While I agree with many of the points made in this video and recognize them as valid, I feel as though the actual purpose of the Osmo has been overlooked. It was never intended to be a Vlogging camera or a camera that would film stationary from a tripod. It is a camera on a gimbal. It is intended for smooth crisp footage, and that is what it delivers.

That doesn't excuse the technical bugs and design problems (the audio sync problem is an expensive nightmare for editing.) . While I found DJI support to be good (and they're buried with Mavic popularity) it should be a fixed firmware issue.

All gimbals will have motor noise. Gimbals are NOT designed for vlogging. That's a stupid review. Might as well complain (1) how you can't do 4K video with the Osmo on your iPhone 5 or (2) how the Osmo broke when used underwater or (3) how when you throw it in the air, it won't fly like a drone. They are all stupid, irrelevant points.

It's an action cam, not a blogging one. I just recorded a music live concert with an osmo, a gopro and a DSLR, edited with multicam and sound was perfectly syncronized. Ofcourse I used good external mics for the three cameras.
@SteRumbelow8 жыл бұрын
+Santiago Velasco That sounds awesome, Santiago. I agree it is more of an action camera than anything else but that doesn't mean most of the problems I spoke about aren't applicable to it. Lots of people still want the audio for action and have experienced the same issues. Obviously it is best to use an external recorder but you shouldn't HAVE to.

THE Osmo was not designed for Vloggers. Period. It's an extra tool for filmmaking, not for narcissistic vlogging.
@adamhollins98008 жыл бұрын
Carive Productions if you can't use the audio then it's harder worth even adding extras unless you get a completely separate audio recorder and try and blend it later.
@CariveProductions8 жыл бұрын
Adam Hollins The Osmo was intended to be a Broll camera, specially the X3 version. The only audio you really need has to be good enough to sync, (if you really need the audio). If you are Vlogging, try a lav mic. Rode makes a $70 one that can work for that, just plug it into the Osmo or your phone.
@luttekikker8 жыл бұрын
But plugging a microphone in the Osmo is what he did right? And that caused still sound that was out of sync with the video itself. For that amount of money you pay for DJI products you can expect some customer service imo. I own a DJI Ronin Cinema stabilizer and boy oh boy...if you have a problem with equipment it's really hard to get some help (especially if your equipment is bought used or in a shop that is out of business or something). Read articles on google or something about DJI customer service....the problems are world wide known.

Ouchy, perhaps you didn't see the advertising for it... it certainly was made to look like it could be used for vlogging. Of course the Osmo+ only has a minimum focus of 50cm so that is likely a better one for vloggers.

Hmm it's their reputation for bad customer service that prevents me from buying any DJI product, even if the product might be great. You just can not afford to be left without support, and service should come as standard and does with the best companies. They must miss out on so many customers like me, while their competitors get my business. I have also been advised that DJI's quality control is inconsistent so bad units do get sent out, and when they do DJI will either not fix the issue or will take ages to rectify the issue.

+al35mm Exactly! Buying through a reputable retailer is the only sensible option.

+al35mm That's very true indeed. It's a real shame, because with products like the Mavic Pro, it is blatantly obvious they are a step ahead of the game in that category.
@al35mm8 жыл бұрын
Maybe, but the Mavic has been rushed into production too early in response to Gopro's Karma and the promised shipping date has been delayed for a month. It is likely that there will be many teething problems with the first production runs, and those customers who have pre-purchased, will likely face many issues and get little help from DJI support!
@SteRumbelow8 жыл бұрын
+al35mm Yeah you are probably right. Whether it was rushed or not, they will have been working on it for a long time so as long as you're not buying straight away, it'll probably be ok. Be interesting to see how it all pans out.

