I'd be interested to hear your opinion on the Scholar's Mate. I just learned about it the other day and I'm considering the pros and cons of it. pros: 1. It's incredibly cheeky, just my style 2. Free Elo (Although that's like saying "free monopoly money"; sure it looks nice, but unless I'm going for a title -in which case this tactic is unlikely to work-, relatively meaningless unless I want tougher opponents in ranked) 3. a nice quick lesson for my opponent 4. which way they chose to counter me, if I don't win with it, could be useful for getting into their head. cons: 1. Very easy to counter if you see it before the final move 2. More importantly, countering costs me tempo in most cases 3. Generally only works once against a given opponent, unless they are forgetful for one reason or another
