I’m having a fair amount of trouble with the planter, but it’s only happening after dark. What the heck is going on???

It could be your batteries getting weak. I've seen that happen where more power is going to charging batteries and taking away from the equipment so when you turn things on the batteries draw down. It may not show on the screens. Praying you have a successful growing season. Stay safe and God bless.

Time to load test your batteries. Probably need replacing. Better to replace then put the extra stress on your alternator, damaging it or shortening the life. (Speaking from experience of ruining an alternator when I did not realize the battery was getting bad. Battery much much cheaper than alternator.).

I used to plant with 6 volt lights. 2 front lights and 1 on the rear. Just a little brighter than a candle. 🤗🤗🤗

Farming Fixing Fabricating has a video on the same planter and the same problem. He had to install a PTO mounted generator to operate the planter.

This old man from Canada sure enjoys your videos. Love the end part with the young lady and you measuring off distance. A awesome, enjoyable video, thanks so much.

What a beautiful little girl. How about going on Amazon and buying a couple of 12volt LED spotlights for the tractor? They use WAY less power than conventional headlights.

I am glad that 2022 planting season is complete for you. Here in ohio it June 3rd and there are alot of fields still not planted and you can feel the tension in the air. It almost like the ever one is in panic mode here.

I have a 5 meter all metric tape measure that I bought from DuckWorks when I was building sailing dinghy from plans that were metric. I found that I needed the metric measure on BOTH edges of the tape unless I wanted a lot of extra figuring. We definitely resist going metric very strongly in the US and along with Liberia are the last holdouts on the entire planet.

It’s so handy! Still I don’t think I could give up my feet and inches 😂
@jerrymiller2762 жыл бұрын
@@dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206 Me, too! When someone uses metric I find myself trying to do the conversions to inches, feet, or miles in my head, inaccurately, of course, but close enough for government work. Growing up metric-less, I just don't have a very good grasp of those pesky meters, so I end up multiplying by three in my head, then adding a "fudge factor" for the extra few inches a meter has above a yard. I suppose it really doesn't matter for day to day life, because most americans, me included, couldn't tell you with any accuracy how far 60 yards is without measuring anyway. That is likely because I learned to think in those english units and don't have the constant metric equivalent reminders all around me to learn to be bi-mathmatical any more than three years of highschool spanish made me bi-lingual. But when I was building the boat it was super easy because EVERYTHING was only in metric, including my measuring tools. It was great because I didn't have to try to figure out which 1/32 inch mark is the correct one to use. Measurements at a glance, with fewer, or actually in this case no, errors. My Lufkin 19mm (3/4 inch) X 5m (16 ft) measuring tape is a joy to use. It felt like getting away with cheating.

Might be time to add a pto driven alternator for the planter. It seems most bigger planters have them. Not sure but just something to look into carl thanks for the great video

I just had to replace my old alternator in my pickup. It kept showing less and less voltage output as it was failing. Had to run higher RPM to keep voltage up. Read that as alternators fail they may put out less voltage until zero one day. Also replaced with higher amp alternator.

Batteries are only good for about 5 years if they've been in there that long it might be due for some new ones.
@dodgebrothersfarmandranch92062 жыл бұрын
Yeah but these batteries are fairly new and I’m getting 14 volts on the tractor screen. Just pulling way too many amps when I’m planting at that high speed.

If anybody tries to give you any grief about your and my attitude about the metric system, just remember that there are basically two types of countries in the world.... those that use the metric system and..... those that have walked on the moon....!!!

I got to ask, not actually knowing. Why are the seeds green? I assume it is because of some sort of fertilizer, but I don't know. Seems like my pawpaw seed did not have the green color, granted that was in 1971, and I was 4.
@dodgebrothersfarmandranch92062 жыл бұрын
Great question Steve! The color on the seeds is a special coating to prevent fungus and disease. It really gives the seedling a good head start 👍

How is 5309 mm a thousands of an acre? 5309mm is 17.41 feet it's a measure of length not area.
@dodgebrothersfarmandranch92062 жыл бұрын
We plant our corn in 30 inch rows so one row covers the width of 30 inches. 17.4 feet long by 30 inches wide is 1/1000 of an acre.

ALSO.. before you get a buck boost, clean and care for all the grounds, that can cause high current due to poor DC.

Would replacing tractor lights with LEDs help.
@dodgebrothersfarmandranch92062 жыл бұрын
It would help but not enough. As we keep adding more tech to the planter we are going to need a separate alternator on there to provide more amps

You need a buck bost converter. It's basically a switch mode power supply that (regardless of battery level) keeps your planter voltage at a precise level. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC-to-DC_converter