I don't disagree with any single point you made in this review. In fact, I fully agree, that as a tool for vlogging the OSMO isn't ideal. However, I'm not sure it is fair to review the OSMO as just a camera- It is a camera/gimbal system, and I think it might be more appropriate to compare with other gimbal systems. It seems to me that the target market for this camera would be people who are looking at gimbal stabilization anyway. No gimbal stabilized system right now is truly run and gun. Even high end professional systems, you need to mount the camera and get things calibrated before you can start shooting with it. So, when considering the OSMO as a gimbal stabilized system, I don't think it is fair to complain about the start-up/configuration time before you can start shooting when it beats nearly every other gimbal system out there in that regard. The same goes for audio. Even with high end professional systems, audio is going to be an issue. This is because you can't cable into the camera, as the cable weight and drag will throw off your balance. If you use a camera's internal mic, you are still going to end up with motor noise from whatever gimbal you are using. When shooting at the professional level, this is dealt with by shooting dual system- recording audio separately and syncing in post. Finally, a gimbal stabilized camera isn't going to be the right tool for every kind of video. Just like a hammer isn't going to be the right tool if you need to fix your car (at least hopefully not) the OSMO, or any other gimbal stabilized system, isn't always going to be right for every situation either. It is a bit like giving a hammer a bad review because it doesn't work well as a screw driver- They are different tools for different jobs.
@SteRumbelow8 жыл бұрын
+Adam Grunseth Hey Adam. Thanks for the detailed view. Really appreciate it, and I agree. The OSMO definitely isn't the tool for every job. The problem is, that is how it is marketed. And when you watch shiny product videos where they wrongly suggest it's great for Vlogging in 'selfie mode', it doesn't take much to convince a consumer when combined with the cool-factor of it being a gimbal device! They market the OSMO as though it is great for every situation. It isn't. I feel it would have been better to remove the audio jack entirely and therefore cut out the huge problems it has with audio recording. And to focus on what it is good at - stable footage. Nobody can complain when it does one or two things very well; but most will complain when it does 50% of things badly. GoPro just released the Karma grip and stabiliser (sure you've seen it) and I think it more accurately depicts what the OSMO should've been marketed as. They tell you how you can take stable action footage, which it does. They don't even bother to let you plug in a mic, because it's worthless on such a device. As you say, you'd record audio externally. Once again it's a problem with over promising and under delivering, which is never a good route to go down. Do fewer things and do them well; don't do everything and do them badly. Thanks again, Ste.

Just to add my comment: I use and love my OSMO+ .The footage is tv quality and makes footage look fantastic. Yes, setup does take longer than getting a DSLR out of a case but you get far better footage and if you know you'll be filming - you are ready. On service, I had a problem with a DJI drone which was resolved (replaced) very quickly and have never had a bad experience with DJIs customer services - indeed have always found very helpful. I do accept that the OSMO's audio is very poor but rarely use it and if I do, I use an external mic which is fine. Battery life is c25mins but by 'putting to sleep' when not filming, means you do get the full 25mins. I also use a drone battery, attached to the extension arm with an adaptor kit, which gives over 2h use. For me, it's worth the money and the cons are massively outweighed by the pros.

@SteRumbelow8 жыл бұрын
+Rasa Nbg Obviously you didn't watch the video. The audio doesn't work with an external microphone. That is by far the biggest problem with the Osmo. There are inherent problems with it. Clicks, cracks and other noise. Then the audio drift which makes editing difficult and sometimes impossible. All of this was mentioned in the video. Can't really compare this to a GoPro, but I imagine if you put the new GoPro Karma up against it, it would fare better. The only good thing about the Osmo is the stabilisation from the gimbal. I also mentioned about using it without a phone. You can. Only, it's impossible to control it, adjust it and of course; to see what you're recording. Thanks for the comment!

