gims you should make a video with someone like zd reacting to get up attack with shield or reacting to regular get up with grab. be sure to mix up the timing to make sure they are reacting.

EVERY Smash player should be subbed to this channel. Like it should be official content for the game honestly. The only thing I'd like to see more of is visual examples to go along with explaining the concepts. Keep up the great work!

This is great. A topic I haven't heard discussed that much. Everyone always talks about how top players react but I haven't heard much actionable advice on how to actually start reacting more.

Some content ideas that I'd be interested in. As a forward: I'm an Elite smash 1-2 at locals kind of guy. I know I'm bad, but also I have to imagine that people like me make up a good percentage of your audience, as half of people in every tournament go either 1-2 or worse, and those are likely the people trying to get better via youtube. I only have time to play smash for like 4 hours a week. Tech and movement: how to prioritize them. How to practice them when you have very little time to practice. A lot of the time I just repeatedly do rar or instant rars in the loading screen before an online smash game. Is that even really useful? I find that I'm often missing anti airs and pivot grab a lot when I mean to normal grab. I found it really interesting when you talked on tweek talks about how light came into smash 4 just playing smash stick fox and how that changed things. That's really interesting to me. Understanding how metas develop and how individual players contribute is just interesting. You've mentioned a few times how tweek called out that pivot out of dash would make ultimate more defensive. You and others have also talked about how ultimate is way more flowcharty and how smash 4 required more "outplaying" your opponent. I think Aaron said that on a tweek talk. That's interesting to me but I don't really understand what you mean by that. It sounded like Aaron said perfect pivoting = more skill but that doesn't totally make sense to me? I didn't feel that perfect pivots were harder to do than, say, idjs. Also, I love when you break down moments of pro play, it's really helpful and interesting, but it can be hard to apply what you're talking about to my gameplay because they're making decisions which are so far ahead of those which I make and are playing opponents who are way better than those I face. Isaw, on the other hand, shows footage of his training sessions where people make mistakes really similar to the mistakes that I make, but then doesn't show as much how a better player or pro reacts in the same situation, so it's harder to take away what I should focus on as a next step. Also, his videos are much longer and less punchy than yours, so it's a big time investment. What would be really great is to be able to see clips of some of the beginner players you do lessons with making mistakes, and then seeing a mid level player in the same situation, and finally compared with footage of how a pro behaves in the same situation. Perhaps it could be you trying some common option against a beginner player, spamming a move, or dashing back and forth in neutral or maybe doing that fox short hop full hop thing you talked about, and showing how a beginner reacts and gets beat by it, then show what happens when you try the same thing against a mid level player, then finally you trying the same thing against tweek or void. Ideally with them all playing the same character. I think being able to compare the footage would make it much more obvious what the pro players are doing well. It could also function as a poor man's film review for people like me who only play smash after a long days work, when I'm tired, and really don't feel like spending my down time reviewing footage and taking notes. Just some suggestions. Hopefully this is helpful in some way!

This is such a good topic that I’ve been trying to get more insight on. I find that I do extremely well within the first hour or two of a tournament and then I start rapidly losing my thinking ability and focus. I spoke with void about it and one thing he said that helps him was to change his environment in some way or another. He said he’ll start playing music or change his music up to sort of reset his focus. More tricks and insight on it in a video would be so dope

These are just basic tips for playing but 1) don't eat a big meal before playing because your body spends energy breaking down and digesting the food so it will slow your reaction speed. 2) have something sugary (preferably dextrose, not sucrose) because your body will break down the simple sugar very fast for energy. An example of dextrose candy is pixie sticks or smarties. 3) visualize your winning and meditate before playing (Armada method) to refresh your mind. These things also work for traditional sports and I do them for jujitsu.

Off that last point I think a video on how to effectively practice movement and positioning would be very good. I personally find it hard to utilize training mode for certain things and I think that would be a good place to start. I know it sounds like moving could be practiced as simply as go in training mode and move around but I feel it would be good to just go over various ways to practice being able to have yourself in the right spot to land the moves you want. Keep up the videos cause I do think they are all very helpful and it’s great to have more resources like this on how to practice

13:35 Slight correction for neutral getup, it's a 1 frame window before they can shield. So neutral get up to spot dodge has a 3 frame window before you're intangible, since spot dodge is not intangible on the first 2 frames
@Wolpackman
@Wolpackman 3 жыл бұрын
No, most characters have a 2 frame window, and a very small pool of characters have a 1 frame window. So its safe to say 2 frame window for neutral get up, because theres about 10 or so characters with a 1 frame window
@biggestmvp1
@biggestmvp1 3 жыл бұрын
@@Wolpackman Are you refuting that there's a 1 frame window for neutral get up to shield. Or that there is a 3 frame window for neutral get up to spot dodge. I said both of those statements.
@Wolpackman
@Wolpackman 3 жыл бұрын
@@biggestmvp1 im refuting your statement that there is a 1 frame window, which in conclusion refutes both. This is because if there is not a universal frame 1 vulnerability window for neutral get up then spot dodge, which is frame 2, wouldnt be frame 3 universally as well. Basically, if king ddd spot dodges after neutral get up, and his neutral get up has 3 frames of vulnerability, his spot dodge would come out on frame 5
@biggestmvp1
@biggestmvp1 3 жыл бұрын
@@Wolpackman just got notification by KZbin app for some reason. Anyways, I went and tested DDD (and many others) going frame by frame in training mode and having invulnerability on - I'm right where neutral get up has a universal 1 frame window before acting. If you still think there's a difference in any character, I suggest you go in training mode and do neutral get up to jab. You'll notice your character will no longer be blue for 1 frame, and then the next frame begins the jab animation (thus 1 frame that you're vulnerable before you can act). I assume your misunderstanding comes from using shield (instead of jab) because shield isn't visible on frame 1, only frame 2. However, shield is a frame 1 option, so even if you don't see it, it's still active and protecting you.

Great video, and like how you mentioned this was a topic that comes up often in coaching, maybe you can make (lower effort?) videos where its a clip or section of a coaching session, where you talk about a thing that player needs to improve on (or identifying what issues they're having). This type of video definetly has a lot of quality and made to be for a broad audience, but even lessons/problems that may not apply to myself or even a broad audience are entertaining to watch as well. Keep up the good work!

In Charles's Ledgetrap example, if you go to Training Mode with a Byleth CPU (dunno if level or stage matters but I did level 8 on Small Battlefield), they will almost never do a ledge jump, and just stick to neutral getup, ledge attack and ledge roll. Good way to practice that exercise.

I feel like in Brawl and Smash 4 I could just get away by reacting to everything and I did pretty well, but in Ultimate everything feels weird. If you're having trouble reacting to fucking Ike, there's a problem. I just always played on forcing people's reactions and punishing them, but here I struggle to punish half the things and it doesn't make any sense.

Dash grabs are the reason why I do so well in smash. Intermediate and low level smash players do not understand the risk involved in dash grabbing. They just see it as, "oh he's shielding I'm gonna grab". I generally gauge whether my opponent likes to play risky or if he's a strong player and chooses calculated risks. If it's the prior, I preprogrammed a spotdodge/jump punish. I'm most cases it's a garunteed spot dodge to upsmash or short hop to combo starter.

In mid and low level play I have noticed that dash-in roll back works amazing because they expect you to either jump, in which case they jump and then they are above you, or they try to punish your dash-in by hitting it with a projectile or long range move, however if you are playing a camper then this doesnt work at all
