I love going down the tire rabbit hole ! So many choices. No right or wrong answer, just have to find what works for you. Would Like to see a video on how width effects performance in climbing and cornering etc. interesting to see some bike manufacturers spec a wide rear tire , some same size as front and a new trend of a skinnier rear tire. I assume the new skinny rear trend is to whip around corners but can’t help too much on climbing .

For trails in and around Aberdeenshire Scotland on my Turbo Levo I had Butcher Grid's but recently fitted Schwalbe Eddy Current Front & Rear, and so far haven't been disappointed, tons of grip and no punctures going DH while running between 25-30psi..

My situation tire punctures was definitely a consideration so I opted with the heavy duty tire. I switched from Schwalbe Knobby Nicks and went with the Vittoria E-Mazza, claimed 2.6 inches wide, but it’s actually 2.5, they are a incredible hill climber, here in Colorado Springs it’s varied conditions from dirt to hard pack, rock, gravel some sand, I have 40 miles on the tires so far I do say I am pleased with the switch, also they roll nice too.

"Inflate your tyres higher so you can get a longer ride in" That goes against all the research showing lower tyre pressure (to a point) gives less rolling resistance on anything but a perfectly smooth surface.

We are on Specialized Levo and Turbo Levo Expert. We have the standard tires but am having a heck of a time with pressure., Our trails around here are sandy with rock sections. I am a heavy rider and my wife is of course lighter. The main issue I have is sliding in corners, like no grip. Is a higher pressure better or lower for grip on those conditions?

You guys cover tyres a bit and obviously do a lot of riding. Have you ever done comparisons with running the tyres backwards compared to there correct orientaion?
@bradtrent52984 жыл бұрын
Why does tire pressure ALWAYS get treated like a red-headed stepchild?!! You literally said nothing about pressure besides, “get it right!”...how about telling us what IS right?!! I know it all depends on rider weight, conditions, type of trail and a slew of other factors, but nobody ever tosses out basic starting points. And on the few occasions I do see somebody mention tire pressure, it usually is so far off from what I ride that I wonder if I’m nuts or the guy posting the video! I’m currently running 14lbs rear & 12lbs front on a Canyon Spectral ON with Minions 2.5/2.6 and I’m 185lbs, yet I see guys claiming that I should be running at 20/24lbs! If I was I’d be bouncing off every rock on the trail!!! So...am I nuts?!!
@DiamondEyeMcGee4 жыл бұрын
norco has a sweet tire pressure calculator that takes into account rider weight, ability and so on. very useful. I don't think 14 and 12 is nuts, but if you go fast through the rough stuff or big compressions, you will be rolling the tire, possibly puncturing it, and damaging your rims.
@stevejones79564 жыл бұрын
Hi Brad, the aim of this particular vid was six facts you need to tune into rather than a specific 'how to' of tyre pressure. We have those vids too. What weight are you? 14 sounds pretty low, although we've done 6psi on some rocks this year on slow speed conditions
@bradtrent52984 жыл бұрын
@@stevejones7956 I’m 185lbs...and I’ve been riding everything from rock gardens to pounded-down single track...but when I get the pressure over 15lbs on the front tire, things start getting squirrelly!