After shooting with the (original) osmo for about 1 year we +1 the comments about it not being for Vloggers. It's just not designed for that. It's more a "B Roll" camera although we've exclusively shot experimental short films with it. The gimbal is absolutely amazing and worth the price of admission. You can run with no noticeable shaking or distortion. The footage it outputs is pretty darn spectacular. The controls via the phone interface are more than adequate for any film maker who knows what he/she is doing. Run & Gun without a phone is a no brainer so long as you can frame a shot with your lens FOV knowledge (experience necessary). BTW the low light capability is surprisingly nice. We shot a 2 min short in a bowling alley using only available light and it came out quite nice. As for the other points: 1) In a "pinch" it most certainly CAN be an "instant on" grab & go device. You do not need a phone to operate the camera. To change settings yes, but once they are as you like you can grab & go. We do it all the time and it works great. Just make sure your settings are correct. 2) Yes, you will occasionally lose WiFi for no explicable reason but it does not mean that recording stops. Just keep rolling and it most likely will reconnect. 3) Yes, the built in mic is (beyond) worthless. The accessory plug in mic they provide is OK but it's not production quality. It's fine for "everyday" use and syncing. Be warned that YOU WILL LOOSE THIS MIC so have at least two on hand. Best to use an external setup. 4) Accessories ARE way too costly. Lack of an integrated tripod mount is a real issue. It should be incorporated in the bottom via an included low profile mount. You can build most all of your own mounts if you have a little DIY experience but it may be more cost effective for certain ones. 5) Yes, customer service exudes arrogance under a thin veil of being "helpful". Don't bother trying to return anything past the "date" and if they happen to "upgrade" or offer a newer model as they just did, you won't get to exchange it or any type of credit which is not unprecedented but highly suspect . If you're into Vlogging the try the phone gimbal as mentioned. That should address any focus issues and suit your needs perfectly. Anybody else not Vlogging exclusively will benefit greatly for the rock steady crystal clear 4k footage. Nothing wrong with this review at all. Can't fault someone for their opinion. It's just a matter of this being the wrong tool for this specific application.

My experience has been very different from yours although I agree with everything you point out (except the audio lag issue - never seen that) Here's the thing: For less than a grand I've got the Osmo with all the required accessories (mic, led light, extension arm, tripod) and I can pick the rig up and put it down on a table within seconds. The only "real" problem I've had which has driven me up the wall is the wi-fi connection. Was at Birmingham NEC trying to shoot video with the Osmo and every single time the Osmo wi-fi would not show up until I walked a good 100 yards outside the building. Having to walk outside the building and then back in again every time I wanted to shoot something was madness - especially when the battery life is only about 20 minutes to start with and at the end of all the "walk in, walk out" activity it was considerably less. Nevertheless for other environments it's my ideal rig - so much more portable and usable than the Canon 5D Mark III rig I'd been using previously. I'd heard from many, many different sources that DJI customer support was truly terrible, so made sure I bought from a local retailer. Had sterling service from them (even got a second battery charger for free, on top of the Summer pricing offer) so overall I'm a happy purchaser.

Peugeot 308 vrs ford focus etc etc. I would like to do videos of walking under cars when they are having major mechanical work done, describing what is happening and the parts being replaced. I would also be doing videos with a camera on a tripod, me walking around the cars describing their good and bad points like huge boot, poor reversing visibility etc etc. As a third video I want to do a driving video with someone holding the camera whilst describing gearchange, driver convenience, power etc etc. At some point I will buy a drone to do overhead videos of driving the car and perhaps frying around the car whilst its going along. So, as you can see, I need something to do many jobs. The audio really worries me. Has anyone got any suggestions of what they would buy?
@SteRumbelow8 жыл бұрын
+TopNotchThetford Hi, and thanks for the comment. Aside from the final point, where you will have someone video while you're driving, I would say the OSMO isn't going to be great for those. Particularly if you're in a pit or if the car is on a ramp - the OSMO isn't good in anything but bright light conditions. You'll lose a significant amount of quality when it's darker. I'd suggest a decent point and shoot will do everything much more efficiently, require FAR fewer accessories, be easier to set up and so on. If you use the OSMO, you'll also be using your phone battery constantly because it's the viewfinder. I'm using a Canon G7X Mk.II and I couldn't recommend it enough.
@DylanM156 жыл бұрын
You don't need the phone to record. It's more for the screen and refinement. It's totally possible to grab and shoot without a phone though. Also the fact it's really not meant for vloggers but for actual videos with it's focus. Also it really doesn't take a ton of accessories. With maybe 3 accessories at most you're really set unless you're making the jump to the Zenmuse x5 cameras. I don't really know many people who actually leave a tripod clip on a camera either. It's a bit of an exaggeration both ways. For audio yeah it's an issue but it's really not difficult to use alternate audio. I've never had any camera that I've even slightly considered using the built in audio. As a whole the camera market really doesn't care a ton about audio. I almost always toss a shotgun mic on it connected to my phone through an sc4 from Rode or a recorder for audio.

