Just bought a 1991 EF Civic with a B18/ B1 already swapped in for $2000. Just needed a fuel pump replacement and it fired right up. Its a non-VTEC motor but...good Lord....incredibly fast. The power is really fun and these cars can handle like a dream. I have had 2 EF Civics with the original D series motors in the past and..... I highly recommend buying one with a B18 or B16. These cars are definately getting more rare, year after year. You never see any on the road anymore. I live in Dallas Tx and when I drive around...everybody just stares at my car...lol.

Agreed...I've been into these cars for over 20 years...on and off. The pricing is steadily rising and parts are definitely harder to find. Stuff I used to give or throw away is actually somewhat difficult to come across.

They'll sit on parts and let them rot before they let them go to a deserving owner. Opinion: I think the common owner will not delve into EFs, EGs, and EKs; they'll be quick to dump them and jump onto an easier platform when the Car market bubble pops.

Spot on video, even down to the economic opinion. Definitely won't go down, pandemic raised the pricing on the overall car market but the interest gained over the pandemic for the old school enthusiast market definitely grew. As you said, with this growth and just inherent lack of supply the pricing won't be going down--unless interest goes down. Interest might go down due to overzealous enthusiasts not understanding that "easy to mod for cheap" doesn't mean "easy to do", work is work at the end of the day. Takes a lot of effort to make a POS econo-box a performance enthusiast machine. Hopefully they will jump ship? Any car platform modded "right" quote on quote, will cost $30K for all the bells and whistles and at the end of the day--30K is 30K.

So I'm a Honda guy through and through 🤷 BUT LET ME SAY THIS..... I grew up when the scene was really starting to blow up in the early 2000s and even before I got my license in 2006 my mom used to take me to the street races in her brand new 99 Civic SI at the time she had full bolt-ons on that b16 it was a very clean and simple build that started my love for the Hondas that and the very first fast and the furious 🤘🤘 Ever since I seen that first movie when it first came out I always said I was going to get a 92-95 Civic Coupe like the three black one's that steal the semi But I watched how much the scene has changed over the last two decades...... I remember body kits big spoilers neon light stickers everywhere when these cars were still fairly new then I remember from the mid-2000s up until 2010 to 2015 it was all about having to clean simple JDM look before these Stanced out cars really started to take over.. I've owned 20 Hondas since I got my license and I also own that 95 Civic Coupe ex that I always wanted unlike the civics in the fast and the furious movie it is a clean simple JDM inspired build with front lip rear lip nice Wheels complete suspension mods and a built k24 block in K20 head nothing but to racing seats and a roll cage on the inside but before I did that I had built the d16z 6 that it came with and I wanted to be different I built that thing all motor naturally aspirated and I had almost 200 hp all motor d-series which was almost unheard-of💯 WHEN I BOUGHT MY CIVIC ALMOST 10 YEARS AGO AND MANY OF MY HONDA'S UP UNTIL RIGHT WHEN COVID HAPPENED I WAS BUYING CLEAN CIVICS AND INTEGRA'S AND CRX'S FOR 1000-1500 BUCKS 2,000-2500 IF YOU WANTED SOMETHING B SWAPPED AND REALLY NICE Hell I got my 95 Civic Coupe ex with every option they came with and a custom black and candy blue with tons of metallic flake in the paint paint job meant interior perfect body healthy motor low mileage for 1,500 bucks now people want to charge three four five grand for the beat-up d-series with 300,000 mi on it I know these cars are getting harder to find in their becoming classics but it's just crazy with some of these people think their car is worth now if you have a nice clean example whether its stock or modified I can understand asking more money for them in this day and age but for the people that have the beat-up piece of s*** ones that still think they do everybody else's charging a lot I can charge for Grand for my shitbox that's ridiculous and it used to be you never got your money back out of a car when you sold it especially when you put A lot into it when it came to these cars Times have changed the scene is definitely not as big as it used to be because most people buy newer import cars now I definitely miss the days when there were so many Honda's especially here in Seattle or on the west coast in general that I could literally go for a 10-minute drive and always find another Honda or another import similar to race now it's just not like that anymore AND LASTLY our street races here at been so big all the way back to when my grandpa was a kid in the 60s that they even did a national geographic episode on our street races here in Kent Washington back in 2010 I think it's still on KZbin we would always have 500 to 1000 cars every single weekend and yes they'd have imports muscle cars trucks street bikes little bit of everything lowriders but up until probably 20 16 or 17 the majority was Honda's the scene was huge fairly early 2000's up until probably the last 5 years it's still big up here but just nothing like it used to be..... I got lucky 2 years ago buying my EF sedan. I got for $800 bucks off an old lady. It ran but had a blown head gasket, few dents and rust spots here and there. I’ve since then swapped a B18 LS, and it’s super fun

