I‘ve been using renoise on laptop for a bit and love it for the Shortcuts on the Keyboard. I‘m a lefthander and top to bottom arrangement is perfect for how my lefthander brain works. I have bought the tracker two weeks ago and i have to say i don‘t enjoy it as much as renoise with the keyboard because most of the action on the tracker is handeled by the right hand and my left hand only plays a few notes from time to time. If only the big command wheel was on the left side. Still love my mpc 2000 xl for that matter.

Actually before you buy this try Renoise first to get the work flow down same thing trust me Renoise is a tracker 75.00 Polyend tracker 600.00 and they both have the same look as for as SEQ goes.

Thanks for the video. I just received mine and am learning to use it. It is much easier to use than my MPC Live. One problem, the arrow and shift keys stick. This is not a huge issue but unexpected with a product of this quality.

Would this work well for somebody that wants to get into electronic music and experimenting? Is it intuitive enough that somebody that has some musical background could figure it out relatively quick? Also, would it be good if you mostly wanted to use it for drum programming complex patterns and being able to utilize with a synth? Whats the connectivity with other instruments and devices? I need to know cuz I will probably buy this in a heartbeat if it fits what I want to eventually do with it

That’s exactly what you want is Trackwr - it can control outboard midi instruments like a synth and be it’s brain for BPM

Thank you for this video. Dig the zen delivery. I see the push 2 back there...how do yo compare both? I have yet to see one video of someone performing with just laptop and push 2.. any idea why ? Would you ever consider performing in said way?

Thanks Will! Yes I have performed with the push, but I mostly use it during the writing process. I'm not sure why you haven't seen it used that way. Perhaps because the push (in my experience) is mostly great for launching clips and controlling ableton instruments/sounds. I think a lot of people prefer to use many different synths/sound sources and are a bit too lazy to create all the mappings to their software. There are some great performances with the push 2 though! That's just my best guess.

@@et4able Sold my Push 2 (as soon as Push 3 was announced). I always needed to still reach for the mouse and keypads when using Push 2 so I dont miss it. Will wait till Push 3 price drops and gets reviews and decide.

The per project sample time limit is 133 seconds, so you run out of space really quick. It's more about taking 1 shot samples and manipulating them into something cool. You could record a few chords on the guitar and loop them for example.

Hey Evan, this is an excellent review of the P Tracker! I have been looking into this device and have not been able to find the answer to a question. I wondering if you or the community may be able to answer this. I understand it can time stretch a sample, but I'm wondering if it time stretches as it plays the sample chromatically. For example if you play a sample chromatically, is the length/duration the same for say C4 as it is for C2?

Sorry for the late reply! The duration of the note will change, but most of the time that doesn't matter. It is a downside though! You can, however, do time stretching as a rendered (not real-time) effect. If you want to play a single piano sample (for example) as a melody just make sure the original sample is long enough to last in higher registers. It will mostly sound realistic until you get really high, and then it becomes a creative effect, lol.

Do you think the tracker is something best on its own or with other samplers/synthesizers? I have an MPC one so I'm not looking for another do it all machine, I want gear to compliment one another and work together in harmony instead of fighting for the spotlight. Your thoughts would be appreciated!

I think it all depends on whether or not you’re eyeing any other synths at the moment. If the tracker seems inspiring to you, I wouldn’t let the fact that you have another main brain device like the MPC stop you from exploring it- variety is the spice of life after all! If you are in fact looking at a particular synth/drum machine/effects pedal that is equally as interesting as the tracker, I would go with one of those instead though! Then you are avoiding any redundancies and still getting something new! Or you could be like me and impulsively buy both. I’m sure you deserve it.

They are 2 completely different boxes and approaches to making music and sounds. I use my Tracker then put away for a few months and switch to Live 2, or Octatrack, Analog 4, Akai 404 mk 2, etc.

Great Q! Not automatically but you can use the "Timestretch Beat" effect in the sample editor menu to change the tempo. It works well!
