KL to me is like Singapore but a lot cheaper. Probably one of my most favourite affordable cities in Asia and I’ve been to all of them from Tokyo down to Singapore. KL besides the affordability factor has a certain small city charm, but big city vibes, the fact that English is widely spoke doesn’t hurt, a hold over from their British colonial days. In a nutshell I’d take KL any day over Bangkok.

I'd rather live in KL than BKK. The language, the people (Thai people are friendly too), the food, the cleanliness, and the place I will move to, TRX Exchange, has first-world infrastructure. BKK is too chaotic for me; the Grab service isn't reliable, the traffic is insane, the thousands of cables on the streets are all tangled up and all over the place, and they hardly speak English. I'd visit BKK, but I wouldn't make it my home.

I spent a month in Malaysia; KL, Penang and Kuching (Sarawak.) I loved the place. Loved the food, the people, cleanliness, English speakers, and all the rest of it. I loved it so much that I applied for the long term visa in Malaysia. Then, I started to watch some videos about Thailand. Videos were all nice. I planned a one month trip to Thailand. I was thinking about settling in Thailand instead. I'm writing this message from Hua Hin. Sorry to say this, but compared to Malaysia I find this place to be a hell hole. Not clean, too much of negative vibe. Too much sex trade, it's pathetic. I don't find the people to be friendly at all; just give me you money type of deal. I haven't found the food to be half as good as Malaysia or even Indonesia for that matter. To be honest, if my airline would co-operate, I'm thinking about spending the rest of my trip in Malaysia.

I work in Spore. I drive up to Msia for food, at least once every week. I ve been to Thailand 6 times, mostly around Chiang Mai (mostly on mission). I love Thai food, but it is nothing like the ethnic variety and depth like in Msia. As for friendliness, while Thai smiles are famous, I prefer the Msian simplicity, probably cos the people are materially more content. I especially love to see the harmonious mixing of cultures of major ethnic groups, unique to Msia. I love Thailand. But hv zero desire to travel to Thailand for holidays.

Very nice video. I like the way you positioned yourself off center and it came off very natural like we just stumbled into you on the street and had a nice conversation. I’ve been watching you since you arrived in Thailand and stayed at the quarantine hotel in Bangkok and always enjoy your videos. With this latest video though I notice better and better techniques. It’s impressive how much you’ve learned. We spent two weeks in KL last winter and liked it but really missed Thai food. We’re in Chiang Mai right now for a month and really like it here. We’re retired and enjoy traveling around mostly Thailand for several months each winter except for border runs but still keep our small house in the Adirondacks in upstate NY. We may check out Jomtien next month after watching your videos.

Still, i thinkMsian food is of no less quality, and is unmatched in the richness and depth, reflecting the mix of ethnicity and cultures. Juz my opinion. Most of March this year is the Muslim fasting month. Some Muslim F&B places close during the day & open just before sunset/breaking fast. Or they close their places for the full month & do biz at Ramadan bazaars/pavements all over the city 🌃 Things get chaotic close to sunset because people going back after work + people looking for food to buy for breaking fast. Hotels & restaurants do breaking fast buffets 🌃 Other food places open as usual.

If you are trying to get away from the smog/haze, unfortunately Malaysia and SIngapore are usually affected as well, as it is usually during the South-West wind season. Maybe it is of lesser intensity due to less base air pollution index to start with. KL is more of a family oriented city. So wild activities for singles are much less although still available in certain areas.

I'm leaving on 10 Feb for 5 weeks to get out of the smoke, going to the Philippines. I'm skeptical of KL as an antidote to the smoke, although I'm guessing, never been there. But I did live in Singapore for 4 years, plenty of smoke there. I don't know how Singapore can be smokey, Bangkok can be smokey but KL not? How would that work?

Because Singapore gets the smoke from Indonesian and KL is much north whereas Thailand has its own burning season.

Singapore and kl is affected by indonesia's non stop burning since 1997. There are lesser now with jokowi as president. But he is stepping down. They burn sumatra and kalimantan. So if the wind blows here , definitely kl will be affected.

I live in Malaysia and I have been here for 5 years. I use it as a home base as I have the 10 year mm2h visa. I am grandfathered in to the old rules so I will keep the visa. No reporting and easy access in and out of the country. No talk of taxing global income yet. Can be uptight in certain regions as it does have some extremists. In general, I find the food better in thailand than malaysia. Less beautiful women here in Malaysia. KL is a great city and hotel prices are usually much lower here than in bkk which is becoming expensive, but not crazy. I think, in general, seafood is better in Thailand. Best food here, imo, is the indian food. I know a few good chinese restaurants but it is hit or miss. Malay food is not quite healthy but it is inexpensive and the malay people are usually friendly, but do not want to be your friend. Right now malays are boycotting almost all western food places as if they are supporting the war. craziness, but i can always get a seat. Not many good thai restaurants in malaysia. Rarely see roti in Thailand. Wish more malaysians knew how to cook eggs. Langkawi is a nice place if you like the beach or eastern malaysia or the east coast of peninsular malaysia. It is a muslim country so you always need to be alert concerning dress, alcohol and pork in certain locations. Just this week Thailand finally found a way to give me the LTR visa in the penang consulate. I hope it works. I think that your housing is better here than in Thailand. Many places have full facilities. If your son wants a visa then if you have mm2h he can get one until 35. It really depends on what makes you happy. I like hearing massa massa for a few weeks and seeing beauties then thailand is the place. Malaysia is less crazy and usually better facilities. Both are great places! I make good income and savings just living in Malaysia. Thanks for the video.

Well they have sharia law. I've heard that tourists had been taken to police station and beaten with sticks because they were too drunken publicly - and before I went there 2 girls had been beaten with sticks 19 x each for kissing in a car. Not that I planned to kiss girls - I was there on a stop over and to overcome jetlag on my way to Australia. On my way back I was in a rainforest and on the beach on 2 different locations. The first was packed with local families - all the woman dressed in black tanquinies from bottom to top. And then me white with bikini - no- I felt I at least have to top with a big T-shirt. It was a massage place - but it written: not allowed for Muslims. Imagine you cant take a massage at the beach if you want to - in your own country. In the other hotel I had to move to another room because I wanted a glass of wine to my food. In KL I went on a hopponoff bus - but it was tons off cars - it felt really polluted - so you where lucky. I did just see a few people seem like alcoholics - but I see several young people with plastic bags sniffing glue. It's probably not a forbidden sharia thing. I agree - people where friendly and unlike many other muslim countries you see lot's of woman on the streets. But I felt the sharia " lurking under the surface" Felt much more free and happy in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and even Cambodia