Great advice, it's a good camera for capturing ultra smooth 4k footage, though.

Definitely. That's the one thing it does well.

This would be best suited for smooth steady cam footage with no dialogue recording, ex. Music videos or scenes that don't require any audio recording. You can take out all audio and put in your music etc. Still a good buy if it suits your needs.

You have to understand that the Osmo was designed for video mobility and not a quick reaction camera like an iPhone or a camcorder. I have an iPhone and the Sony FDR AX100 4K camcorder. When i used both for video mobility, they are not that smooth because of the bouncing effect that we create when we walk or even run. Since I purchased the Osmo, I went ahead and purchased the Z-Axis arm. The Osmo with the Z-Axis arm made the video mobility (running & walking) very smooth that I could never get with my iPhone or my Sony camcorder.
@SteRumbelow7 жыл бұрын
+beerborn That's obvious. Stability wasn't one of the problems I had with the OSMO. Many other things were.
@beerborn7 жыл бұрын
My issues with the Osmo is when adding the Z-Axis arm, it added more weight for me to carry around and you can't install a shoulder strap on the Osmo. It also hogs the battery life so I have to carry 3 spare batteries.

Love the rant, everything is true :). I gave up on the Osmo as a vlogging cam soon after I bought it. Had the weird support, the terrible audio (drift and clipped audio ruined several of my videos), also hate how slow it is to start up. I only still use it with the car mount to do driving shots, it does that rather good. And when I need audio, I record that with an external audio recorder (Zoom H6). Love the Osmo concept, but it's a pricy gadget rather than a real camera system... I'm especially happy I didn't buy the 'PRO' version for $3500 😂. But a little sad I didn't buy the cheaper Osmo Mobile stabiliser, since I'm shooting a lot of my vlog stuff on iPhone SE.

+Jack Jarome Oh wow. The representative I spoke to via email was equally rude. At the moment (around 7 weeks on), I still have the camera packed up on my landing. DJI never replied to my card company about the camera at all. Despite AmEx being an enormously powerful name. DJI did however respond about the microphone and enclose 'evidence' to say I wanted to return it because I 'didn't understand the charges'. In reality, they twisted my email, which questioned the handling and shipping fees they wanted to charge me to return - they finally agreed to take it if it was unopened!!. They were going to charge me over £80. Utterly ludicrous.

You should rename your video from, "Why You Should Avoid The DJI OSMO!" to, "Why You Should Avoid The DJI OSMO If You Are A VIDEO BLOGGER!" With that said, you should never ever ever never use the internal audio of any camera no matter how good the brand, or model. External Audio all day everyday any time all the time is the only way to go. The benefits are life changing. Nice vid tho. Keep up the good work.

I really wouldn't say so, I'm 15 and i have the time and the disposition to sync audio, it's a quick and easy process which registers great results in little time. Ste Rumbelow Red Giant PluralEyes software will resolve your audio drift. Only have the OSMO mic as a reference, external audio is always best. Not defending the OSMO, I have (had) one before it took a tumble and smashed in to three pieces. It's a pain in the arse. But using decent attachments for audio had added great value to my films, especially at the price point.

you are 100% right about their garbage customer service. I bought the osmo+ and i really wish i saw this video first. it was advertised as same day shipping, then i get sent to this third party whos going to deliver it, mind you it took over 12 hrs to process the payment but 0.05 seconds to take it out of my account. then when it came time to set up the delivery date for the following day it says AFTER i paid and checked to see if it was available in my area and stated it was, that its not available to ship dame day to my area...so i had to call, and then the guy tells me they dont ahve it and its gonna have to be sent from DJI an if i wanted a refund i'd have to contact dji....meanwhile my money is in limbo for a product i was told i could recieve thats not in stock... and after this review i dont even want to keep the product or open it i'd rather return it and buy it through best buy or amazon

+adrian Deficit ferguson Sorry to hear you've also had issues with their customer service Adrian. There ARE people out there who love their OSMO, so you could give it a shot. The only problem is that DJI won't accept it back unless it is unopened (thought you've ended up buying through a third party, which might make a difference). In the future, is definitely buy through a reputable retailer, so I can avoid any issues with returns. Amazon would have taken mine back without a second thought...

