I am disappointed with this conversation. I interpret it as almost a list of credentials and why we're the certified gatekeepers of MGS and why everyone else isn't. Perhaps I am misunderstanding and their is a miscommunication with how I am hearing it. "I don't know how people are this mad." says Nitroid, most of the podcast is an angry conversation about being mad at people for being misunderstood about the Master Collection. This is why you're wrong and we're right. That's not a good notion to have a conversation even if it's true.

Hey Ragucci, thanks for the feedback. The reason why we say that they’re wrong is because most of the online conversations regarding concerns over the Master Collection’s performance are either factually incorrect or ignorant of the more technical aspects of these games and the platforms they’ve been released on. To be fair, many of these aren’t immediately obvious and do require a lot of experience and familiarity with the games. I’d encourage you to give the episode another listen, as we discussed several specific examples. Thanks again!

@Ragucci25 11 ай бұрын
@@TUSNitroid Sure! I do understand why they're wrong and that they are wrong, I am not debating that. I don't enjoy the way the conversation is being had on a negative foundation about people being negative and in turn you're all being negative. I feel the conversation should be more positive in future casts in relation to the Master Collection(s). I am just looking forward to playing most of the series for the first time. For new fans of the game and listeners to the podcast, maybe the conversation just isn't the best first impression of this podcast as a whole and the series. I know the MGS community can be negative on Twitter and in certain spaces, something I have come to learn as I entered it around MGS V. If anything; take away that I am interested in hearing positive banter about MGS and everything around it, not the negative especially as it enters the conversation for a new generation of gamers.

I still think you're going too easy on Konami personally, but eh. The problem is that it probably would have been a better choice for them to emulate the PS2 versions from a performance perspective since apparently reverse engineering the source code would have cost too much as far as the bean counters at Konami were concerned or they would have done that instead. So right out of the gate, it's at best a "middle of the road" effort.
@LogosSteve
@LogosSteve 11 ай бұрын
You should just be honest about it. Konami didn't think it was worth spending the money on these ports to avoid this criticism by reverse engineering the source code. There are a lot of companies that did put up the money for this for their remasters.

55:46 You earlier gave a counterpoint to 4K+ support by saying that the developers would need to fix a bunch of visual effect logic in order to have it display correctly at those higher resolutions. Doesn't the existence of the original MGS2 port largely disprove that too? In regards to MGS2 anyway, obviously we have no native MGS3 PC port to make a comparison with. The PC port of Substance + V's Fix supports an internal resolution of up to 8K and, aside from some kinda low res 2D UI elements, suffers no notable visual effect problems as a result of rendering at that resolution. At least none that aren't already present in the 2011 HD Collection. I'm not convinced that the same can't be done with MGS3 either. I think the chances of us seeing a mod on PC at some point that enables higher resolution support of the Master Collection, for both MGS2 and 3, is plausible. But I'll admit that's baseless. Time will tell I suppose.

I’m still gonna pre-order this collection on the same month it comes out no matter what, even if it’s back lash is going on, at the end of the day I’m an MGS fan for life and from what I’m seeing it looks like a great collection, can’t wait to see what Volume 2 got 💯🐍📦.

I'm more excited to see what Volume 2 has tbh. I had an expectation before but with the NES games tossed into Volume 1 I'm hoping for Ghost Babel or the Acid games. Maybe Snatcher, since the MkII is in MGS4?

I've only listened to about ten mins. Seems like they are happy to have the games re-released and don't mind it's not up to modern specs. Which it easily could be, YES we know the ps2 version of MGS3 wasn't a 60 fps experience like mgs2... but guess what? It is if i emulate and take advantage of the power of my CPU to run it at 4k 60fps. I'm saying this because i had my hope high for a great port i don't think we are getting that. These games imo deserve better it's bare minimum from Konami.

Great podcast, some criticism, I feel like a lot of you are quite dismissive of the vast majority of online complaints. Just because Konami said it’s a port of a port doesn’t mean it’s acceptable that it’s running much poorer than it could on all platforms. I also don’t think a master book makes up for the lack of performance by any stretch. It’s a cool collection and I’m buying but they should do better and the people have spoken!

I'm getting the Metal Gear Switch version regardless/I have already pre-ordered a physical version. I still think that games that look like the Metal Gear Solid games/ ESPECIALLY 1, 2 and 3/games this old, should be able to run on modern hardware, INCLUDING Switch at 1280x720p 60 locked hand held and 1920x1080p 60 locked docked; ALSO IF the original code has issues/bugs/optimization issues, that NEEDS to be handled/ if Konami needs to do some consulting with developers like Dotemu, Tantatus, Saber Interactive, Panic Button; And even Grove Street, at this point, they have started to get some good experience, with porting games to Switch/I think they learned a lot from their initial GTA Trilogy failure on Switch, they fixed it, in the end and went on to do more things, but I think they learned A LOT from their GTA port to Switch, reaching out to these experienced/good developers, wouldnt be a bad idea.