I have a 1990 Honda Civic EF Si sitting in my garage and completely covered. It's bone stock, has 140k original miles, is a 5 speed manual transmission and still has zero problems starting. The only flaw it currently has is the paint isn't the greatest condition, and the little rubber/plastic trim on the top of the car has started to dry out and separate from the top of the car. Both very minor things to fix. My daily is an Audi S4 and I've been keeping the Civic out in my garage covered up just waiting for the day I decide to swap a B, or K series engine into her. I'm not much of a car guy though so have no idea how to do swaps etc. Otherwise, the work would've already been done!

Just bought an Ef hatch from an elderely lady for $900! Changed the head gasket last night. And swapped the head from a 91 crx (d15b2). It's manafactured in Canada and has gray leather seats that i havent seen in an ef before. Looked online seen the rear seats going for $700! Definitely glad with the purchase. Also bought a 91 crx in summer for $1,500! Bought a d16z6 from ebay but the whole motor was sh*t. Rusted cylinder walls and blown motor. Had an extra rod bearing for some weird reason smh. So now thats going to take a while to get that motor in good shape. Looking to make 400+ hp once its finished.

Prices vary. I’m here in Cali, and you can find them for anywhere from 1k to 3K at the most. If you want a hatch, the EG is going to run you maybe 4k. Don’t even get me started on the EK hatches. 😭🤦🏻‍♂️

80s-90s goden era hondas are too fucking expensive nowadays (subject per individual). A clapped out ef that needs A LOT of work are around 4k USD. (This probably only applies to california) a BAR'D b16/18/h22//etc ef/ek/eg/ej/dc/db/da/ee/crx/etc will run a minimum of 10k on average if it's a turn key with zero problems. 12-16k if paint and interior is also in good shape. In the early 2000s these could be had for 3-6k all day in excellent condition in and out. With that said at the price point there isn't that much better fun, reliability, and the prices will still continue to appreciate...

Cars don't feel as raw as these anymore...the drive by wire throttle has a delay on acceleration and you'll have to $ buy a separate device to program the throttle to respond quickly which is unfair but I guess it's more efficient 🤔

Personally, I would choose the EG since it is already obd1, which makes things easier to modify and still comply with emissions regulations (if you need to worry about that). And I think it looks better :) Otherwise, I am not sure that there is much technological difference other than power windows (not on Hatches, though), it is easier to put a double din radio in an EK, and parts are probably generally easier to find for an EK since they are newer.

Two 91 Si black Hatchbacks, one a legal driver but has 213k and a little gnarly and the other is a messed up title complete donor sans powertrain, 500 in front end refresh from RockAuto, and a EF shop repair manual for 4500? Would you jump on it?

@@gusandcars it has some rusted through parts on the rockers and wheel arches. Typical old EF stuff. I know that body repair on these for the rust patches isn’t super hard as long as the uni-body areas aren’t roached. I still have to look at the donor again to see if it’s as bad or better. Either that or I can hunt down a decent Prelude Si 92-96 for that price range.

Be patient. Search in diffrent places and stay away from the "second owners,I know what I have,and low mileage" sellers😂. I bought a 90crx for 1200. Granted it had a blue interior with the seats beat,and it being the less sought after automatic. The body is solid and it runs great. Again Be patient and stay away from the flippers trying to get makes 1000s in profit.