I agree as others do on the points you've made about the OSMO but to tell others to avoid this system is Ludacris. The system is a stabilized camera and gimbal all in one. I bought this camera after using Glide-cams and such. It did what I needed it to do. To be able to freely walk around theme parks and events without the need of a mechanical system like a glide am, which by the way if used on a windy day is ridiculous and the learning curve is incredible, I moved on to looking at other options. That's when I found the OSMO as With all systems you will find the cons in everyone of them. You simply find what works best for your needs. I've had my OSMO which I affectionately call Miss OSMO for a few months now and would not trade it for the world. It's a tool plain and simple and I don't know any craftsman or mechanic that depends on just having one do-it-all tool in their toolbox. Sound can be remedied, there are excellent editing software platforms out there. I use the Cyberlink Powerdirector14 Ultra and have had no problems editing and synching my audio. The OSMO Is a truly fun piece of equipment. I truly enjoy it. Normally I shoot without attaching my ipod. But I am a cameraman from way back and find it easy to frame my shots. At night I do use it, and for special occasions such as time lapses and the like. with audio I prefer a lapel mike and not all the crazy attachments that are available. So essentially it's the OSMO and a lapel mike and that's all. I find "less is better" in public places. You draw less attention and tire a lot less. The OSMO at a 45 degree angle, A small backpack will carry the carrying case a small lightweight tripod, extra batteries, filters, water a second camera the CX330 Sony and snacks. The Sony I use for Vlogging The OSMO for my stabilized shots. I would say "give it a shot" NOT to avoid this ground-breaking product because of a few belly aches. If you can find someone who owns one, try it first before you buy.Footage I shot with the OSMO: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2OxmnZojaibhJI

+MannyCAM really glad you've got on so well with yours. You're doing the right thing in using multiple cameras and multiple different audio setups. My point really was to avoid the camera as your sole device because of the plethora of problems it has. You are correct to say it is a great camera for stable footage. I simply could not get on with the attachment system, the time it takes to set it up each time for shots, and the audio. I used Final Cut Pro and it CAN be edited but it isn't simple. The interference shouldn't happen, nor should the sync drift which on occasion was frankly impossible to edit. Each to their own though. It'll definitely work for some people. Thanks for the comment. Ste.
@MannyCAM8 жыл бұрын
Ste Rumbelow , thanks for getting back. You are totally correct in the setup process. But after shooting for so many years with what the industry had to offer. This product blew my mind. A camera that reduces the amount of shake to nearly zero. Fluid, cinematic pans an tilts. Slider shots that would otherwise be impossible to achieve without carrying around a movie crew. You can imagine how exciting to be able to say when looking at Hollywood movies... Hey I can do that..lol. I had 3-chip Sony's that I paid 2grand for in the day. Now I have a camera that makes my shots look like they were dolly driven or done with a steadicam. I loved your observations and totally agree but with all it's imperfections. DJI has given the masses an incredible product.
@SteRumbelow8 жыл бұрын
+MannyCAM when you compare it the way you do, to a pro level camera that takes huge skill, knowledge and experience to get the best from, it makes the OSMO seem incredible. Again, for its stableness, it is. And I think it's people like you who will appreciate it more and accept its foibles because if it's benefits. For the average consumer though, I think many will be disappointed because the flaws outweigh the pros. Ultimately, I found I'd rather have something super quick, simple and easy to use in exchange for the stable footage - that was the only thing I really loved about the OSMO. Thanks again! Ste.

You ruined my joy and excitement to get an Osmo+, and I THANK YOU for it. Every issue you addressed is one that would drive me nuts, and I completely appreciate you sharing these pitfalls of the device. Good stuff, and new subscriber! Quick question: what is the device you have landed on now, and does it have a gimble or any sort of stabilization and zoom? And this was the plus you reviewed, correct? So they haven't released any improvements at this time?
@SteRumbelow8 жыл бұрын
+Nickel Press TV I reviewed the standard OSMO! A few people in the comments have the OSMO+ and it seems to be better. I can't say so for certain because I haven't used it myself. I'm using a Canon G7X MK.2 now. No stabilisation. I wanted something with great image quality, that's reliable, easy to use, and compact. There are a number of solutions out there for stabilising a mobile phone. Even the OSMO Mobile. For the times when stable footage is needed (unless you're a cinematographer), I'd recommend using one of those and an iPhone 7+ or similar. Not everything needs stabilising. Cheers, Ste.

