In German, the primary stress typically falls on the first syllable of the root word. There can also be secondary stress, especially in longer words.

Great find, indeed. Even people who are experts at mimicking accents can fall into the stress/intonation trap -- I once had the opportunity to meet with and talk to the late James Doohan (Scotty in the original Star Trek series), who was famous for his mastery of different accents. Born Canadian, living and working in the US, his possibly greatest claim to fame was his role as Scotsman Montgomery Scott. Thing is, I had just returned from a 3-week vacation in Scotland, and the authentic accent was still very vivid in my mind ... and I noticed when talking to him that his _pronunciation_ was pretty much spot on, but his _intonation_ was still quite Canadian/American. Not very obvious, but noticeable to someone who knew what to listen for. (And no, I didn't mention it...🙂)
