I did this same thing recently, a friend owns a Line 6 Uber Metal distortion pedal (has a bad rep btw) and said that he feels really happy with the tone. No doubt, plugging it and playing on an amp, the pedal has its own charm. But come recording on the DAW, showed him both raw guitar tracks (+Amp Sim) and the same riff recorded directly with his Uber Metal pedal. I had both tracks plugged in to a Libra Cab Sim. My friend did not realize this at first but I eventually have him listen several times and have him realize for himself that the raw guitar tracks with Cab Sim sounds a lot cleaner and more professional. And yeah, the wave forms are SO MUCH EASIER to work with when you can see the transients clearly.

Many times, guitar tones may sound great on their own, but in the context of the full, finished mix, a better tone suits the song. It can be a hard pitch, especially if a guitarist has spent a lot of time crafting their sound, but you should do what’s best for the song. Sometimes that takes a side by side comparison to hear the difference and make a decision. Glad you had a good experience with it! -Justin

Justin. Sound advice (yeah I went there) but very useful. Now I just to a) find a good guitar 🎸 player and b) convince them direct is best! 😅Keep these videos coming. All super useful stuff

I always appreciate a good pun! If you haven’t revamped before, it’s a fun process that puts you in a different mindset for crafting the perfect tone. Give it a try sometime!

Who the hell is editing guitar tracks this much? So much quicker to play the part again correctly.

Haha, very true! I always advocate for getting the performance right at the source, but sometimes it's out of your control if you aren't the tracking engineer. I've had quite a few projects sent in for mixing where one guitar unintentionally stops way short at the ending ring out. Stretching a DI track has always provided cleaner results than stretching an amp track. Oftentimes, I'll record the final chord myself and blend it with theirs. There's a time and place for everything! Thanks for watching!
