I cannot thank you enough for the tutorial you made regarding my questions. Too many people slice like crazy or just return short balls in the recreational level and i believe it is essential to put away these balls if i want to develop as a player. Very nice video again adressing real problems this type of shot is also on the second serve beginner intermidiate level whrere the ball floats medium high at the net level if i put power its going to the net or Long if i place the ball is 99% in I want to play with power to that shot but it is difficult because you have to go little below and flat and the close the follow through at the same time

Hi Will, I notice you didn’t mention the slice FH and slice BH on short balls. At club level, and Vet level, allot of players are late getting to a short ball, would you advise they use a slice to keep the ball in play, or even if they have the skill, to knife a short ball with a slice say down the line and come to the net. Any thoughts? Cheers, charlie from London.
@ironwilltennis
@ironwilltennis Жыл бұрын
I am definitely not against that as an option. I actually like to use it to put contact point pressure on my opponent as well as give myself approach time. I didn't mention here only because of the specific question that was asked

Hi Will love your channel. I'm in my 60s and my greatest challenge in tennis is trying to avoid injuries. As you get older your game changes because of the physical restraints of age. My question is are there any techniques in tennis that are more arm friendly as you get older. I use a one handed backhand and thinking of learning two handed to stop getting tennis elbow. Thank You.
@ironwilltennis
@ironwilltennis Жыл бұрын
I'd love to help you our with this one. There are many little tweaks that can be made that are more are friendly 😁 I don't think completely going 2 hands is necessary but I leave that decision to you. Would you mind contacting me directly?

Good stuff. Can you talk about hitting winners and sitters up the middle? I’m starting to see more pros go up the middle which is smart. Most people hit to the open court and sometimes they miss. Is up the middle a good play?
@ironwilltennis
@ironwilltennis Жыл бұрын
Up the middle is a great play "IF" you have hit enough solid short balls that you opponent is forced to to respect your ability to take their time away. Once that is established then they will cheat to one side as they try to anticipate the winner direction

Hi Will, Question on how to handle a ball that's below the knee or lower and inside the court. Should I get my body low and try to swing thru with the ball in front OR should I reach down from a more upright posture and try to lift it? These shots often go long when I use either technique. Thanks in advance.
@ironwilltennis
@ironwilltennis Жыл бұрын
Either is a good choice actually 👌 it just depends on if the ball itself is rising or falling when you strike it. If it's rising the then hitting through is good because the ball will naturally deflect upwards and clear the net. If it's falling, then the other option of lifting is appropriate. You should bend at least a little in either situation though.

Love the tutorials. Great work. I've watched a lot of you tube videos about the role of the wrist on the forehead. There seems to be a fair difference of opinion. What's your take on it?
@ironwilltennis
@ironwilltennis Жыл бұрын
I am on the side of shape through the motion of the shoulder which is a bigger hinge and easier to control. And then accentuate with the wrist if you decide

great coaching - what i d like to see is how to actually flatten out your shots, often times in that position my intention is to get a flat low ball (but you never really hit flat, you always put some spin on it) but i find that i put too much spin and the ball does not get enough of a straight line, i m trying to extend my arm forward to penetrate the ball in a linear way but somehow the spin I put slow down the ball too much and when playing a fast player i then get a passing shot or lob
@ironwilltennis

I think I can help with that

Hi coach will, your videos help immensely. Can you do a clinic on running backhand save ball? Not sure of the technical term and I found few resources on the internet. When the opponent hit a wide-angle flat shot down the line to my backend, I have trouble returning. I know one can reach for the ball with his body facing behind the player and do a 360 rotation like those badminton players do, but I can never time correctly or the shot feels weak. I can save the forehand shots pretty ok by using an fh slice, but bh feels like it's against human anatomy, and it's weak to rotate the wrist outward. Basically, should I just block to do a lob, or should I use my wrist to add more pressure (which really takes away my timing.) or is there any footwork that can help one save more extreme balls on the backhand side?

can you make a video on how to use the hips in the baseline forehand? specifically, how much initiation is really necessary, should you 'fall forward' during the shot before bringing your rear foot around. Does your upper body move forward a little bit more than your hip area, or do you keep your upright posture and only move forward by allowing your legs to flex/move. thx, great videos.

I've played tennis for about 8 years, but there is still a shot that i can't hit. I learned tennis mostly by playing rally game with my brother, so i lack the volley. Especially the volley that can penetrate the court laser-like. My volley is kind of float-ish, so i become nervous when i close the net. I also have been trained by some local tennis coaches around, but none could really pinpoint the main factor behind it. Could you make a video about it? Laser-like volley that can really penetrate the court.

Will: Great content you are delivering. Could you do the following: I have been working on the ‘2nd shot’ with my coach. Meaning: I serve he returns deep and I hit my second shot. Another exercise is We really backhand cross court . Whoever gets to hit a forehand starts the point. That then is not a 2nd shot per se but equally challenging the one who hits the forehand gets the receiver ideally in a tougher position outside the comfort of cross court back and forth. Would be interesting to see you elaborate on that one … regards from Singapore
