Thanks for this vid ... I thought it was me ... not getting the loop "perfect" ... running off beat at 16 or 20 bars and having to restart the drum kit .... also I joined your web site .. thanks ,,

Since I started using a looper, the TCE Ditto in fact, my soloing skill has exploded. You can noodle around all day but when you start relating your solo to the chords and landing on the right notes, people start to think you're a guitarist or something. Keep the great videos coming, my dude.

I feel honored. I commented very recently about potentially buying a looper pedal and you recommended it. Today I bought myself an RC-30 and on my way out from the store, I checked youtube and you've already uploaded a looper pedal guide. Thanks a ton! 😎

Actually, the cheapest looper pedal on the market, the $30 Rowin Nano Looper (sometimes branded as Ammoon), also has data storage that you can transfer to your PC via USB for the single loop it stores. The loop is 10 minutes max and isn't deleted when you unplug it.

Good video. The thing that finally enabled me to get the timing right was the realisation that with every other pedal, you usually press it just before the beat to ensure the effect is on when you hit the next note or chord, but with a looper, you need to click smack on the beat. Making that adjustment took a bit of practice, but once you've got it down you're good to go.

In my experience loop pedals that require a double tap to STOP the loop PLAYBACK are the hardest to use. Digitech used to use a tap method like this: Tap - Arm looper to start recording at first sound Tap - Stop loop RECORDING Tap - TOGGLE Loop PLAYBACK off and on Hold - OVERDUB This worked really well for live performance. You could easily stop and start the loop so that you could have solos mid song or es the loop for choruses but not during a verse. The double tap to STOP playback requires the performer to be able to tap a particular speed REGARDLESS of what tempo or rhythm they are playing/singing at. This can be very tricky.

Making a loop with the number of bars you want is one of the biggest challenges of making tight loops with a looper. For convenience, some loopers with built-in metronome automatically quantize the loop length on 1 beat. The lower the tempo (BPM), the longer 1 beat takes and the easier it is to get a tight loop.

Great Video! In my personal opinion, I think the Boss RC series are the most 'accurate'. Meaning, the pedal is rock solid and as long as your timing is good, the pedal is good :) I have tried others and the pedal feels 'flimsy' or not as accurate if that makes sense.

The switches are not that great in cheap pedals. I own the ditto in this video, and you really have to hit it hard/fast if you want the switch to engage when you mean it to. A nicer pedal would have a better switch that is easier to time correctly.

Let me tell ya ... this topic, with you explaining it, could be a little series. And I think it could be a loss-leader for selling your courses. This is another great video. Why? ... well it's exactly the tip you offer in the video ... timing. You speak clearly and at a very nice pace ... it's enjoyable to watch, the performance, separately from what you're saying. And that means people will be motivated to watch again. Teaching is giving ... and when people get a gift they do indeed perceive the packaging as part of the gift - the "priming" for what's inside. So even someone with average content can be interesting. Fortunately you're both. (My only minor complaint is that of many YT videos... the 'value' words. You're tip is excellent ... but is it 'revolutionary'? How about pro-level?

This is yet a other pedal that's built right into a Harmonizer. Samplers do this, and they're MIDI actuated (so use your own footswitch). In the studio, you use these constantly. They snapshot all of your ideas. The starts and stops are shown in seconds. You see 6.96 seconds of material. But the start time is usually 200ms off, so you trim the start. That typically does it. If you're off time, you'll get 400 or more to trim. You scrub the dial until you hear audio and back off 50ms. This doesn't hold up to the metronome. So you use tap tempo on your drums software and come up with 77bpm (approx). To zero this in, use the math. Move time slider to 9th measure (1 full measure) and view time. 6.76 seconds. Go to the sampler and size it to 6.76 by adding your trim value (200ms) and set the stop time to 6.96. That is how you sync your samples. Then you re record the clip after refinements, or keep it as it. Most of my uploads contain a snapshot. It all happens so fast, the concept of setting up channel records (arming channels) and timing from the click, the most intuitive way to snapshot ideas is with the magic sample record button. MIDI users will have loads of triggers at their feet. Record/Stop/Play, I have started routing my 2nd sampler. The drawback to Eventide there is no layering. Unless you bounce between two samplers. 76second limit, as well. No signal degradation. Volume controllable via assigned rocker pedals. MIDI is where its at, and you can go the expert route and have perfect ins and outs, or you can just get an Eventide.

The Cadillac Boss 300 has a built-in metronome with a light and it also helps you end your loop by automatically stopping at the end of a bar. You tap to stop your loop in the middle of a bar, and it stops recording the loop at the end of the bar. It also automatically starts and stops your 4 individual loops at the start and end of bars, so mixing loops is effortless. But yeah, I learned real quick that starting your loop with timing is the key and takes practice. The SDRUM pedal is also lots of fun, and again start and stop timing is everything.

New subscriber am I, Aloha! Excellent video on this topic; I saw a lady performing w/a pair of Electro-Harmonix loopers, very nice units, w/ you NAME the instrument! 2 things I noticed; 1) Get a mixer & PAN SHIT OUT. Everything right down a mono Middle is near cacophony. 2) If your looper uses memory cards, BUY THEM, as many as possible. That was soon obvious as the very talented lady’s rig started freezing for why she realized not. Neither did her BF/MNGR.

This cat has an amazing clean tone. He's got those strat humbucker pickups in a single coil profile, and it just sounds awesome. It does not sound like a strat so much, but that is why it sounds so good. I bet he can split those coils and get a super stratty sound. I like this guy's rig. I never could figure out those Wilkerson bridges though. They sucked for me. I had to pull out the whole mechanism and put in 5 springs like normal.

They have changed owners and are restarting the production. If you can get one, get one. They are amazing loopers. It'll eat the RC300 alive. The ability to save loops is kinda pointless IMO. If you need a triggered sound, get a pad and sample that.

Here's the secret in short form. Play in time and hit it on time. Everything musical can be divided into mathematical sections. If you can't do it, practice to a metronome and learn to keep in time. I see people who just can't do a solid loop and it's like WHYYY
