This is a first look at Gravity Sketch for iPad. In this video, I go through an industrial design workflow where I start with a 2D sketch in Gravity Sketch, turn it into 3D, take some screenshots, and finally sketch a few iterations of the design in Procreate. I think it's a viable process that could be used in any industrial design and development workflow.

It would be very interesting to see a series on mobile and desktop design workflow, its best practices and even industry standard (as well as some alternative) software reviews. A series that could provide answers - based on your own experience - to questions such as: Why (or why not) an iPad over a cheap Wacom? What scenarios would better fit certain hardware purchases? Which design tools should you expect from an employer? Which alternatives would you suggest for a freelancer in comparison? Another video I'm still waiting for you to make: Electrospit design process (hot damn!) and Zume packaging (maybe a packaging series?). Thanks for the great content you've been putting out, professor. As an ID student it's quite fascinating.

I would say that there isn't really an industry standard with this stuff. It's highly personalized and individualized. My process is a little bit more sketch-heavy. I do an insane number of underlays like this. I also do a LOT of crappy thumbnails that no one is ever supposed to see (except me). It also heavily depends on the project. Some of them require more prototyping and modelmaking, while others require more sketching.I think that's why I struggle with it. In terms of the professional projects I've done, I intentionally don't cover them for several reasons. One reason is that I want to be able to speak openly about the projects, which I can't do if a client is paying for them. Imagine if a client paid me a bunch of money to do a project and I made a KZbin video about everything that is wrong with the product....probably wouldn't go over so well. I might do a process video for a personal project...but even then, I'm hesitant for a bunch of other reasons that I won't get into because this comment is already too long.

Those are some sick glasses. I’m gonna check out this app. I started stick welding a couple months ago, and it be cool to have something to help me better plan out what I’m making. Up til now I’ve just done some shelves, but I want to make a roll bar for my truck.

Thanks man. Yeah Gravity Sketch is fun. But honestly, 2D paper and pen works great for planning. It's by far the most common tool that I use.

I have a sketching video that you can watch. It's not specific to photoshop, but all of the same rules apply no matter what application you use

I use Rhino, but it depends entirely on what kind of work you're doing and what company you're working for.

Hi! Is gravity sketch could replace blender's grease pencil? If no is there any app you know for that purpose?

Soon as I saw the vector editing and 3D modelling I knew I was gonna like this app and so I went to check its price... Its free ????? Definitelly glad I watched this video because it seems this little gem got lost in the app store and went under my radar somehow

I think it's insane that it's free honestly. You should check out their VR app if you get a chance.
