X-men 97 is doing everything right. It doesn't have any pointless dialog or pointless jokes we got with Thor Love n Thunder or GOTG with Mantis & Drax. There's action, meaningful dialog, great writing AND there is a serious tone that is kept throughout. The main reason why Infinity War was so successful was because there was a serious tone that was kept throughout the movie and that serious dialog and tone is what kept people on the edge of their seats and had many crying when Thanos did the snap. X-Men’97 is so good because it’s nostalgia and using the original material the “right way.” I realized after this week’s episode that part of the reason I was so emotional about it is because I already have a very deep, meaningful connection to this content. It’s so much harder to accomplish this kind of connection with brand new material. That’s why Iron Man through Endgame was such an accomplishment. Because the content had to do all the “heavy lifting” and world-building itself. Not to take anything from Beau for how beautifully he’s handled this material, but without the deep nostalgia people have for the X-Men Animated Series, I don’t think the hype would be as big as it is.

X-Men 97 works because it respects the fans and respects the source material. The last two phases have had creators who’ve proudly claimed I’m not a fan of This Thing, and I’ve never read a comic. Those projects haven’t felt like Marvel. DeMayo seems like a fan first and a creator second, and this works.

I think if Marvel could have a "Do Over". Phase 4 would have been the Fantastic Four saga and Phase 5 would have been the X-Men Saga (both not in the MCU) and then Phase 6 would be back in the MCU leading up to Secret Wars where the incursions happen in the Multiverse Saga. This would have accomplished two things: 1- it would have given the audience a break from the MCU characters from the first 30 movies. And gave us a chance to "miss" them and wonder how the MCU is getting along now that Tony is dead and Cap retired. 2- It would have given writers and the studio and opportunity to build up the Fantastic Four and X-Men characters properly. Not rushing to Secret Wars like we are now but instead taking their time, investing the audience in these new characters like they did with the audience back in phases 1-3. Just my two cents. ✌🏾✌🏾

I've had similiar ideas. Just one problem with your approach, u say fantastic four saga but u really mean a phase. Like, a saga is typically 3 phases. So we really won't be getting that many FF and x men movies which will develop their characters at par with our MCU Avengers to clash in secret wars.

I think because X-Men TAS had such a clear vision to follow, it set the show up for success. Characters were flushed out and ready to go and they didn't try to reinvent what worked in TAS. TAS did a great job using the source material which made it great and in turn 97 great. I loved TAS as a kid, it introduced me to X-Men, and 97 was the mutants I know and love and very much not the mutants from the FOX movies.

“Why buy the rights back and not use it?!” When phase 4 was green lit, Feige had managed to turn Marvel’s b-listers (Cap, Iron Man, Thor) and C-listers (Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange) into billion dollar sub franchises of the Marvel Universe. He thought he had the Midas touch and could do the same with the d listers and failed. Clearly, with Kang, a major Avengers antagonist as the big bad, the idea was to get one more bite of the Avengers apple with the multiverse saga, before going into the mutants.A lot of blame has been placed at the feet of Kang, but I think the real problem in retrospect has been the lack of a strong A plot. In The Infinity Saga, the A plot was Tony and Steve, the B plot was Thanos and the Guardians, and the excitement of A3-4 was seeing the two separate plot threads culminate. In the multiverse saga, the B plot is Kang, Loki and the TVA. There is no A plot. We had mostly mid projects introducing main characters who have no ties to each other. We should already have our Avengers team, and F4 going into A5, with the X Men as third quarter addition. There just weren’t enough interesting Avengers left to carry the multiverse saga. Certain characters are great mains and some should remain supporting cast.

Here are the reasons: - More faithful to the comic storylines - Each character has their own distinct personality and they are not relegated to a corny/quipfest Rober Downey Jr. Clone - The humour in X-Men 97 is not cringy "SNL look at the camera and expect audience to laugh at your bad jokes" humour like MCU is - Emotional moments have emotional weight and let the audience know the severity of the situation unlike MCU where characters might die and someone will immediately make a cringe joke cause we don't want toddlers watching to hurt their feelings - No cheap and shitty looking CGI like the MCU - No directors having a superiority complex and disrespecting the comics while simultaneously trying to insert themselves in the movie - X-Men 97 actually has a well planned storyline unlike the MCU where it's throw shit at the wall and see what sticks I could go on and on but MCU movies were always fucking cringe fest movies for soccer moms and neckbeards that reduced themselves to SNL skits in order to appeal to the dumbest person on Earth and I'm glad that X-Men 97 is finally showing how to do a proper comic book adaptation without having to severely dumb down the content for toddlers like the MCU has been doing for years I don't trust Disney with any live action attempt at doing the X-Men justice. Of course it is, it is a better show than some projects of any of the phases, but it does not reach the level of many others, but the same could be said about loki, wandavision or gotg 3. I think that fans are using this show as a measuring stick, when before there has already been a lot of evidence that something that does not faithfully adapt a comic can work. x-men 97 is not the example of how to do something well, it is just another example. People look for a formula that works for everything, but it is not that simple, a show, movie, animation and comic work in different ways. However, I agree that there are some steps you could take to make your job easier.

It's quite simple. Good storytelling. There is an overarching plot, and then smaller subplots. But there's always a payoff (i.e., Endgame). Remember when the MCU had this very same buildup? PHASE 4 introduced us to a lot of new characters, but there was very little tie in to the existing big picture (*albeit, with the exception of mid/post credit scenes). Also, a lot of our legacy characters either died, retired, or weren't seen but for small cameos or D + shows. And of course, they were pushing DEI and the message ideology, when this is supposed to be escapism entertainment

I think it's better because X-Men make no apologies about what it is and what it's about. The MCU has tried and capture mainstream demographics and the X-Men have canonically not given a shit about being PC and conforming, it's kind of their deal. It's just great to see the characters in all their glory and in the way they were created to represent. X-Men 97 gives us non water down characters with storylines that don't try explain itself. If you get it great, if you don't then it's still a fun watch.

I think, just not respect the source, but respect and KNOW who you're writing for. The average idiot Phase 4/5 writer would try to write this for 10 year olds. The MCU is different than Marvel as a whole, Marvel has separate divisions manned by different teams and they all work differently, the MCU, Comics, and animated TV shows, are all different, they are separate, the animated shows aren't separate from the company itself, but it's separate from comics and the MCU.
