In this week's Gear or Gadget, we are bringing our experiences with different products to the table to do a hybrid style product review. We are calling this segment "Gear or Gadget." Today, we have a repeat guest, Tony Sangialosi of ‪@DrawnArchery‬ .
We will be determining whether we think this piece of hunting equipment is gear, and we would buy it again or is it a gadget and money can be better spent somewhere else.
There are a couple of ground rules:
#1 We are not here to brand bash anyone. We are simply here to give honest reviews on products we have used.
#2 NO USEAGE OF THE TERM "GAME CHANGER". The game has not changed, and will not change from a single product.
In this episode, Tony talks about the importance of getting custom made strings on a bow and having a name and a face to call instead of a 1-800 number if something goes wrong. Lucas talks about a cheap terrible sounding grunt tube and why it is so important to have a good sounding grunt tube. Cameron talks about an easily collapsible but sturdy tripod for glassing on western hunts.

What amazes me is changing the “factory” string for a custom bow string made by the same string manufacturer.

40 years of bow hunting never once needed a new string and I shoot a lot. Just change your knock! As for peep twist it’s probably string count on each side of the peep. This is right up there with camo boot soles.

The zebra strings on my mathew's traverse were totally trashed @500shots. While the winners choice on my elite omnia are at 4000 shots and the strings still look new. Guess it depends on what your bow manufacturer uses. If for some reason I buy another mathew's(very doubtful at this point) I would replace the strings before I even setup the bow because zebra strings aren't worth my time. My average this summer has been right around 200 shots per week using a clicker counter.

Definitely gonna look cooler 😎

My factory Bowtech Revolt X strings were shot out in under six months. People that shoot a lot year round will definitely see the benefits of a GOOD custom string. Best use for factory strings is the whole backup string situation like talked about in the video.

As far as getting a whole new string because your nocks don't fit is a bit over the top, you could just remove the serving that doesn't fit and fit the serving you need.

The string is one of the most vital pieces to a compound bow that's where a lot of people fail to realize that is one of the biggest parts to that boat besides the limbs the axles and the cam string is the next very important thing and if it's not built at a high quality fiber and stretched at a good rate serving tension just right it's not going to hold its tune ever you're going to have stretch all the time it's just going to lead into one thing over another and you dang sure ain't going to have the right knock fit

@HuntsT
@HuntsT Жыл бұрын
Most likely not. Might be a loose component. Bang on the side of the bow with your palm and see if vibration causes it. If it's definitely the string, then your string stop may not be set correctly.

@@craigholland2274 well I had a mathews z7 for 5 years and never had to change the strings, then i switched bows to hoyt because I didn't like the mathews no cam bow. Had to change the hoyt strings in the 2nd year. Had it for 2 more years after and the strings went bad again so I got rid of it and upgraded to the mathews vxr when that came out 3 years ago and the string still looks great and no twist in the peep. So I beg to differ on that one.

Finding bow service is the problem with Prime. Replacing 7 string parts on a bow & a dealer to do it is tough. I have a Prime that had replacement last year. The 2nd Prime I decided to save my time & well as the dealer. I sent him pics of the tag on my bow of the string sizes I need. I asked him to order & then when they came in I would come over @ his convenience & have them swapped out. No contact after that day in a month. So now I have a bow that I took the d-loop off waiting. I took measurements of everything on the string. My newest Prime is due next year for replacement in April. That might not ever happen if my backup bow is still in limbo. Bow dealer had to get a full-time job & run a shop part-time on his property. He had to giveup his lease in April of 2021. I was his last customer there @ his lease. Why, cuz it took Prime 9 weeks like it took on mine to get a new bow shipped to his shop. I've watched videos of replacement strings on Prime bows & they aren't as good as the factory strings fit. However being a Prime bow owner is like owning an other bow since new strings sent to the customer would void the warranty & obviously I'm the only person involved in this situation that has a bow or 2 @ 100% 😉.
