Something I need to know is the coverage in the shape of a cone like an ice cream cone.meaning the bottom would be like a big circle. Or like a flashlight shinning down.

Why then can fish finders show fish arches next to a shallow area? Doesn’t it depend on the relative hardness of the object? There are more colors being displayed which indicate hardness. Those colors help to form the picture of the fish and other objects.

Hello, the hardness of the bottom covers any reflection of any target, which will always be weaker. In shallow water, you see the arches because the fish are always higher off the bottom. Otherwise you wouldn't see them.
