I think 2-boxing is no issue. Anything more than that does have negative reprecussions on the game. I used to 3 box on live with 3 mercs and it honestly just felt like it cheapened the experience. I've had far more fun moloing achievements.

That's a valid point, what type of content did you like doing? I like to try to box small raids or older content raids is normally why I run 12 or more.

@@vanman2099 I was just doing random content. Going to group zones that I remembered fondly, seeing new things that came out after I left. I wanted to work on Hero's Journey but it got really boring with a 3 box group.

I think the hatred for boxing comes from dealing with mage army farmers coming in and wrecking your camp, KSing your mob and training your group. I was never very fond of that. Also I think that there are people long to recapture the awe and mystery of their first year playing EQ. I’m one of these people. But I have come to the conclusion that there is no going back to that first foray into Befallen or getting one shotted in Nek forest by a DE guard and the terrifying CR that followed. Fast forward to now, I’m in a raid guild on a TLP and sometimes if it weren’t for boxing, the raid wouldn’t happen. Often the RL will say “anyone got a cleric they can box for PoT raid?” Or “we need another bard..”. I soon realized I should try it and have had a blast in zones and raids I had never been able to attain back in classic. I too don’t have 40 hrs a week to sink into a game, but do have the ability to pay for more than one account. It’s been fun and challenging learning this new skill set. I think you are spot on, play on a server that is fun for you and don’t worry about what others like or don’t like. 1999 is done and gone.

I started boxing in about 2000, as I got tired of either not finding a group or being in terrible groups. I started with one extra account on a separate PC (I don't think IS Boxer was even a thing back then) just so I could buff and heal my monk, and moved to a third shortly thereafter. Today, I play 6 and wouldn't continue playing if they eliminated multi-boxing like WoW did. That would kill the game for me, personally.

You addressed 2 key points there. First, boxing is a consequence of not being able to find groups, or not wanting to spend play time LFG, but since people are boxing instead of grouping, more people have to start boxing so they can play because everyone is boxing. I am not shitting on you for boxing, I do it too. The second point is that if they stopped boxing you would leave EQ. As would I. As would a bunch of other people who have put countless hours into working characters forward. Ending Boxing kill EQ. Boxing is its life support.

I think TLPs are a good chance to not box. You can already box anywhere else, why do it on the servers that will have high pop? I wish Daybreak would commit to IP restrictions like Project 1999 does. Instead we get the half-assed Truebox, which is like saying, "we don't want you to box, but we're only going to do the bare minimum to prevent it."

I've done a lot of coverage on multi-boxing and the thing that's bad about TrueBox is it's like an assault on poor people or people without space. So it does restrict boxing I guess in that sense but anyone can buy 12 mini pcs and set up boxing, I think the main reason they won't IP Ban it is because each account on a TLP is an active subscription, in that sense, it makes sense to allow boxing only on TLPs and restrict free to play servers instead. They may not have much choice at this point with a dying game, but as I said in another video, I would be all for the release of an IP restricted TLP single box server, I think the TLPs should actually be built to cater to specific audiences like that and there should be a TLP made for every different group of people.

If they ban boxing I would be done played off/on since 1999. Box 3 with 3 mercs up to level 60 it’s fun above that mobs hit ridiculously hard and xp is as slow as watching paint dry.

Great video. I love your videos man. Keep it up. I never boxed more than 2 at once until Mischief. Now I box 3-4 so still nothing crazy, but I use zero software so I don’t think I can handle much more than that. I don’t mind playing just 1-2 guys, but having the ability to do 3-4 so I can do something like Hearol or farm Frostcrypt for Infused raid mats makes the game much more enjoyable. And easy krono.

I went on and off with boxing - did a three-box group in the House of Thule era with an SK, Shaman, and Bard [w/ 2 rogues n a cleric as mercs]. It allowed me to effectively do whatever I felt like doing, especially with the pulling mechanics that SKs got. T4 group named were down in under 90 seconds with just me. Shaman was more or less only there to buff and slow a named and throw a pet on, that was about it. Nowadays on TLPs I like to try my hand at soloing a lot more, usually with an enchanter or necro charm soloing. Much more fun challenge, especially with the enchanter figuring out what did and didn't work. Got my dad back to playing again so now it's an enchanter/shaman duo. Fun times so far, still early on in Oakwynd's timeline but it's been fun.

As long as folks respect each other’s camps, I have no issue with boxers. I’ve started my box group using your suggestions, just without using any external macros or key duplicity. My accounts are “lifetime” (paid 300 bucks each, for three accounts, back in 2006), so I take absolutely no chances being banned. Wife was not happy back then with me spending almost a thousand dollars on a game, and the game was in flux back then with no promise it would stick around, but I think it paid off handsomely having not paid a penny for three gold accounts for 15 more years.

