Wrong gas cap on left tank. Left tank is a sealed cap and the right tank is the vented cap, that vents both tanks via a crossover vapor hose under the dash. That is why your leaking with a full tank on the kickstand. Had the same problem on my 77 lowrider.

So if you need a make shift plug in the future, stop and buy a bottle of wine with a large cork in the end, break the bottle and take the cork and carefully whittle it down until you can tightly put the cork in to stop the oil from leaking out. That aught to get you home.
@browngreen9332 жыл бұрын
Shadetree discovered the original Harley mystique. The bikes were super cool but you had to constantly maintain them on a daily basis keeping things tight and in top shape. That led to an obsession with your bike because you had to constantly tend to her. I know because I rode Panheads in the 1970s-80s on a daily basis -- but never 4000 miles across the country. This was truly epic.

Haha, very kool. Congratulations! I got married on ,my first HD, a new 1982 FXE Shovel. My wife and I rode it from Little Rock to NYC a few times, before moving to the city. Put 80,000 trouble free miles on it in 4 years, then stroked it to 93", put it in 1951 wishbone, and rode it from Brooklyn to Rome GA in one day--- 950 miles. These days, my daily rides are a mildly chopped 1982 FXB, and a near original 82 FXB. Like pitbulls, a Shovelhead's manners and demeanor all depend on how it was raised and whether or not it was abused! You couldn't give me a new HD---- if it ain't got a kicker I ain't interested.

Slept in a canvas bedroll and enjoyed early morning coffee in some of the most beautiful country east of the Mississippi. It’s doable man. Might take you months to plan and get your bike ready but, it’s doable. Maybe take a few 100 mile camping trips on weekends to get comfortable with what’s really needed for a long trip before going for a 1,000 miler but, I promise you. You’ll not regret the experience as long as you plan ahead. It doesn’t take much cash. Just leave yourself a way out if something goes wrong. Hope this helps man🤘

Riding vicariously through you while waiting a month for a hernia operation, (thanks free healthcare!) saw the first episode where you did a mini montage of everything that was going to go wrong, but missed the bit about it being a foreshadowing thing. It looked to me like the shovelhead was running perfectly for the first day and a half, and then just fell apart in one afternoon. I was laughing so hard my wife was worried (may have been a bit stoned) . It looked like it (in my haze) was coming apart like a clown car at the circus. Tank falling off, signal light dangling on a wire, instrument panel vibrating and falling off, then fuel tank held on with electrical tape!! I couldn't catch my breath! This is, without a doubt, one of the best travel vid series I have ever watched!!

The 1st time I was out west on a motorcycle, I kept telling myself “soak it all in and remember it”. I’m happy you experienced it 1st hand. Picture’s and videos don’t do it justice. Great video once again.

This was the BEST mini-series cross-country video I've watched so far this year! Wonderful ride and thank you for sharing. I'm sitting here in Central Arkansas recovering from a total hip replacement performed back on 31 May 2022. After about one more month I'll be returning to riding, starting slowly, on my 1972 Honda CT-90, and building back my strength to ride either my 1991 Honda 750 Nighthawk or then up to my 1999 Honda 1100 Shadow. At 61 years old I'm limited on long rides, but I still have really nice rides here in Arkansas. I really liked your ride, it made me feel like I was there with you guys! Have a super great time at your Friday party! I sure wish I could be there with everyone! Again, thank you both for sharing!

David must be a awesome friend to have. I have rode harleys across Canada and the US since 1981 and have had more than my share of breakdowns on the highways of America. So this episode gave me great memories and I had a good laugh. Great work!

Great series and epic tour. The high highs and low lows of the road never disappoint. It isn't until you set out on a journey across this country that you realize how many good souls are actually still out there. I was feeling your pain towards the end there. It reminded me of a cold Michigan wind that blows the hardest/coldest steps away from the door inside to warmth. Ride on brother!

I know you down play it but damn Shadetree! Your mechanic skills are impressive. Having to deal with all of those random issues and the ability to fix things so quickly, while on the road and in the elements is just amazing to me. I would be completely SOL running into those issues myself. No clue how to troubleshoot or fix any of those ignition and other trials you went through. Hats off to you for sticking through on this trip my friend!

Brother, this video is going down in KZbin history as legendary...I felt every moment of frustration and elation that you relayed to us throughout your adventure! I ride a lot and do crazy trips too but due to my career choice I can't do it to the extreme you do. That's all going to change in 22 months when I retire at the age of 55. I'll never have to work again and I'm longing for this type of adventure. Been riding since 1986 and have great memories but nothing like this. I mean, hammering a piece of wood into a oil hole??? Hell yes!!!! You're the most unique and interesting 'tuber in this space and I want to give forward to help insure you continue with these videos. Probably going to join your Patreon but would rather make a donation so you don't lose anything through having to throw in a t shirt, stickers or whatever. FYI i don't have PayPal or any of the other pay options so would rather just send you a pre paid cc or a gift card for hotels, gas or something like that. Fucking awesome content brother... can't wait to see more!

Your reaction is exactly the same as mine.... definitely a dream ride of mine. When I first drove down from Montreal, Canada to California I was amazed at everything I saw.... Arizona at sunset almost brought tears to my eyes at how beautiful is was. I miss the States badly. Safe riding brother!

I knew it didn't end well but seeing that tow truck in front of the shovel made my heart sink. BACA has to be one of the best clubs out there and am not surprised a member stopped to help, they are angels on wheels. Great video Shadetree. I'll be planning a mini trip for this weekend cause yours looked like such an adventure. David might be the coolest dude on the channel.
