Thank you for the excellent breakdown. I'm a southpaw with erratic penmanship, but I love writing with fountain pens. I'm starting to think that I might want to try an oblique nib, but angled the other way.

You said it. Your handwriting skills. More practice would help. As a lefty, I print. I see few videos for use lefties. I love my Arcitect nibs and some stubs for variation in writing. But obliques, left or right, confuse me as to which would be best as a lefty.

You should continue making videos.

Nice! How is the sweet spot on those? Am i going to find it to scratchy? I was consodering a relief nib (left oblique) because i have a tendancy to want to twist the pen into the paper a bit.

I prefer stubs, obliques & italic nibs: which I attribute to learning to write cursive at a very young age (7).

In my experience, oblique nibs make my handwriting better, because they force me to hold the pen always in the appropriate position, otherwise they get scratchy. Although for daily use, I prefer standard fine or medium nibs.

I've been trying to figure out the oblique nib issue and I realized that there is one thing that I may have misunderstood. What do you mean by rotating the pen? Does it mean turning it between your fingers, or rotating your hand?
@joshuanorris58604 жыл бұрын
It means turning it in your fingers. Twisting it into the page so your nib isnt perfectly upright anymore I have a tendancy to do this anyways. So i was considering a relief nib. (Same as left oblique)

What’s the difference between a stub/italic and an oblique?

Ha. Gets confusing right. Try a wet ink and a dry ink. All inks are wet. Or a wet nib and dry nib. What if you have a wet nib and a dry ink. My head's exploding here.

it seems you are more comftable with oblique nibs, that your writing has conformed to it. that pilot pen is unique though...

I write with a med. nib, and I do not have closed lettering. My letters are open and well formed. Because of that, what would be the benefit of an oblique nib for me??????

What’s the point of using nice pens and going into deep details if your handwriting is ugly!

You need to improve your handwriting first!

Yup. It's the visual equivalent to fingernails being scraped on a blackboard.
