patron saints, a tradition dating back to China’s Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B.C.). Similarly, Lak Muong, or city pillars, are found throughout Bangkok and are thought to house guardian spirits. -Liang Tay Liang Taen, the worship of the gods Tay and Taen, is an ancient Tai-Thai practice with roots in the Zhou Dynasty. Linked to Tien Di (天帝) and Tay Yi (太一), sacrifices are offered annually during the lunar months of Jieng (เจียง) or Yee (ยี่). This is also called len jieng len yee, celebrating the January and February Festival. -The spoken languages of Wu (句吳) and Yue (於越) during the Spring and Autumn Period are thought to be related to proto-Kra-Dai. The “Song of the Yue Boatman” (越人歌), widely recognized the earliest “translated” poem in Chinese history, was deciphered using Zhuang and Thai.

I'm a Fil-Am woman and I identify as Asian. My brother who is also Fil-Am identifies as Pacific Islander.
@joodeki
@joodeki 5 сағат бұрын
Your brother is a culture thief. There are only 2.4 million Pacific Islanders in the world and HALF of that population is Black (Melanesians). Your brother is not Micronesian, Polynesian, or Melanesian, so he shouldn't be claiming Pacific islander at all, hence why he's a culture thief. Speaking of culture, Pacific Islanders don't have bamboo dance culture, they don't have the same cultural weapon (kris-wavy dagger) as us Southeast Asians, they did NOT farm or eat rice traditionally, they didn't have a writing system, they didn't have rice terraces, they didn't have those Asian cone-shaped hats that we Filipino call "native hat" (Salakot). But, every other Asian has all those things I just mentioned. Even Indian and Chinese cultures have bamboo dance, you can look up the Chinese ones by searching Chinese bamboo dance on youtube, and you can look up "Cheraw dance" on youtube for the Indian version. And if you want, you can show your brother "Singkil", which is a pre-colonial bamboo dance and ask him if they look anything like the Samoans he's trying to relate to. Most of Southeast Asia consider the kris as their cultural weapon, the Pacific Islanders don't have this type of weapon. The Pacific Islanders, again, did not have rice. And you might say, so what? It's just plain old white rice. Well, that rice leads to rice cakes, which we Asians have 1000s in variety and that is a big part of our culture. That also leads to rice terraces, which even the Japanese and Indians have. And the cone shaped hats, Pacific Islanders don't have that culture... Look up Salakot's wiki page and ask your brother if that culture is "Pacific Islander". Like, do I really need to share more Asian things that WE Filipino have had for thousands of years to prove my point that your brother is a culture thief? You can defend your brother if you want to, but to the Filipino from the Philippines like me and to the PACIFIC ISLANDERS HE IS STEALING FROM, he's a culture thief. Your brother wants one thing, he wants to avoid Asian stereotypes by stealing a cultural identity of a group of people that have 1% ONE PERCENT of our population (2% if we include the Melanesians). Does this sound like something you Filipino-Americans should really be supporting? Like, do you all even think that maybe you should all listen to the REAL Pacific Islanders that are telling you you're Asian? I have talked to so many Fil-Ams in these type of videos and two things stood out to me, the first is that MANY Fil-Ams don't know anything about Pacific Islanders other than Samoans/Hawaiians/Maori, like they didn't even know Melanesians existed. The second is that a lot of Fil-Ams don't know anything about Filipino history or culture, y'all don't even understand that 1/3 of our population has direct Chinese ancestry. The Ifugao that your brother would probably use as evidence for the "similarity in culture" with Samoans, the Ifugao that became famous for their "tattooing culture" that a lot of Fil-Ams in the comment has used to relate to Samoan "tattoo". Those Ifugao that has a RICE TERRACE CULTURE, they came from Southern China, and the tattooing method they use is similar to Southern Chinese. He's your brother, I am a stranger with a long comment you did not ask for, but if you read/didn't read that but you still want to be mad at me for calling your brother a culture thief then I'm sorry, but you Fil-Ams seriously know nothing about Filipino culture if y'all think that Filipino culture is anything remotely similar to Polynesian or Micronesian, and ESPECIALLY Melanesian.

I grew up with Asian parents but both remarried outside their culture which made growing up really interesting/confusing and still does sometimes. My mother was a huge tiger mom and disowned me for a while because I wanted to study art despite being enrolled in extra curricular art classes and taking AP Art in high school. Later on after remarrying, she would call me everyday when I was working in luxury retail/e-commerce, asking me if I had quit yet, and then slowly softened after seeing my stepfather's parenting (he's German). My father was quite relaxed until recently, his parenting style is contradictory all the time as he moved to the States in his teens, and likes individualism but was brought up in China as a kid. He will often tell me to pursue what makes me happy but then spends his other half of the time comparing me to all the white people in my family saying how they are better than me and earn more than me. He almost seems to have internalised racism, favouring the white people in our family over us, even though my sister earns significantly more than them. He never speaks highly of his own children and refuses to, but speaks highly of his stepchildren. I've been told that I should never be proud of myself because there will always be someone more successful than me. 😅 Any way, I'm a fashion designer who doesn't earn as much as others in my family, and I have just accepted it and limited my contact as all I hear about is how much money I make everytime I return home. I'm married and live in another country happily.

Im a staunch conservative first generation asian. Im in my mid 40s and i have to say your perspective appears to be alot more “woke” younger gen mindset. Conservatives dont sweep racism under the rug. We just have alot of things that are more concerning. Ive never had a white conservative try to dismiss the racism issue however i have had African americans dismiss the mis treatment of asians. Every american is mistreated somehow or in some way regardless of their race. Race can always be used as an excuse for mistreatment but often times its based off wealth, appearance, or other factors.
