I've noticed that Sunday is usually a pretty slow day for KZbin videos, at least for channels I'm subscribed to. So I'm really glad to see this one. Thanks for keeping things moving on Sunday.

Learning to play bass as a guitarist has been a ton of fun for jamming and recording. Would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to change it up.

Love mine; use it constantly for Country/Roots gigs onstage and I usually ALWAYS take it and end up using it in the studio. I put an aftermarket Fender subsonic neck on an Esquire body that I keep B-B or A-A as well. Really happy they’re widely available again!! Great video, Thanks!

I think I may buy one of these today. What a cool instrument. I’m making some recordings that could use some new sounds. Looks like an inspiring instrument, instant vibes.

I believe Grady Martin used one of these on Marty Robbins’ “Don’t worry about me”. It was recorded through a broken console and became the first fuzz guitar :-)

About 2 years ago I bought a Squier Bass VI and a Tele baritone to see which format I would like. Got both during sales so they were around $350ish each and a good way to try them out and not lose anything. Both were great guitars for what they did but the Bass VI was a better fit for me. Traded off the Tele and kept the Bass VI. I did have to put a Staytrem bridge on the Squier Bass VI so the low E would get in tune, seems that is the only downfall of the Squier. I wouldn't mind trying the Vintera Bass VI to see the difference between it and the Squier, but so far the Squier has been great for what I needed. Sure would love that Custom Shop under my tree this year though, it's a beauty!

I love my VIs, use them all the time, even as the bass in one of my bands (sounds superfluous to say I’m using a bass as a bass, but generally people seem to prefer it as a low-tuned lead instrument). I’d love one of these Vinteras. Great video.

Very nice job on the demo, Baxter. A couple of things on the Squier. It makes sense for someone like me who will play the VI very infrequently. When I bought it, there were significant out-of-the-box setup issues on the Squier VI. I hope they have resolved them by now.

I have a ‘14 Squier VM BVI. Bought it new, did lots of mods to make it better for the bass side of the continuum. It’s fantastic! The BVI fills a cool, narrow niche between a Baritone guitar and a short scale bass guitar. Yeah, it can reasonably bass, it can also reasonably baritone… In the end, it’s really its own thing.

The Bass VI is on my list... I walk the line between being a bass player and playing guitar. I've played a few models in local shops, and they have an unmatched appeal. Fun viddy, y'all! Thanks! 🙏🏻🤍

I have Schecter's take on this, the Hellcat VI. Not really guitar OR bass, I use it in very specific situations, where a different sound is required, because the sound is VERY different from any guitar or traditional bass guitar. I'm using it most frequently in this surf/indie rock three piece, where the upper strings are nice to have when the guitarist goes into a solo. Admittedly, it's seen very limited studio use, just because I prefer the sound of a traditional 34" scale bass in the studio.

I bought a Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI two years ago and being both a guitar player and a four string bass player I adapted to it very quickly. It gives me the ability to play traditional classic rock bass parts and In addition play some solos that are not possible on a standard bass.

cool instrument man.. Merry Christmas guys. Im a bit antisocial so I do all my music ventures with the Boss RC600 Loope. I was thinking an 8 string would be awesome. Top too low strings Id tune to low E/A (Tuned to bass E/A).. Then the other 6 strings just like a guitar. Im figuring I can make basslines in the looper with the E/A ;) Love you guys man. Happy Strumming.

I bought one a couple weeks ago and it’s amazing.. it plays like a guitar but the sound sparks your creativity. It’s actually a riff monster, just put on the bridge pickup, put on the bass roll off switch, distortion and the sound will blow you away.

You can use lighter strings, and tune a bass vi to the baritone range. A Danelectro baritone is 29.75 scale a bass vi is 30. A precision bass is 34.

Nice-like many others, I have become interested (again) in the Bass VI since watching the recent Beatles' documentary. I appreciate the comparison between it and the baritone guitar and the 6-string bass. I've played bass more than anything else, but I was never quite sure what all 3 of those instruments were. I may have to go look on the Fender website now. BTW-I recognized the green Custom Shop Jazz Bass from your web site. It's so cool-one of these days I may have to bite on that one.

@matt. A Bass VI with a slightly heavier string set like the Fender Super 250's, which have a 100 rather than the stock 84 for the low E string, can easilly handle standard bass duties just fine as long as you can adapt to the tighter string spacing. Just use the neck pickup, roll the tone off a bit if needed, and don't play the high B or E strings and nobody will be the wiser. When I saw the band The Church live back in the 1990s I was confused when they first came on stage because there seemed to be three guitar players and no bass player... Once they started playing I quickly figured out that the Bass player had a Fender VI. Sounded amazing through his Ampeg SVT, and until he played some higher notes you would have never known it wasn't a four string bass.

maybe sacrilegious, but I prefer a Bass VI setup for baritone B-B with 12-52s over most baritones, the extra length just makes it feel right. It's fun setup as a traditional Bass VI too, but it doesn't draw me in as much

@SamH. Getting critical about it the bridge is a bit shoddy but for the money it's fine and will do OK. They can be a bit heavy but if you look around a bunch you can find ones under nine pounds. Danelectro is an option as well, it's the original Bass VI having first been available in 1956, five years before the Fender VI. Danelectro doesn't currently officially make a Bass VI but their 29.75" baritones are essentially the same instrument as the old Bass VI if you put Bass VI strings on them. You may have to slightly drill out the low E tuner for some of the heavier string sets but it's not that big a deal as long as you are slow and careful. The Masonite Dano's are a lot lighter than the Squier or Fender VI if that matters to you and they have a bit more zing to their sound. On the budget side there are also the Gearformusic G4M 638 and the Firefly FFJA Baritone. The G4M comes set up as a Bass VI with 24-84 strings like the Squire VI while the Firefly is essentially the same instrument but is set up as a baritone, however like the Danelectro you could put Bass VI strings on it.

I bought an Eastwood TB64 Bass 6 style guitar back in 2022. Totally unhappy with it. The roller bridge is designed for guitar so the fat bass strings keep popping out of the saddles. The vibrato is a joke as it bends the steel of the vibrato rather than actually pivoting as designed. Also, the pickups are weak and thin. But the tuners are great! 😂 Eastwood now sells a version that has a stopbar tailpiece in addition to the vibrato version.

If you are a real bassist this is a "unique instrument all unto itself."I find them more guitar and when playing mine, the too close string spacing is the main drawback.Finger picking is difficult, and I usually use a pick.Bands like the Cure use it best, like a guitar.

The Bass VI, and other Bass VI-type guitars (such as the Schecter Hellcat 6-String Bass) are fun guitars. Unfortunately, yours truly cannot play them, due to the fact that her allrgies to nickel strings, and stainless strings (the chromium in stainless steel), cause her mega dermatitis, and as a result, she can only use Ernie Ball Cobalts (which are cobalt alloy strings). Guess what? They don't make Ernie Ball Cobalts for the Bass VI (or Baritones for that matter) - though, I can play 7-strings, due to Ernie Ball making 7-String Cobalt sets.
