Greetings from Finland, from middle of the snow. Cool to watch out these videos, great job! Maybe try using a wide tire or a big rim (perhaps more stable prevent falling) on that edge to raise the winch rope higher, so that the pull does not come against the edge, this way the rear of the towed car rises a little before coming over the edge to flat. I´ve been using this trick couple of times to get towed vehicle rising a little bit, of course it need´s a solid ground or some sturdy stuff underneath that wheel.

Considering they’re using two ropes/winches to pull it out - I don’t see how that’d be feasible Also they’re on the very edge of the hill and their winches are above their front bumpers How they’re going to get a wheel underneath that, i have no clue. I see what your logic is but that doesn’t seem very reasonable considering the conditions.
@olli-pekkasiponen5859
@olli-pekkasiponen5859 Жыл бұрын
@@ac3tate909 of course situations and equipments are different, like you said they had two strong winches to pull, so they got it out that way. I mean that moment when they back up and started to drag vehicle ovet the edge, in about 15 minute in video, when towed vehicle is still over edge, in that point if you get winch line higher and off from ground, that would help a bit. At least if you have weak winch and poor grip, thats my experience. Log is also good. And in my case, these were situations I haven’t prepared at all, so had to go with those equipment I had and found.

I dont comment very often, most things are said, but I just have to say the amount of overall enjoyment I get from Matt and the MORR team is on another level. Every video just gets better, they really take the time to produce the best content they can. Watching the channel evolve and keep growing without sacrificing the family feel and working as a team with all the changes they have gone through is great to see. This recovery showed a lot of skill and trust in your equipment. Really challenging with the equipment you used and those crazy pull angles! Thanks for taking us along!

I've questioned the reliability of the Badlands Apex 12k for a long time. But Matt and Paul have shown what these things can do. My dad and stepmom bought me one as a combined birthday and Christmas present. And this video made me a complete believer in these Apex winches. I'm sure there were cool down cycles but good lord that was a lot of hard winching. Matt wasn't kidding when he said that was a job for a twin line wrecker. Great job Matt and crew.

Good on you guys for pulling it out with what you had to work with. Can't be easy. We just send a 5 ton wrecker and it's a cake walk. Or with a semi down the bank we send one of our rotators. But what you guys can do with with 20,000 worth of old cars is impressive. When we get compliments on our recoveries I alway chuckle, because we have a huge fleet millions invested and having all the tools basically takes the skill out of. I have newbies that could pull that car out in their sleep with our little 5 ton wreckers, but these same newbies couldn't pull a shopping cart with the rigging you guys have. Good on you guys, I'm amazed at what you accomplish

As impressive as the recoveries are, I'm always amazed at Matt out there in the cold with just a short sleeve shirt on. He must be part polar bear. We just had a front come through yesterday and the temps dropped like a rock. It is currently 46° and sunny here in South Florida. I'm inside and I'm cold just watching this video. I don't know how he does it.

Me, too! My hands would've been frozen in no time, esp. as they said it was ZERO. As for temps, I think we adjust to wherever we're living. Back in LA, a rare 46F would've been what we called "bone-chilling", but here in Boston where I'm from, that's mild for winter. Yet to hear SoFL is still that cold, after the conditions there over the holidays, is kinda depressing.

From a guy who drives work in the prairies of Canada. I promise homie slammed the brakes and didn’t release them. When winter driving- if going too fast, slam the brakes, weight shift will make you turn the direction of your steer tires, release brakes, pedal the gas. If you keep sliding say a prayer and do the same steps.

@russbrinton367

I wonder if digging the snowbank down to pavement in the first place would have helped. And for breakovers like that you need to hook on to the front wheels and pull there at the break over point. At the end you were pulling the van INTO the hill, not up the hill by pulling on the rear wheels and a horizontal pull from the rigs, that is why it was so hard at the end. Good job at figuring it out and getting it out with what you had.

Def a rollback would have let them pick over the edge at the top. With them pulling on the wheels there's no way the rear wheels would have turned. Even if it was four-wheel drive which I don't think it was. This guy got into this accident because he was driving too fast with touring all season tires.