MGS3 on Switch running at 30 fps kinda make sense considering the console version of MGS 3 HD could drop on a busy scene (like the Chyornyj Prud Lake area especially when raining for example), and with how the original HD collection 60 fps coded, when the frame rate drops it's not just dropping frames but making the game run on slow-mo which is far more annoying than the usual frame drops. I'm pretty sure Switch could run it at 60 fps but probably drop to like 50-40 frames in most area, and the slow-mo frame drops makes the game more annoying to play which is why they locked it at 30. And for MGS 1 Psycho Mantis memory card read I think they could make it so the game reads recent or upcoming releases like both Castlevania Collection or Advance Collection (or the remastered version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the PS4) and The upcoming Suikoden Collection (which I know it's not released yet but I'm pretty sure the dev already have a fixed save file data path info). Hell, they could make psycho mantis "you like Konami games" by putting Silent Hill 2 remake, Bomberman, or TMNT Collection. I know they missing some other games like Azure Dreams and a bunch of JP-exclusive games but at least some of them are preserved. Or they tuck in options in the collection main menu (where you choose which MGS1 game you want to play), by putting a list of what games you want Psycho Mantis to read with an on/off option so the scene is still preserved albeit in a different way (you know putting that option is kinda like MGS 3 "I like [insert Metal Gear game here" option).

I'll be picking it up but not out of the gate. I do want to play the NES titles and VR Missions. Plus the scripts and documentation might be a good read. In an ideal world, I would've thrown money at Digital Eclipse to do it all but they have their hands full with the Gold Master Series.

In mgs speed is tied to fps. And everything in mgs is done at 60fps all animations and such its all timed to 60. Once you go passed that things break. This happened in MGO2 aswell where playing at 120 you shoot so fast that bullets dont register and things like that. And its why its capped at 60 aswell. People expecting all these changes shouldve waited for delta.

Well, i didn't except them to remaster the already-remastered mgs2 and mgs3 but what really annoying me in that they left mgs1 untouched they never bothered to sharpen the graphics, they could have, if they really want to keep the game as it was originally played, added CRT Effects Dont leave the graphics pixelated and ugly like this

This was an awesome episode. It ended on TCM/Hallmark movie vibe. The dedication to detail is remarkable. You guys mesh well in picturing the fine distinctions and gameplay scenarios. All the while, inquiring into mod projects that would be a skilled gamers thrill. Also, the vibe is one that can conjure animated caricaturing of your appearances. It makes for a lighter tone to approach sometimes heavily intricate material. Which Nitroid, boy he brings argument structures I ain’t even ever heard before! Steelman arguments? They’re pretty cool, I’m going to start using those! 😂. Apache speed-runs his point across like he does MGS3 with the optimal mix of PS3 controls with the updated graphics on PC! 🔥🐉🔥! I’m excited for that! I’m gonna put on some Devilman UK grime and chill watching the stream. Its nice to hear from Daze_Ahead, really bringing in critical big picture ways of looking at things. An air of inspiration. And Fingers, I could only imagine, like a mad scientist on the beats, always working in the background. 🧑‍🍳. Anyway, great episode. ✌️.

I just impressed it runs on switch especially knowing that the switch has an underclocked tegra x1,I played the Nvidia Shield TV version which had the fully clocked tegra x1 and it ran like ass alot of input lag and frame drops. Don't care what anyone says a stable 30 with a controller is much better than the possibility of 60fps with random slowdown and input lag

@@Just_normal_youtube_channel damn thanks for the heads up ❤️ ngl steam deck isn't too great either first I installed it with windows 11 (before the fix for steam os came out) and was getting pretty bad slowdown in mgs2 during the Olga fight and in the holds. I've just installed the fix and it works but has broken fmvs (like the main theme opening before the start screen) still have to go back to the holds and Olga fight to see how's the slowdown Ok got back there the fps is rock solid on steam os with the fix even in the hold and knocking the Marines like dominos the frame rate and speed was rock solid 60

I also think Konami should optimize these games for the PS5 and PC/ Metal Gear Volume 1 should run at 3840x2160p at, at least 60FPS, on PS5 and PC; I agree optimization is key to doing these ports right and handling bugs as well. I'm not saying the games should change story wise/all they need to do is remove/fix bugs, clean the games visuals up, fix the frame rates/optimize the games and the new versions/Metal Gear Solid Volume 1,will be perfect. I honestly don't know what the best decision/decisions are to make, when it comes to the boss fight, where the boss is trying to get you to unplug your controller, hopefully they make the right one though. I have a Switch, a PS5 and a PC desktop and laptop, both have 4090s i9s and 128GBs of RAM, the community DEFINITELY has high expectations for games like Metal Gear, these games DESERVE THE BEST.

