Why you can't fix a Can Am ATV power steering unit.

The only thing easily replaceable is the motor. The circuit board is glued into the cover and would be more work than it's worth to try to remove it, repair it and then re-glue it so it's waterproof.
This one passed all the tests in the service manual and the speed sensor works on the ATV. We installed a used one off Ebay and my step dad's 650 has power steering again. Taking off half the front of the ATV is the time consuming part.

Hello friend I appreciate your contribution and I searched a lot but there is not much information about it I have an xmr 1000 2013 and I have a fault in the DPS since it is only working for the right but for the left it is very hard so I have it disconnected I think it has solution or do I have to replace the whole part?

Did you crash or bend anything? Does the computer show any error codes? If not, my guess is that it is not repairable. The good news is that you have a G2 version and you should be able to buy a good working used unit for it. Mine is a G1 version and I have not found a way to install a G2 unit into a G1 quad and have it work.

how do you rebuild/repair motor. I have a 13 800 with dps that's not working

The electric motor can be taken out and repaired. You would have to source any needed parts such as the brushes, etc. If something in the circuit board failed, I think you just have to get another unit since they don't sell individual parts. As far as I know, a G2 unit should bolt in and work. Don't hold me to that though. We only have G1 quads here.

If the ps motor locks up on a 2011 outlander 800 xmr....will it lock the Handlebars up so the atv can't turn right or left? I mean....I can't even turn my Handlebars manually with the front tires off the ground. My dos settings aren't working either. I also have check Air Suspension message being displayed. It says I have no active fault codes tho. I put a brand new correct battery in it as well. What's my issues ?? Thanks for any advice. I'm stumped. Only 1,000 miles on my canam too. 😔

I don't remember if it will lock up. I just read online someone posted about it being really hard to turn. There was an issue with the large yellow wires under the seat being too small. They have a kit to fix that. It could be your problem as poor voltage from partially melted wires will cause all sorts of electrical troubles.

I have a 2024 850xt Max. Just started to notice a twitchiness in my steering when sitting still . If i move the bars a little bit, they jerk back n forth slightly but quickly. . Calling dealer in morning. Got any thoughts before i talk to them ?

I would make sure the battery is fully charged and the connections are clean and tight. A poor ground might cause that.

I cant believe how stupid people are to think it's ok to buy a 4 wheeler with power steering. It's a 4 wheeler why do you need it and it's very dangerous

Ok, you need to do lots more trail riding, when you get to rocky trails if you don't have power steering when you come off of big rocks it can knock the handle bars out of hour hand, I've seen a couple people get thrown off the machine, it's not stupid, there's a purpose.

It can be just a low voltage problem. Make sure your battery is fully charged and not starting to go bad. It could show normal voltage but fail a load test. You can even try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to see if it helps. If you turn the bars and it feels jerky or twitchy, it's probably on it's way out. There are some tests in the service manual or you can take it in to the dealer and hook it up to the BUDS software to see if it shows anything.

Is the shaft that runs through it replaceable?

I would think so, but it's not available as a new piece. You would have to swap one from a used one.
