It's almost as canon as canon gets. It appears that Kojima can be a bit of a headcase, and maybe rightfully so considering the MGS series is his baby, but this game did right by the standards of MGS games. It's as if he wants to embrace it, but doesn't because he wasn't directing it. PW and PO are probably the 2 biggest underrated games in the series. I just finished PW and I'd say it's my 2nd most favorite in the series. I haven't played PO yet but have seen all the cut scenes online...it's a great story and it's undeniable how many links to other games are in it.

Fukushima actually was a big role in the original trilogy. He left after MGS3 which is why the writing in 4 and V wasn't as tight and strong.

I don’t mean to sound like I dislike the game. Outside of the controls/gameplay, I love it. I think it deserves a full remake with an expanded story that accounts for the lore introduced in 4, PW and V. I’d love a remake to have an epilogue chapter showing the creation of FOXHOUND, Les Enfants Terribles, and Big Boss meeting Kaz and founding MSF.

I don't think it needs to account for those games since they are chronologically after PO. On the other hand, I'd like PW to have a few more ties to PO. But those ideas sound pretty cool. Especially the kaz one and Les Enfants Terribles. Imagine if we had a gameplay segment of Big Boss escaping the patriots like how Captain America escaped Shield in the winter soldier.

That was true... When it came about the NES one. After that Kojima himself was actively encouraging their team to make Metal Gear games without him as the head of the project.

Portable Ops was actually the first online game I ever played once I figured out how to connect to random neighbors wifi. I would stand outside for hours on the sidewalk next to my apartment complex looking for somewhat capable wifi because there was none inside my own complex.

PO and PW should have been developed on ps3 and xbox Imagine playing a console version of PO in 2006. Could have been on par with Splinter Cell Chaos theory and Hitman Blood Money if it wasn't restricted by the psp. Same goes for PW. We had to wait 4 years between then MGS4, then another 6 years for GZ. And for an xbox player it was a 10 year wait between the 2 console MGS games.

My opinion: great story, ok gameplay, terrible controls. This game and Peace Walker should’ve used a fixed camera system (you know, like how almost the ENTIRE saga was up to that point other than MGS4 and the subsistence version of MGS3.) That way, the face buttons can be used for the traditional commands (crouch/prone, aiming/firing, CQC, etc,) and the D-Pad could be your inventory (and in the case of Portable Ops, more than just 4 options,) kinda a predecessor to how it works in MGSV.

The only, and I mean only, Metal Gear game that doesn't move the series forward from a gameplay standpoint and instead goes backwards making it way less playable than its predecessor. The story is a cool fan fiction, but still a fan fiction, because Metal Gear is so bound to his author you can't pretend anyone can just go and write a story. It doesn't have an underlying theme like all the Kojima games, it's just meaningless. It's just not that good of a game and people been praising it so they can tell themselves Metal Gear can go on without Kojima but it can't and that's just it. "Konami's masterpiece" yeah c'mon now

"the only metal gear game that doesn't move the series forward" what are you talking about? it moves the series on greatly than a lot of other titles, that's for sure, i dont need to give them examples you should know been a "metal gear fan" and you're wrong "bound to its author" 😂 its a video game not a book, several people worked on metal gear series not just koijma, its a joint effort, kojimas even stated in a interview he doesn't consider po a bad game from spin-off standpoint, unlike some game he whole heartedly thinks are trash like "snakes revenge" its well known fact kojima has had his younger teams work on projects in the mgs series he was becoming disinterested in, and wanted to "move on" kojima even acted as a producer in "po" there just facts whenever you tell your self its not a "kojima game" all day long, hes even mentioned in his core games pw, mgs4, need i go on? yes he created these brilliant games, wrote a masterpiece, that just stating the obvious... but it thanks to konami he had the funding and platform to do it! and its not passion its business as well, whenever you choose to deny it all you want along with other po haters, kojima has confirmed it in "his" titles he's even retconned in mgs v for po, even when the proofs right there you will never see it, and you will be the last person i discuss this with because I'm bored of telling people it, with or without Kojima and konami mgs will live on regardless! it called legacy, not a fan boy crying kojima isn't making mgs game no more, he was done since mgs2