Good podcast! Another thing to consider with the recent Switch 2 leaks is the Collection could see a 60fps update when the next system drops. I’m double dipping, getting it on Switch and Steam. Switch for a physical copy (yeah I know the whole game isn’t on the card. Don’t care), Steam for the performance and mods.

I think there are a few reasons its important that it comes to Switch, one, because its an amazing game, two its an old, easy to run game, thats perfect for Switch/it can also be played portably, also yes, I have it on the Vita, but the Vita is much weaker than the Switch and the Vitas screen is much smaller than the Switches screen, and the Playstation TV, defeats the purpose of a portable handheld; Metal Gear Volume 1, are perfect games for the Switch/ a portable experience/yes the Switch also has; These games/ I have all of these games on Switch: The Borderlands collection The BioShock collection Whitcher 3 Sniper Elite 4 Red Faction Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 The Doom Collection Skyrim Resident evil 0,1,4,5 and 6 Mortal Kombat 11 The Outer Worlds The Dark Siders Collection; Genesis, 1,2 and 3 Dark Souls Dragon Dogma Kingdoms Of Amalur Re-Reckoning immortals Fenyx Rising Subnautica Below Zero Fire Emblem Warriors Zelda Breath of the wild Crysis collection The Assassin's Creed Collection/ Assassins creed 2 Assassins Creed Brotherhood Assassins Creed Revelations Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered Assassins Creed Liberation Remastered Black Flag Rogue Luigis Mansion 3 Dying Light World War Z Zombie Army 4 Zombie Army Dead War The Sniper Elite Series as well, I think IF you could only get one Sniper Elite game, I would get 4,because at that point all of the mechanics/gameplay has been fine tuned/it has brought out all of the mechanics/features and so on, at that point. Dragon Ball Xenoverse Metro 2033 The Saints Row collection: The third, IV and all DLC. The Need For Speed hot pursuit remastered Fast RMX Lego City undercover Lego DC Super Villains Lego Marvel 1 Lego Marvel 2 Vampyr Monster Hunter collection God Eater 3 Ninja Gaiden Collection Destroy All Humans Ghost Busters Man Eater The Diablo Eternal Collection Hades Dead Cells Hotline Miami 1+2 Enter The Gungeon BloodStain Ritual Of The Night Remothered Collection OddWorld Collection Rayman Legends Shantae Half Genie Hero Steamworld Dig 1+2 CaveBlazzers Blasphemous Minecraft Hollow Knight Shovel Knight Treasure Trove Celeste Blue Fire Persistence One Piece: Pirate Warriors Collection Astral Chains Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana Sword Art Online Digimon Cyber sleuth Complete edition Everspace Stellar Edition Green Hell American Fugitive GTA Trilogy Star Wars The Force Unleashed Lego Starwars Two Point Campus Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cowabunga edition Shredder's revenge NieR:Automata Ark Survival Evolved No Man's Sky Alan Wake Duke Nukem 3D Quake 1 and 2 Lara Croft/Tomb Raider Collection DCUO and Warframe. And Im also getting Batman,Red Dead, and what were talking about here, Metal Gear Solid/I'm HIGHLY INVESTED IN THE SWITCH,for portability, the Steam Deck is a 540p max settings 60FPS and above device, it also doesn't have dynamic resolution, based on frame rate, like the Switch has, which helps it seem to perform better than the Steam Deck, because the Switch isn't stuck at one resolution, like the Steam Deck is, and the Switch also has games that are specifically optimized for the Switch and also FSR/DLSS are tools that CAN help the Switch get even better frame rates/performance, yes FSR/DLSS are available on PC TOO, but the Switch just has A LOT more help and the Switch came out like 6 years ago, the Steam Deck has no excuse to be this underpowered; 1920x1080p 60FPS, in ALL games, should be the standard, for ANY handheld that releases now days; The AYONEO is worth it/its a 1280x720p/1920x1080p 60FPS and above, max settings device, depending on the game, even with games like GTA V, but I'm trying to ride the console wave, just a little longer, because I like collecting physical games, but most likely my next hand held wont be a Switch 2, unless it has a 1920x1080p display and it can run all games at 1080p 60FPS and above and it also needs to be backwards compatible/Switch 1 games NEED to be able to go inside Switch 2 consoles and work,but most likely, my new handheld will probably be an AYONEO Pro of some sort.

Okay, so Konami are giving me good reason to just emulate it at my target performance lol. Also can't believe this dude is talking shit about the PS2 version of MGS3. I know it depends on what you appreciate more, performance or content + graphical integrity. We won't ever get Subsistence as it was on the PS2 with better performance, because the ports going forward have all removed bonus content, are fucked up buggy, and missing graphical effects. Let alone a "perfect version" that has neither flaws. And Master Collection cannot be that. Emulator gang stay winning
