Overall soil ploughing has been found to have more negative effects than benefits.
Most farmers use disc plough to break the soil (aerate) and get rid of weeds. However, this practice has been found to be responsible of the following negative outcomes;
Overall Disc ploughing of land leads to;
1. Loss of soil moisture,
2. Loss soil carbon (GHG emission)
3. Soil erosion aggravated
4. Formation of hardpan
5. Poor yields
6. Lots of fuel consumed
Minimum tillage (Ripping);
1. Keeps moisture in the soil
2. Reduces soil carbon escape to atmosphere
3. Maintains soil structure
4. Breaks hardpan hence easy Root & Water penetration
5. Increases crop resilience to weather changes
6. Increases yield
7. Saves fuel (Less emission)
8. Climate-smart
