I bang on about the 30% Seaweed I buy from Green Care, so in this video I share some information on when and why seaweed is used on lawns, and some information on some of the seaweed products on the market, their costs and some of their contents that are advertised with the product.

I use a seaweed powder and a humic powder. Storage is easy. A tablespoon of each makes a mixture that I can apply with a Scotts garden sprayer. A few weeks back, I wasn't getting the green lawn that I normally do after an application of Scotts Green Max which usually takes a few days. I applied the humic/seaweed and the lawn took off like a rocket. Greened up right away and grew even faster. Right now I am mowing every two days. I think I'm going to try growth regulator to slow the grass down.

Scott's Green Max is a US product? If so, thanks for watching across the pond. I've looked for Humic acid in the UK but it can be more expensive than what I think the US buys it for. I will be looking at adding another product which should improve the roots of the plants and allow for more nutrient retention and better plants overall, but it's monsooning here in the UK and can't get near the lawn!!!

@@TheReelMowingMowingClub I live in Canada, but Scott’s Green Max should be available the USA, not that that would help you necessarily . The most important thing about green max is the iron that makes the lawn green. I use it as a visual indicator or when to fertilize next or whether or not the grass is uptaking the nutrients. I got my Humic and Seaweed powder from Amazon. I guess if you added iron prills to any fertilized lawn, you would get an idea of the uptake. I fertilized all winter this year., when there was no snow and it had been at least three weeks since I had put down Green Max the last time. While the grass didn’t grow, it definitely turned darker green so long as the temps were high enough that everything wasn’t frozen. Proof the lawn still isn’t completely dormant during cold months. In the spring, the lawn took off like a rocket, growing.

Yup. I use iron sulphate powder and mix with water and add to sprayer to aid green up. I also use feeds that have calcium and magnesium sulphate in it which helps with the green up. We dont have as cold a winter as you, so I was able to cut mine at least once a month over the winter months

A company in Canada produces the dry soluble seaweed concentrate. Acadian Seaplants makes it for formulators because the extract probably cost much less than the bottle and the label. If a few of you go together you could order the 40 pound box and be set for life. I bottled a large amount, putting the dry powder into glass canning jars, wiping the top, putting a couple oxygen absorber packet then screwing on a new lid, good for years that way.

Christ that is thick, like treacle. I use the westland organic liquid seaweed, but not much thicker than water. Looks like we are getting another cold spell near freezing again end of next week, so still a good few weeks away before we can start putting any seed down. Probably going to be looking more near the end of March🤦was hoping to do a mow soon, but been far too wet, and again they have given rain for the next two weeks at least. We are all chomping at the bit to get out and started again on our lawns.

Yeah it's good stuff I think. Only way to do a full test will be to send samples away for testing and biostructre analysis, and I'm not doing that!!! Also can look to put on sample plots of turf on and do comparisons. Hopefully you can get a cut soon! My guy @gardening on a low budget got his first cut in this weekend in Scotland. But these season will be here before you know it

@@TheReelMowingMowingClub yeah that is the only cheap way really, side by side comparisons so both get the same amount of light, water, temperature etc, and then compare. I think all us lawn fanatics watch all the same lawn channels, I remember the lawn care guy doing a comparison of loads of different grass seeds he grew in trays, which was great to see. Will check out the first mow from gardening on a low budget now, I am subbed to his channel also. I managed to get my first mow this year a few weeks ago, but it has shot up lately with the mild weather, so really needs another a.s.a.p.

Great list of seaweeds mate 👍 One from the Green Care looks boss but think its more expensive as well. I have Envii's seafeed with added iron and been happy with it. I just ordered some from Multi-mite which is 100% concentrate and is well priced as well. What impressed me the most is it has some nitrogen, potassium, phosphate and magnesium. Last Monday I had added some granular fertilizer from Green Care and wow the difference it made in few days is unreal. Looking forward using new seaweed as well. Your lawn looks superb for this time mate.
@TheReelMowingMowingClub

Cheers Mushy. Yeah the seaweed seems to be an expensive outlay but it works out cheap over the coverage offered at under 1p / m2, where as the GardenLawncare Guy stuff is 4p and DHLE is 11p /m2. Granted they may have different bits in it but I look to add to the seaweed with separate iron, calcium and magnesium minerals through fert. What fert did you buy from them? ICL or Angus? I had great results with Angus last year but may continue with ICL this year as its helped through the winter I think
@mushy_GLX

@@TheReelMowingMowingClub I have Angus mate, 10.4.4 plus it has added magnesium, iron, seaweed and calcium. All the goodness in it. I will be adding ICL's Autumn fert this year. At the moment for the winter I have been using molasses, iron and seaweed, but with added granular should only make it better. When my seaweed arrives I will let you know how it compares to yours mate in terms of liquid thickness. Not sure about application rate yet and cost per sqm. You cannot beat 1p per sqm tho. How often do you apply seaweed? I do mine every 2 weeks from Spring till October and then once every 4 weeks after. Seems to last that long, as if I delay application I can see on my lawn it needs some more :)

@TheReelMowingMowingClub 2 ай бұрын
Hi Jeanie Yes you can. I use a watering can to put seaweed onto the plants and flowers, not just the lawn. You can't over apply it like you can with a fertiliser, which can cause burning. This doesn't happen with seaweed. What seaweed are you looking to use?

I like the glug glug of the Green Care seaweed but for the time being I've a stock of the Doff seaweed to get through - I don't measure it out just pour into my sprayer - I might use a third of a bottle for my 80M2 front lawn. I've no idea as to whether I'm under 'feeding' the lawn or over feeding but I know it's doing some good because of the colour. A question for you re seaweed and iron; what's your views on using lawn sand as a product to tackle moss?
@TheReelMowingMowingClub
@TheReelMowingMowingClub 6 ай бұрын
I always use half a bottle of maybe a full bottle of doff when applying it on my lawn, due o the fact its so cheap. I have read you cant 'overfeed' on the seaweed with it being organic, however there is always a risk. Never used lawn sand so cant comment, however a good spray of iron sulphate has always blackened it for me.

after you spray seaweed, do you need/want it to be watered/raind in or does it not matter?
@TheReelMowingMowingClub

I usually leave it for a few hours so that the leaf can absorb as much as possible then I would look to water it in. Fortunately as of late we have had so much rain it will have watered in that way. I try to do applications around the weather if I can so the rain washes it in
