I’m so glad you brought up the parenting comments about kids being disrespectful towards others and causing trauma for them as they become older. This is what makes me fearful for my nieces and for my own kids in the future. No matter how much you try to protect your kids, there is going to be people surrounding them that have cruel intentions. I wish that when topics like these came about, parents would take comments more into consideration and with an open mind rather than getting defensive and becoming upset. We need to watch out for our kids because as minimalistic as a mean comment or breaking glasses can seem to be. We all know that these type of behaviors usually lead to worse behavior if it is not addressed at a young age. I love your conversations 🫶🏽 thanks for openly sharing your experiences with us.

Omg yes. When my oldest started school, this little kid a little taller than him, told him he didn’t love his brother. We had just dropped him off, it was his second week of school. And we were telling him we love him and to have a good day. And my son tells his younger brother “I love you brother.” And the little mocoso he says “you don’t love your brother.” My son stopped and told him “yes i do, and he loves me too.” And the boy goes “no.” And punches my son. We saw it all happen and my momma bear came out and I yelled at the kid. And I told him touch my kid one more time ima go after your momma. And of course I calmed out because I can’t show my kids that side. But I was so mad. Come to find out the day before that, the little boy had kicked his teacher in the head when she bent down to pick up some papers he had crumbled and thrown while doing a tantrum. And since then I tell my son, ignore all the kids that seem like bullies to you. Play by yourself if you have to. You rather be your own company than having horrible company. Always be nice, kind, and never be a bully. But also never allow bullying around you. It’s so sad how some kids aren’t raised right or don’t get enough love at home that they have to try and make someone else hurt or miserable.

Middle school is where i learn my social skills and found my confidence to get to know people. Not until a girl was rude af in front of a group of her friends saying “Not everyone is your friend. Stop trying to get to know everyone!” Till this day, I struggle getting to know new people and get anxious not fitting in a group. Thanks Louie & yoatzi for opening up a conversation about what we go through in school ❤️

I’m a child development major and they teach us that a lot of children imitate and copy the behavior that they see at home. So maybe those kids see that that’s how their dad speaks to their mother or other women! Unfortunately it is a chain, but as parents if you’re able to recognize your behavior, you would be setting a great example for children since their brains are like sponges when they are growing up.

I can relate to Yoatzi about not having friends. I had friends but I never had like relationships with these so called friends. I’m 26 now and til this day I don’t have any friends. I also tend to love being alone or to myself so being married for about 8 yrs now was difficult at 1st because my husband is social and friendly and I am more to myself. As I’ve gotten older I honestly realized I don’t want any friends lol like I just don’t?? My husband, siblings & cousins are my friends.

I grew up watching him and even though I don’t know him personally I’m proud of where he is now.

thank you ! 41:57 I honestly really needed to hear this ☹️ i’m currently a sophomore in highschool experiencing the loneliness of having not one friend in that school..every single day i go sit in the library in one corner because i just feel so lost and lonely:( and i really really hope my future out of highschool takes me far ! They don’t see the fears i had , the tears i cry ..never ending cycle from waking up,go to school, not one person too enjoy my food with, not one person too talk too,i endure 8 hours of pure silence, and going home to the exact same treatment is so painful 💔just sucks knowing i have to do this for 2 more years😕 entered highschool without friends and leaving highschool with no friends and sometimes i start reminicing the good ole elementary days 🥲 why do we need to grow?:(

u should try to talk to other kids u see alone. I was the opposite. In high school I was very outgoing and had many friends but it was because I learned that talking to people is how you make friends. I used to go up to lonely kids and make them my friends and eventually I started to hang out with them. Ever since covid; people don’t talk anymore. It’s harder to socialize but trust me there’s other lonely kids that want friends like you do! it’s easier said than done but there’s nothing to lose the worst that can happen is get told that they don’t want to hang out and that’s fine! Trust me, even if you only meet one person it makes a difference. Having 1 close friend sometimes is better than having many

My son was was bullied in the 5th grade by a girl , one day she pushed him and he ended up with a bruise on his head . The school called me and I requested they remove the girl from his class, they did but then her friends continued bullying my son calling him names because they said it was his fault their friend was no longer in their class . This really affected my son and now I feel he has a hard time making friends .

Like it's crazy dude 💀

I can 100000000% relate! I was getting so sad because literally 3 times I've been approached at the gym, grocery store, and target for pyramid schemes. Each time I thought I could've made a new friend (which I don't have many of). After all that disappointment, I just tried to not let it get me down and last year I made a new friend while shopping at the mall! so the takeaway is that, never give up & it just takes time/patience to make friends organically :) don't let bad experiences close you off forever.

I love your podcast so much. I really appreciate how open you both are and for sharing such personal experiences. I also want to thank you for taking the time to use your platform for such a variety of topics. But your experiences of bullying and struggle with friendships and childhood trauma are something I relate to so much. And you are both right in how others make you feel about yourself when you're young. Does not determine or mean that that's going to be your life. And also that parents and adults need to teach their children how to be respectful to others and treat others how you would like to be treated. I also understand that not all children come from a stable and loving family dynamic at home, but I still don't think it's okay or an excuse for the adults around us, that are supposed to protect all children will do absolutely nothing or stay quite. I think this is why I struggle now as an adult to make friends and it makes me so sad because I really crave genuine friendship, but in the back of my mind, I always have my guard up and feel scared to open up because I feel people will not give the same energy or betrayal. I'm so afraid of meeting new people and exerting that energy it feels so comfortable to keep to myself, but I also feel that's a lonely way to live life.

I love this episode!! This really does just show how mean kids can be too. I work at an Elementary School, and some of these kids surprise me with how they act. It's also crazy though what schools administrators aren't allowed to do anymore to reprimand a child. It's hard to discipline a child at school if they're allowed to get away with stuff at home. Not to mention the kids who think they can do whatever or get away with whatever because their parent/relative works at the school they go to.

