Good job explaining the setting for 2d. I find myself going back to 2d more often than I ever thought I would thx

Thank you for this video and explanation. Hands down the best explanation I have seen on how to read 2D sonar!

Great Video, I only have trolling motors on my 15 ft aluminum boat. Tops out at 3 to 4 mph lol. Smoking down the lake lol.Is this fast enough to see arches? Or will I only see the spaghetti noodles? Thanks William
@MidwestOutdoorExperience Жыл бұрын
You’ll see arches at that speed. Most boats idle around 3-4mph

So I’m having trouble trying to understand something. Your transducer is projecting a cone underneath it but on your graph it’s basically like looking at the bottom from a side view? What happens if you see a increase in depth as in like a 2 foot drop going in one direction (similar to 15:00 mark on your video although yours is a 10ft drop), what would it look like if you turned your boat 90 degrees to the left over the same drop, you wouldn’t see that drop anymore? Would it just be a straight line? Trying to understand the orientation of what you would see?

I'll try to help. So try to imagine the 2d sonar beam in its cone shape under the boat as you're driving along. It's not just a flat 2D cone going into the water, it's a 3D shape that is encompassing a pretty significant area (depending on frequency). You can tell the location of fish within the cone to an extent based on the strength of their return. (Big bright hard returns on a fish or an object indicate it is near the center of the cone. Weak or softer returns will indicate that it is near the edges of the cone) So as you're driving remember try to envision that you're seeing kind of through the screen and getting a little bit of depth to the screen and not just a flat 2d Image...now as far as driving up/down or parallel with a steeper drop off...this can look different based on the frequency and depth of water you're in. The deeper the water = larger bottom coverage, which will look very similar to what is at the 15:00 mark. If you're in shallower water and have less bottom coverage you may not see the depth change as easily if you're going parallel with it. Some of these things are easier to interpret with side imaging in certain situations as well.

@@MidwestOutdoorExperience Are you able to deliver a new video to elaborate on all of this detail? It would really greatly assist my (and many others) understanding of this topic… Cameron

Wow, I never realized you could use 2d sonar as a live scope.

What are all the clutter on the screen around 9:50?
@MidwestOutdoorExperience2 жыл бұрын
The long streak was from switching to the high chirp frequency momentarily. The blue line up top is just surface clutter.

You definitely know what your talking about but SLOW DOWN when you talk. I have produced training videos for 40 years - there is no need to talk this fast
