I'm from Illinois and the only time i did have an issue with the snow was that first year. The damn thing had Firestone Firehawk Putsuit tires on it. I got stuck that year once. Otherwise I ran cheap Uniroyal Tiger Paw All seasons, not snow tires, and never got stuck. We have some pretty brutal winters. My 09 P71 did have a 3.55 with Traction-Loc though, too. I got lucky on that set up. I totally agree though that snow tires are a good idea, especially if theyre new to RWD.

@@alecgoodin89 I’ve ran the Tiger Paws too on a previous Vic, it also had the 3.55 rear gears. I found them to be pretty squirrelly on the ice and snow. Those tires were a big reason I went with snows. They were excellent in everything else tho!

I never thought Crown Vics to be awful in the snow. But then again until previous years I really never drove another car in the snow. It’s just knowing your limits, knowing the cars limits and knowing how to compensate for both.

I've had a 2005 Grand Marquis for over seven years and have driven it all the time over black ice and blizzards just like that and worse. Never spun out of control and never needed snow tires, and I would definitely consider owning the same car again. While driving, in the snow or rain, turn off traction control and just drive slow. If you feel the car start to skid on ice, stay calm, look in the direction you want to go, and turn the wheel just enough to keep the car straight. The trunk is huge. Dress warmly and keep a good, large snow shovel and scraper in the trunk. For this particular situation, I would've leveled the snow in front and back with my shovel, to make it easier, then cleared it all the way through. Yes, it's definitely lot of work, but once you get on the road, the worst is behind you unless you have to park in a snowy driveway. In that case, more shoveling is required. If the car is stuck, don't hold down on the accelerator. Instead, give a few short taps. It will usually work its way over the snow. Hope this helps! These cars really are amazing!

@@JustAZillennial Out of all the panthers I’ve owned, my 04’ Grand Marquis was the best in the snow. The traction control on it did an excellent job keeping the car moving. All my other Vics were P71’s that didn’t have traction control. My current Vic has an open differential, no traction control. It really needs snow tires. But with proper snow tires it doesn’t miss a beat and I have no issues getting anywhere. I’ve found these cars to be exceptionally predictable in the snow and in over a decade of driving them have only been stuck once. And that was my own fault as I pulled off the road into a ditch that I couldn’t see under the snow to help another motorist who was stuck in the snow.

Im guilty of running summer tires on the rear in my rwd 84 supra a few winters ago with all seasons in the front since i cant find 265/55/15s. Although snow tires will definitely help, it also depends on your experience level driving in bad weather with rwd.

@@Racer973 I’ll concur. Having experience with the specific car and learning its dynamics in the snow and wet helps a lot, but the snow tires absolutely make a huge difference. Much better grip, stopping power and cornering. Why not give your car a little better advantage if you can?

Not a good idea. Snow tires are a softer tire compound, to provide the best grip in cold and icy conditions. In summer, the hot temperatures and the softer rubber compound of snow tires will make them wear very quickly.

Let me get something straight love the crown Vic I would trade my BMW for one in a heartbeat anyway snow tires are a waste of money a regular All season will do the job just fine
@DirtyDanMunicipalMan2 жыл бұрын
I'm assuming you don't live somewhere that gets substantial snow. Snow tires are definitely NOT a waste of money. Snow tires have different rubber compounds that are designed to stay soft in the cold temperatures so the tires will grip, theyve got specially designed sipes to eject slush and water for maximum traction in the cold. You might look on paper and say "All seasons are just fine, why do I want to buy snow tires just cause I can stop 5 feet shorter?" That 5 feet could be the difference between sliding thru a crosswalk and hitting someone or actually stopping in time. Not to mention I've owned 10 Crown Vics and every single one I drove with all season tires absolutely sucked in any kind of deep snow over 4-5 inches. If you live in a place that doesn't get more then a few inches of snow a year, then yes, snow tires aren't worth it. If you're like me and you live in a place like Buffalo, where it just dumped 4 feet of snow us last night, you need snow tires.

@@whiteviper1979 once they’re in there kind of in the tire. I don’t think they can be removed. They won’t wear down immediately on dry pavement. They’ll be loud and noisy, but they won’t wear down.
