Me too! Any citizen of the UK, USA, or Canada is more challenging to visit. The visa application process can take a long time - can be frustrating too - & sometimes, the application can get rejected after a long wait. You must be on a certified guided tour, either as a group or solo, at all times; personally, I like to travel independently.

Many years ago I have traveled through Iran twice and had the plan to revisit it with my wife. A country with a rich history, important literature, educated population and historical places to visit. We like the food too, but..... my wife would never cover her head in public with exceptions of visiting religious (any religion) places. So our plans were cancelled. Just recently we checked Iran, because of its beautiful Persian history(ex: we wanted to go to the ruins of Persepolis) - we ended up not going because we were very worried about our mother, the stories about women that were caught without hijab, even foreigners were very scary. We ended up going to Egypt, which was very tolerant on this topic. I still very much wish to visit Iran one day

I'm a US citizen and I went to Iran in 2017 during the beginning of the Trump presidency and the "Muslim ban". I LOVED it. I found the following to be true based on my lived experience: 1. Many many people speak English, especially younger people, making it easy to chat with locals. 2. People were extremely friendly and became even friendlier and more interested in me when they realized I was from the US. The good thing about a country like Iran is that you are treated as a GUEST, and will have the chance to easily make friends, eat in people's homes, explore the country with locals who are shockingly generous with time and resources, and have a depth of experience not available in less hospitable and more well-travelled countries. 3. People around 40 and younger, especially in big cities, are often not particularly religious and generally dislike or outright despise their government and expressed it openly to me. Many people are also deists, agnostic or atheist, and do not identify as Muslim. This is not a slight against Islam, I'm just trying to explain something that for many people outside of Iran is unexpected. 4. Plenty of people smoke weed, drink alcohol, have sex, and live lifestyles relatively familiar to other globalized youth, although these are typically going to be in bigger cities and at least middle/upper-middle classes. Iran is a bit like the US in the early 60s; there are plenty of conservative nationalistic folks still, but the tide is definitely in the process of turning, especially among younger generations. In short, you absolutely can party in Iran and would have no problem accessing drugs and alcohol should you be willing to take a moderate risk. It is COMMONPLACE. 5. People who are religious, part of the clerical establishment or government, and Basiji forces differentiate between American citizens and the US government's foreign policy. Imams, police, and basiji forces were chatty and friendly with me at all times. They understood that I was just a tourist and appreciated my interest in Iranian culture and history. I never felt that I was in danger at all, even at a point when there was significant tension between our governments. 6. Iran is absolutely worth visiting for what is, in my opinion, the best and most lavishly opulent architecture in the world. Persian architecture and art in general is jaw dropping in its luxuriousness and extreme detail and precision. You CANNOT see architecture like this outside of the Persianate world, and it is the too often uncredited source of much of the architectural, musical, and cultural norms found throughout the islamic world from north India, Western China, all the way to Spain. In fact, much of what gets labeled 'Islamic' is ultimately Iranian in origin.

Our ministry of foreign affairs is guiding not to go to Iran, because of that flight companies don't arrange flights. So if I want to spend holidays somewhere its easier and cheaper to go to Turkey, Saudi or Egypt at the moment. I think its politics. US dictates our foreign policies. I don't understand why the young men interviewed say that the food isn't as good as elsewhere. On the contrary, I find it very good and healthy. As for driving, all the countries of the South drive badly and are generally not very 'civic-minded' about it. As far as pollution is concerned, Cairo is worse, even though it's very popular. Naples in Italy is an open-air incinerator, with poor drivers and theft, but plenty of tourists

Here is a suggestion for one of your future videos.. Ask Iranians what do they think of India versus Pakistan ? Which country do they prefer and why? I'm half Iranian. When I visited Iran with my non-Iranian mother she was sometimes treated very badly by people, including once a woman came into her face to pull her hijab. Another time my mother was sick in Kish because of the extreme heat and was closing her eyes for a bit - some of her hair was showing, so a man came and poked her and aggressively told her to cover all her head with her hijab. My mom doesn't want to ever go back to Iran, unfortunately.

I find your story hard to believe. The vast majority of Iranians are against hijab and will never tell another person about the state of their clothes. There is hijab police that sometimes operate and make a nuisance of themselves and people hate them. Maybe you were unlucky and met them?!

I'd like to visit Iran so bad. It is definitely an unspoilt gem, a diamond in the rough. It may be one of the most exciting destinations in the world. But there are few but important issues that scare the tourists. First, because of the sanctions, our credit or debit cards don't work in Iran so we have to take all our money in cash (and exchange there). Second, there is an obvious bad press about Iran abroad and foreigners may think it is unsafe. Iranian hospitality is world-famous and every foreign traveller just says good things about your country. But the fact is that there are strict rules that, if a lot of Iranians just don't understand, imagine the people from different cultures with different liberties. The situation of human rights in Iran (freedom of speech, strict codes of behavior in public, mandatory hijab everywhere, death penalty for LGBT people) is scary and humiliating. As always, we have to make a difference between the people and their government or regime (just like with other "controversial" countries with a lot of love and hate like the US, Russia or Israel). Of course North America and Europe are not goody-goody, we have mistakes and a responsibility with a lot of conflicts in the world, but I don't think our media is giving a fake idea of what Iran is like. I think it is just an incomplete one. Because they hardly ever talk about the Iranian society and customs, how welcoming you are or how safe it is if you respect the rules. There are a lot of countries with no liberties and strict rules that have more tourists than Iran. Maybe it needs to develope more its tourism industry and above all, have no sanctions!!! Regards and love from Spain 🇪🇸 and all my support for all Iranian women and men fighting for their country bravely. See you there soon, I hope. I can't wait to become an ambassador of Iran for Spanish tourists. You deserve the best
