As I explore the feelings of inadequacy that I have for myself, I feel like I'm peeling away the layers and finding all of kinds of things I wasn't expecting.
Maybe even my focus on structure and productivity is a distraction from something even deeper, something even more valuable that I should be paying closer attention to: the present moment.

"There's no getting there. We're already there." The shot seems to move forward towards the island while maintaining a stationary perspective, representing the illusion of progress in life. The island represents a future goal for him and his work is to just enjoy admiring it from the shore. Reminds me of To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf. We're all drawn in to our desires inexplicably and often they don't hold the fulfillment we seek. It's about appreciating what we have in the present moment. Nathaniel, you are a genius and your cinematography is poetry.

Being both an INFJ and Highly sensitive person, I really can feel those behind the scene thoughts of yours. I'm in my final year of undsrgrad, and for last 1 year, my intuitions are screaming to tell me, I'm in a wrong movie, I'm heading towards wrong direction. But the family and society expectations are so much and everything is so fast speed, that now pausing for a moment to check whether I'm on right path or not, or which direction I should go, this pausing is felte like I'm less capable. Slow living, or experiencing, learning from the mistakes these don't exist anymore. Careers and paths are more fixed than pre destiny. I'm getting physically and mentally sick out of it.

I live in Italy, I studied latin and ancient greek for about five years in my highschool and I always hear people saying that studying those subjects is useless. I really appreciated the fact that you have actually understood them and you put what they said in your life: in facts it’s not that common! I see some of my schoolmates leaving Seneca’s ideas on their literature books, instead of reacting to his statements like you did. So I really appreciated your reaction: you have just given them back their worth.

"Il dolce far niente", as they say in Italian, is becoming a lost art. I encourage you to visit small Italian villages and spend time with the locals, I'm sure you can find someone who still enjoys and cherishes taking things slow and the small pleasures in life here somewhere. I am very grateful to have been born and brought up in such a place, sometimes it is the most banal and simple things that we tend to overlook and forget as we strive for success in the madly accelerated way of living of our times. Greetings from a small village near Florence!

“There’s no getting there. We’re already there”. This is something I’ve also discovered a lot lately. I keep thinking that there’s some “point” I’ll get to and then I’ll be successful. A certain award. Acclaim from a certain person. A certain number of people who look up to me. But just thinking about how I’ve already achieved what I didn’t think possible a year ago in my personal and professional goals and growth and yet still I think I’m not “there yet” has made me reflect a lot and realize that I never will be there because there is no point to get to. Just the present moment, with the person inside of me who more or less will never change and I need to learn how to be satisfied with and love.

"This is life that is happening right now, there is no getting there, we are already there.". That one got me. I realize that my happiest moments aren't based on holidays, time off, material, they come when I just appreciate what I already am, what I already have, people in my life, giving my self some time to really think and enjoy the process of life. Whether I am at work helping costumers with their shoes, at my other job tutoring and helping children out, If I'm studying for my classes or just working out. Of course, we all want to be "somewhere" we aren't, it doesn't mean we can't appreciate where we are now. Just makes the process that much easier... that much more enjoyable.

Damn dude, your filmmaking is on point. Every single video you seem to improve. You inspire me to step outside of my comfort zone and become more productive. I have even started experimenting with KZbin videos about personal finance as a way to educate myself. Keep doing what you are doing, thank you!

“Time wasters” is purely subjective, unless you define what your goal is. Planning for the future makes sense if it helps attain your goals, commuting can be positive if you get work done on a train or listen to podcasts and only commute because it saves you thousands of dollars due to a cheaper home, arguing with people can, if done correctly, allow you to gain information about a subject you wouldn’t normally be exposed to. It really depends what you want.

I've said this before but I've been following this channel for quite a while and the quality of the content here just never seizes to amaze me. The way you tell your stories, the cinematography, it just draws you in. The content here has really helped me through times when I felt lost and has often provided me with a new perspective from which to view things. I feel like this channel has become a part of me and I really appreciate the hardwork you put into this.

Thank you for sharing. When you quoted Seneca, it reminded me that “time is only wasted if I waste it”. This was my response to people who told me “what a waste of time”, for certain decisions I made such as flight timings. I realised that I am the one using this time and not them. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, always.

when I come across a video like this I feel less alone and reminded that there's always another brother at the end of the world who thinks exactly like you and asks the questions about life that you do. you may never meet, but you're both there, you exist - and that is what counts. thanks for this great video. love and one more sub from Germany

Omg I resonate with this soooooo much. The anxiety I feel over being productive and moving forward. It literally disables me when I stress over it, which extends for hours. I always want things to move faster. I’m learning to rest and relax and live in the moment. I loved this video, thank you

Recently, I've been trying to remember that even upto now, we are evolving as humans and we hear this all the time but we forget. The way we live, treat each other, our environments, everything. So instead of trying to control, we just really have to flow with it but with mindfulness of where things might go. Everytime I get lost at work or a task, I do my best to ask myself "What am I trying to accomplish here again?". It helps.

Two years ago, while my friend visited me in college, she said to me, "You know, you're really busy, but what are you really doing with your time?" I remember feeling defensive at first because I knew what she said was true. I had to take a step back and ask myself, "Why are you so busy?" I realized the busier I seemed, the more likely I will be viewed as successful or involved. The reality was that I was busy, but not productive. I was doing something for the sake of doing it. Since then, I do my best to hone in on my intentions. Nathaniel, since you have experience traveling, how does this need to be busy present itself in different cultures (or maybe it doesn't). Would love to hear about it!
