A 29 spline 8.25 with 33s even 35s can handle some good abuse. With a rear disc brake conversion you can keep the axle from shooting out if it does break. This channel proves the capabilities of xjs without tons and tires pretty well. No need to spend 10k on axles that add a lot of weight and resistance for a stock 4.0.
@dexjs11 ай бұрын
That’s my goal to prove that point. Cheap easy fun.

Ya'll ever seen A factory track bar bracket cause death wobble? I got my engine installed plus the front bumper winch and Barnes steering gearbox brace and now i can't even get over 50 mph without it going nuts. It's got a 5in re lift and trailforged crossover heim joints steering kit and it happened all of a sudden. It's all new within 2100 miles. It never did it till the engine got installed and those sold motor mounts put in. I'm a mobile tech every day and I'm freaking tired of working on my rig. Nothing has real play in it but i think i can see the trackbar mount flex while having someone turn my steering wheel. Gonna figure out how to measure it and see i guess.

Why wouldn't u use a 1st generation liberty 8.25 for a wj? Has same upper triangle, disk. Lug pattern. And a ford kinda yoke- drive shaft flange = no u joint trapped. Just wondering

I’ll tell ya my 96 Dakota sport with a 318 magnum and a nv3500 she was regular cab short bed 4x4 had a 8.25 with 3.21 gears burning her off one day I grabbed 2nd and stripped all the teeth right out of the spider gears welded her solid a year later articulating hard in some big dry mud holes in 4hi it broke the axle shaft right where the c clip goes splines we’re perfectly in tact being young and dumb I filled the entire thing with weld on both sides and could not replace the shaft and never could find a 3.21 8.25 so I sold it regretted it ever since have a 98 5speed 318 4x4 now and it has 9.25 front and rear with 3.92 gears got some 31 10.50 15s mudders on her with a 10 wide steel wheel she looks good same exact wheel set up I was running on the 96 I like jeeps as well just pretty die hard Dakota guy 😂😂

What diffs would you recommend if one was sasing a 2000 s10 blazer. 35-37 tire
@TexasRedneck11 ай бұрын
would depend on terrain and how you drive. To me, a 37" tire is right on the limit of a half ton axle. They are on the bottom of the smallest tire you should run on tons but at the top/max limit to run on say a dana 30 or even a dana 44(the old ones). If you trail ride and know how to use the gas pedal, you could be fine. If you go mudding then you can get away with a smaller axle. However, if you want to do rock crawling and you the gas pedal is either ON or OFF, then smaller axles wont last long lol. Fun to watch, but then sucks when you're replacing axle shafts and/or ring and pinions on the trail. I've seen a guy on 35s bust a ring and pinion on is TJ rubicon going up a steep rocky ledge and he loves the go pedal. I'm on a locked Dana 30 High Pinion(stronger than the low pinion found in 2000-2001 XJ and all TJs), and 33s for a long time, but I know when to let off the gas and when to keep in it. When you are gassing it and then all of a sudden you catch traction, that's when things break. Be it, bouncing up and down and then snap, or spinning on a ledge and then you slide into some dirt and you gain traction and then SNAP!
@4wdtennessee45911 ай бұрын
Right ty I’ve always said that 35s are the most a half ton would safely take I had a Dana 60 and sterling 10.5 but rent was more important so now I gotta start over.
@mikeball91163 ай бұрын
Dex-Have you ever tried any aftermarket upgraded alloy axle shafts for the Dana 44 HD aluminum rear end? I’m planning on going with the American made Dutchman’s alloy shafts for my 5.2 ZJ. A lot cheaper than the front RCV’s! $330 for a pair with studs included. -Forged alloy 1541-H material [25% stronger than stock 1039 material] Same exact material as my Torqmasters alloy shafts I just put in my XJ’s rear 8.25

This may be a dumb question but. I have a 1999 tj the original owner upgraded from 27 spline axle shafts to 30 spline axle shafts. I need to replace the axle shaft bearings and seals. Can I just go to the local autoparts store and get the ones they say fit? Or do the 30 spline axle shafts have a larger diameter than the 27 spline?
