Quarry dives are a great way to stay in practice if you are landlocked, and for new divers to improve boyancy and comfort in the water. Quarry dives are still more fun than not diving, and make you appreciate the Caribbean dives even more.. We dive in Philadelphia Quarry and Gray Quarry, both in east Tennessee, USA.

Yup, I dive in a quarry that’s spring fed in Pelham, Alabama. Blue water park. I love it. Goes from 4 ft to 140ft. Lots of different “attractions” underwater, a couple sail boats, some old fire trucks, cars, boats, an old vault, and even a plane.

I started diving in Egypt around 3 years ago and then had to face the cold dark reality of diving in and around Berlin, where I live. We have lots of lakes around here and even some decent wrecks in a couple of the old shipping channels but it's kind hard right turn compared to diving in and around Ras Muhammad. Last year I was diving in Italy and the dive master took a look at my logbook and said 'okay I don't need to worry about you'. I asked him what made him think that and he said 'Well you dive in cold as s--t lakes with no viz and only a compass to guide you. You'll do fine here.'

I dive lake Jocassee in SC at Devil's Fork State Park. Google it. Looks like tropical water if it's clear. plane, boats, etc. on the bottom. Even a graveyard !!! Waterfalls and dive shop on the lake. Beautiful

Lake Pleasant, Arizona here! It's not a lake and it's definitely not pleasant, but it's good training! I'll take N. Florida caves over this green soup anytime though.

Any of the Great Lakes, but Huron’s the best. Amazing wrecks and the vis is top notch.

I have found that lake's have 1 major drawback besides what is mentioned: 4 dives short after each other makes your dive computer go beep beep and forces you out of the the water or suffer the consequences.

totally didn't mention the lakes that have ghost towns in them. most lakes in the US are man-made so sometimes when in the process of making the lake they don't knock down all the buildings first. Sometimes this is planned and sometimes its because a hurricane came through and filled in the lake early.