@@LiLBitsDK yes there are, camps are everywhere. Just because there isn’t enough staff to enforce them doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Back when they had hundreds of thousands of paying subs and could afford support staff, camp and kill stealing was absolutely enforced. They even had multiple volunteer quasi-GMs (forgot what they were called) that would zoom in and take care of griefers. They just have a skeleton crew now, with just us old timers still kicking about, so we try to be respectful of camps and of each other.

It would be nice if the macro system was way more advanced. I'd rather be able to focus on one character at a time vs boxing; but I far prefer using my alts vs mercs, but I don't want to use ISBoxer or whatever. I just want to control a raids worth of *my* characters, maybe using machine learning and a waaay more advanced macro system

They can only do certain rulesets if they did a Mischief rulset with boxing no one would play on any other server. granted people Box now there but if it was supported forget it

Make a cleric or shaman on the same account ur healers on walk him to the group then log back into ur healer. So if ur group dies u have a toon there u can just log into inv to group and rez no walk backs needed if ur in a safe spot

I made a third cleric for this purpose but it's not on the same account it's just another account for recovery, I usually don't play in safe spots though, I used to clear all of Field 2 in PoFire before respawn by roaming through the field so recovery was always brutal.

If my MQ boxes are less effective than actual players it isn't by much when it comes to supportive roles. They are not as effective at pulling and mechanics that require special activities (raid bosses requiring specific toons duck or run to certain area) but slowing, mezzing, snaring, healing, buffing are not falling short. I am not out there krono farming in TLPs or screwing other players out of content. I play on Test server and will stay out of other people's way and will surrender any mob, loot, area to anyone playing less toons than me. Multiboxers should always have a goal of not being a dickhole towards others.

I have only jumped into EQ through project 1999, and I am surprised that multi boxing is so prevalent on the official servers. It 100% ruins the whole POINT of the game. The defenders of multiboxing say that they can't find a group in this old game. The funny thing is, that isn't true. The official EQ community has an unhealthy addiction to boxing and it has soured the soul of the game.

Yeah, but if they were able to kick all boxes from game and have only 1 toon per person the game would die out. I think the best way to describe EQ is like it is on life support and boxing is the machine keeping it alive.

@dylanpaul7371 Yes. It would force people to need to group, or everyone would play necros. As far as sustainability goes for EQ as a whole, it would be a bad idea. Boxing is EQs life blood. I also can't think of any way for EQ to force truebox. 1 PC = 1 Character doesn't stop multiboxing. Limiting 1 character per Network IP wouldn't stop multiboxing because of VPNs and would screw over families that play together at home. It isn't that true boxing wouldn't work, it is that it isn't enforceable, it isn't resourceful and it isn't heavily supported enough go be implemented. I get wanting EQ to go back to its original feel and maybe cutback on all these douchebags locking down zones, or raid mobs, but it just won't happen.

About loot on tlps. Say i am a solo player, grouping with a boxing player. He has 2 or three characters , i have one. Miscellaneous loot drops, such as gems, or quest items ( little ones most players don't do anyways) or items not for our characters. I find it unfair that he gets to roll need on all his toons.( Everybody sets the advl on need ) . He is going to grab most of the loot. Now agreed, he is putting a bit more into the group than i since he has two or three characters, but we are just two people in real life playing , so it should be a 50/50 deal on loot. Do you agree ?

I typically do that if it's me but only if I need them or they are useful to the group, if I know them sometimes I'll do it too, it's not so much about the work being put in, to me it's about whether or not I can do it without them. So like say I got a 3 box going but no one to pull and you come in and pull, that's probably a 50/50 or maybe it's a healer or a tank, but if it's just some extra damage or something that I could do without, that's where I could see someone leaning toward the 75/25 or what not on loot chances. I think it comes down to the scenario and the people you play with more so than anything else.

@@vanman2099 When i mained a palatank on mischief , i got frustrated my one time boxing partner won a two handed sword in guk from a rare, he said he needed for a lower alt . He was selling it in EC tunnel ten minutes after we departed... When i mained a wizard, i didn't ask for anything except experience. i know i am just bonus dps. And tbh, most boxers are kind and experienced players whom i can learn from. I usually am happy to group with them.

I box 6 myself on Mischief. I love boxing for the simple reason that I don't want to waste time when I play. I want to log on and do something I find fun. I play at a fast pace and I find most pugs can't keep up. Its just easier for me to control the entire pace. I will only scale back my boxing when there are mercs. I can't wait to get rid of the healing responsibility. If the new server has free trade I am considering running 18 to 24 so I can farm the easy raids for a challenge (don't care about making a third world wage farming krono, I make plenty in my day job).

@@vanman2099 I would think in your situation it would depend on if there are small man raids you can farm for loot? I don't think there is any but I could be wrong. Most of the raids here on out have mechancis that would be a pain to box I would imagine.