If you were thinking of buying an OSMO and didn't because of this video you're making a big mistake. Probably the best camera you could use for vlogging if you know what you're doing. I've done loads of cycle vlogs and this camera is a God-send. I don't agree with it being slow to switch on. Usually you have this camera set to your liking and if you are familiar with it you can shoot without using the phone. But I do agree that when it comes to connecting via WIFI it is a total pain in the ass. But all my bike vlogs which have got quite a lot of views on Facebook were shot without using a phone attached. I can have it switched on and get a shot within a few seconds. I use a Rode video micro attached and people are always wondering how I get such good sound. Especially whilst cycling! I've used this camera for a year now and brought it everywhere with me and it's still going strong. It's terrible indoors but if you're doing any type of outdoor activity and want to film while on the move this camera is brilliant. Like a GoPro it's a 'sunny day' camera. When DJI bring out the handle for the OSMO X4 it'll be revolutionary. There's a 1" sensor in that cam. As for the x5s that thing is insane!

@SteRumbelow8 жыл бұрын
+Cupcake Works at Home Yeah I'm not sure gimbals and Vloggers go hand in hand. That said, there's always a time when ultra smooth footage would be preferable. However, for those occasions I'd say using the GoPro Karma handle would be better along with a Hero4 or 5. The. Ew DJI OSMO mobile and an iPhone would be pretty decent too I imagine. +Terence Riley Thanks for the comment, Terry. Managed to get my money back through the card company. They didn’t even hear from DJI... Love the DJI drones and I don’t think they suffer from tonnes of issues like the OSMO - after all, people just want stable video from them (something the OSMO did well). A happy ending after all. Great, because those things are not cheap/inexpensive. I found a new company in Germany LUUV with their product on Amazon.de the German website. I'm seriously thinking of picking up a Garmin Virb Ultra 30 4K 30fps GoPro clone with a mini usb mic in jack. They said they could PayPal a transaction and FedEx it over. No Far East product thank you. I'm partial to German ingenuity and quality and Rode told me a Jobe clamp with a cold shoe would work for the external mic. Take it easy and be well. Yeah, you have some point but it is still depends on how you will use it. if it's not fit on the way you are going to use it then don't buy it. if you are just a person who want to record your family travels, and simple occasions at home and you're the only one in the room that knows how to record from a pro dslr but you also shoot photo then Osmo is a thing for you, cause you can just give it to someone in the family and boom, you have a good quality and stable video. (which is based in my case). It's really up to your usage purposes that you will appreciate something.
@SteRumbelow8 жыл бұрын
+Mark Anthony Jamin correct. But filming even something simple, like family travels, means you'll have to watch them back (most of the time) with out of sync sound and random noises. Having spent hours and hours researching 'best blogging cameras' I've been achingly close to buying a DJI Osmo. Having seen your excellent, calm and frank review, I'm not now going to. Really appreciate this, thank you. Will instead look at the Canon you mention and the equivalent (?) Sony RX100 v5. My question is, even if those alternatives are amazing cameras, how do I get the smooth stability the Osmo made so attractive (I do race car driving and testing, and race driver coaching, so need sometimes to shoot from onboard and often to walk around a static car talking to camera about it). Any thoughts massively appreciated!
@SteRumbelow8 жыл бұрын
+Sam Hancock Hey Sam, I seem to remember you being in LM24 up until a few years ago, right? Jota? Big F1 and motorsport fan here! Glad you liked the video. The stability of the OSMO is really the only thing I liked about it and is of course it's main feature. There are options out there for GoPro cameras because of their light weight, but fewer for anything heavier. The price really starts to go up at that point. It really depends how much money you've got to burn Sam. In an ideal world, I'd take a GoPro with karma stabiliser for in-car shots (and the option to invest in other GoPro mounts down the line) and then keep a decent compact for everything else - Vlogging, tripod work, general shots. That's probably going to set you back about £900 though, maybe slightly more. The problem is that there really isn't a single solution to all of your problems. The OSMO tried to do them all, and (in my opinion) failed. One camera, like the G7X Mk.2 will do almost everything, but not the ultra stable shots. Still, if you'd consider an RX100 Mk.4, which is £800, you're almost at the cost of two solutions anyway...
@hancock_sam8 жыл бұрын
Ste Rumbelow ha! Good memory man! Yeah, I was with Jota for a long time and did a fair few LM24's. Am working more in classic car racing now, Goodwood etc, but have my eye on a LM return soon:) Thanks v much for the tips in your reply. Makes a lot of sense. I'm not ready to spend thousands just yet as this whole vlogging project is still just a fun experiment, but I can recoup investments in equipment if I can capture 'acceptable' broadcast quality vid and print quality stills. So a GoPro or similar (I actually have a replayXD which I love as a helmet cam), plus a canon or Sony sounds like a solid starter combo. Thanks for your advice and keep up the reviews, quite refreshing to hear down to earth, honest comments!