I love how you guys are so opened about bullying it’s crazy to think that bullying still exists and it’s sad but it all comes down to the parents. I was bullied through my whole elementary school years and the sad thing about it was I wanted friends so bad that I would buy them chips just so they can talk to me but after lunch they would go back to there normal bullying self’s. my parents didn’t make enough money and that was my money for the week for lunch bring me to tears every time I think about it but I I tried to erase my elementary schools so it’s blurry to me when people ask me about my elementary years. But I always told myself when I have kids I will teach the importance of not bullying. Thank you for sharing your stories 💖💜

I’m a school counselor at an elementary school, it’s actually my first year and those issues you were talking about, how kids would not only bully you but make you feel like shit about yourself still happen. And it’s so sad but these kids learn these behaviors at home, their siblings bully them or even their own parents. It suck’s that when we were in school we didn’t have an adult to listen to us or to help us, but that’s my job now. It gives me hope that there’s ppl like u guys talking about this subject because I know some of my students watch your podcast. I loved this episode! Yoatzi I can relate. I switched schools when I was in 2nd grade and that transition was terrible. Kids were so mean. I never felt like I had true friends until the end of HS and thankfully they are still with me today (only 2). I would constantly change myself to fit the people around me so that I "was cool" and "fit in". So I struggled with my identity and personality so much.. Plus I was shy. Hi YOATZI an LOUIE! I am glad that you guys are sharing these "friend" stories. I am sorry you guys had to go through this, but I'm sure this helped you two know how to scope out the real friends from those that just want to be around you to benefit their own life. I remember I was always bullied and people being mean to me because I was chunky, and "ugly" segun. I was never confident, but I never let those dumb kids step all over me. I used to defend myself. If they put hands n me, i would too. If they called me names or told me mean things, I would too. UGH!!! I hate freaking kids that are so mean. Nut at the moment, I struggle to make friends too, its sad, because I want true genuine friends, but its so hard!!

This episode really resonated with me, & while I wouldn’t wish these feelings on anyone else, it was a bit reassuring knowing that others also feel this way especially like Yoatzi. I’m currently a sahm of 2 and it’s just that much more difficult for me to make friends; because the ones I had before turned out to not be genuine friends or we just grew apart. On the other hand, as a sahm I really don’t go out and so I feel deprived of opportunities to make friends at places like work. I used to get so sad bc I always felt like I wasn’t one to “attract” friends. Eventually, I just started to focus more on my little family and myself. I enjoy being alone and I’m not bothered at that fact and with time I have started to meet new people who I’ve just been able to connect with effortlessly. I still have yet to say I have a group of solid friends, but I’m proud of where I’m at and comfortable enough that if it doesn’t happen I’ll be okay. I have so many stories/experiences from “friendships” when I was in school. Lol, I remember when I was like in 6th grade the group of girls I used to consider my friends wrote me a note which I opened to read when school was over and it basically said they didn’t want to be my friends anymore. Like Yoatzi, I also was caught off guard bc I had never done anything. I just think at the time the things those girls valued were looks and materialistic things. I didn’t have much and tbh I didn’t have my “glow up” til after HS haha. So yeah, it was very much that I feel. I guess I just didn’t have the Aeropostale and Hollister shirts to fit in back then lol 🥲😂

It’s a scary world we live in 😢 I had my son come up to me one day and told me one of his classmates kept trying to trip him while playing and the kid told him he was going to drop him. I messaged his teacher and told her about what happened and thankfully she acted quick and had the kid apologize to my baby and now this year they are friends lol. But I’m sorry I told my child if they bully you speak up if nothing changes after you speak up and the school doesn’t do anything defend yourself 👊🏻 👊🏻

Yoatzi your hair this episode 🤩🤩 I always had a hard time making friends. Especially being Latina. I never fit in with other Latinos and especially not white 🥲 People would always say I would talk shit about them but I only did after someone else told me they talked about me. I cut off the middle person bc she was fake af playing both sides. I ended senior year with only my bf. Still don’t have any especially as a mom. I thank God he blessed me with 5 sisters and 7 brothers 💜

I am the type of mom that will not play! I will never allow my kids to bully or be rude to other kids! There was this little girl in my daughter 5th grade class who is lower income and I found out that my daughter and her “friends” were making fun of her! Soooo I made my daughter pick out her favorite outfit and shoes to match and then took her to school and made her give it to the little girl! And I told her and her friends that we should never judge people because we never know what their life is like or what they are going through! And how would they like it if someone did that to them! And then sure as shit their 3rd day of 6th grade my daughter and her friends were eating lunch and this group of 8th graders dumped milk on them and was making pig noises! Now don’t get me wrong THIS MOMMA WENT HAMMMMMMM on their parents in that meeting lol but I also made this a teaching lesson to my daughter! Now! She is always helping other people and making better decisions! AS PARENTS ITS OUR JOB TO SHAPE THE PERSON THEY WILL BECOME! ❤

My FAVORITE episode! I’m the same way. no one is going to mess with my kids & as far as friends, I don’t go looking for it. If I happen to meet someone who really wants to hangout then I’m down but I’m not trying to make any friends lol most of the time I’m good with hanging with my kids

Also I love how you talk about friendships honeslty, as I grew up the one thing I learned for sure us thay all you need is to be surrounded by real friends, like as long as they are real and non judgmental and truly love you, all you need is at least 1 and you can do anything. So im extremely happy you guys now have people in your life (even if its only a handful) that you can truly rely on. You don't need a lot, just as long as they are real and true💜 Also F those bitches that took advantage of YOA😫😫💗💗💗