+Sam Hancock Definitely get yourself a good compact, you'll be surprised how well the footage turns out. And it'll work better for most stuff, than a GoPro will. Dear friend, you’re right… But… You can’t have all with a 650$ camera. The main reason somebody would buy the DJI OSMO is the stabilization. And the stabilization of this camera is amazing. If you need a set up speed there are many other options in the market, if you only need 4K there are many other options in the market, if you need zoom there are many other options in the market… STABILIZATION my friend… That’s the key word for this purchase… cheers!!!

+Giorgos Stavropoulos Hi Giorgos, Thanks very much for the comment. The stabilisation is of course the main draw to the OSMO. It's the first thing everyone sees. However, DJI do not promote this as its sole feature, or as its main one with a few tricks on the side. It is advertised as a portable device that can record audio and support an array of attachments (including supposedly professional level microphones) to make it more versatile. If it was just about the stabilisation, I would have no gripes. But I, and many others, didn't buy it just for the stabilisation. I would buy a GoPro Karma handle if I just wanted stabilisation. That's the difference; DJI tried to do too much with it. Thanks again, and have a good Christmas. Ste.

I had problems with a drone from DJI, it was sent for repair and I must add....(at no cost to me), replaced because the fault was to great for repair.SO customer care proved to be excellent.I have no regrets buying direct from DJI. I'm sorry you feel so disappointed.

Hi David, Really happy to hear you had a positive experience with DJI support. It's a shame they don't work like that for the majority of people! Everyone I speak to seems to have issues similar, or identical to mine. Their service was completely non-existent. Thanks, Ste.

Typically support is always handled through China. Customer service needs work, but their products are very good. Expectations are always different from person to person, but the products that DJI produce are great! No product from any vendor is perfect, but I do agree customer service can make or break a company.

+Enrico Lots of products DJI make are very good. In my opinion, the OSMO isn't one of them. At least, not the standard model.

I agree... I've been battling with the decision mobile or OSMO+ Thoughts?

So basically it's better for just B-role. B-Role that you only need with no audio. I could live with that? Thanks for the info!!!!!

That's "B-roll," not "B-role." There's A-roll and B-roll ... I'm not gonna explain it to you, but I suggest that you look it up, especially if you have a "production company" like you're a pro, LOL. Good luck!

Good to know because I want it for vlogs. Which camera are you using now? Is there a camera inbetween that you would recommend? Please advise.
@SteRumbelow7 жыл бұрын
+Waybridge LLC I'm using a Canon G7X Mk.II. Highly recommend it. Especially for vlogging!
@Waybridge7 жыл бұрын
Does it have a stabilizer to shoot outdoors? Or would you just use the Osmo+ for this?
@SteRumbelow7 жыл бұрын
+Waybridge LLC no stabiliser. I decided to take video quality and ease of use over stability. With a tripod it's easy to do static scenes and vlogging isn't really about the steady shots anyway. I made the wrong decision buying that kind of camera, regardless of its flaws.
